Chapter Fifteen
"Holy Moly, Lena! Is that Aiden Crooks?" Renee exclaimed as I entered the room.
I nodded, then swirled back to Aiden, who was in his car.
He had a smirk on his face, which meant he had been listening to our conversations.
"I wonder how I would get used to his supernatural abilities," I murmured to myself.
I had read a bit about the history of the Crooks family from the books I had borrowed from his library. Though it was still ambiguous, I understood some of the things about werewolves while reading the book.
Not only werewolves but other supernatural beings I never thought existed.
Aiden twisted in his seat, and he latched his gaze on mine. He grinned, hoisting his left brow in a way I now find cute.
I shifted from one foot to the other, then tucked a stray strand of my white hair beneath my ear.
His smile broadened when he noticed how flustered I was at his scrutiny.
Breaking eye contact with him, I shut the door completely to his face before facing Renee, who, nevertheless, had an awed look on her face.
"Tell me that isn't Aiden in our driveway!" She repeated squealing.
"He is," I mumbled.
Renee's eyes widened as she hyperventilated. Her hands went to fan her red face, and she gasped for breath.
After a few seconds, she went completely still, staring at nothing in particular.
"Geez, Renee. He's a human."
I stated.
But I knew it was futile explaining to her in the state she was in.
Tugging her to the sofa, I made her sit on it, then slapped her on the face. Not hard enough to mark her cheeks but hard enough for it to sting and for her to snap out of her daze.
Renee blinked her eyes rapidly as she came back to reality.
"I'm sorry. You know how I feel whenever I see hot guys." She giggled.
"I know," I said, giggling along with her.
"You are so lucky, b*tch." Her gaze travelled from my head to toe as she took in what I was on. She tilted her head while observing me.
"Why do you say so?" I shook my head, glancing back to the window.
Aiden, surprisingly, was still there.
"Having a billionaire running after you, isn't that lucky enough for you?"
"I don't know the definition of lucky you are talking about. Also, quit staring at me that way. I only borrowed his shirt." I pointed it out while undoing the top button.
"Well, for the record, I didn't mention anything about the cloth. However, I feel there is something you want me to know." She wiggled her brows.
"Eww, not what you are thinking. There is nothing. I-I mean, nothing like that happened." I sputtered, trying to hide my red cheeks.
"Well, I didn't say you did anything, Lena. Also, you should remember I know when you are lying and trying to digress." She said.
Indeed, Renee could tell when people were lying, and I wasn't an exception to her gift.
Yet, there was no way I would admit that I nearly let Aiden have his way with me because of my traitorous body and emotions.
“Well?” Her green eyes twinkled as she waited.
I rolled my eyes at how excited she was becoming. "There won't be..."
My phone vibrated in my hand to signal an incoming call. I swiped up to unlock it, and an unknown number flashed on the screen.
My brows creased as I stared at my phone.
As soon as I glued the phone to my ear, Aiden's voice permeated my brain.
My heart thumped, and my hands as well became sweaty.
I had never felt this way before until I met him.
He brought out all kinds of various emotions in me, and it was aggravating he could do that with just his voice and eyes.
"Hey, you can enjoy your time with your friend. I'll be back tomorrow."
He hung up before I could say anything.
Nevertheless, despite how rude he seemed, I was happy he gave me a chance to be on my own.
Some while later, Renee and I went to the local store in town to get some groceries and clothing because they were on sale.
"What do you think about this?" Renee winked while swinging a red lacy thong in the air.
"What about it?" I asked, though I knew what she meant.
"To finish the work you and Boytoy started." She giggled.
I swatted the thong away from her hand. "Boytoy?"
I shook my head at her new name for Aiden.
It was Renee's thing to nickname any guy she finds hot and sexy as sin like she often says.
"Yup, and I'm thinking of more because he deserves it. Aiden is a freaking walking s*x god!"
"Language!" I cautioned while browsing the place we were in to see if any kid was in sight.
"Don't be a spoilsport, Lena. I'm expecting little nieces and nephews from you very soon." She said, giggling.
"That's never going to happen. Even if it'll, perhaps, in the nearest future and not between Me and Aiden."
Even as I said those, I knew it wasn't true. Earlier today, I would have let him have his way if he hadn't stopped.
"Yeah, keep telling yourself that." Renee rolled her eyes.
"Whatever," I mumbled, glaring at her.
"Hello, ladies!"
Renee and I swirled to see a really hot guy smirking at us at the entrance of the store.
His shaggy hair was dark and all over the place. The scruffy hair on his chin added to his sexiness, and his eyes were a beautiful leafy green.
He exuded a mysterious air about him, which made me shiver. The piercing on his bottom lip and eyebrow made it a bit worse as the alarm in my head went off, announcing he was in trouble.
Not everyone with piercings or tattoos meant bad. But this was different.
He swaggered towards us, and I moved back with each step he took.
He was cute, but I didn't like him.
Renee seems to think otherwise as she fluffs her hair and smelt her breath.
A smile brightened up her face as she walked to meet him halfway.
"Kyle." I heard him say as he extended his hands to her.
"Hello, I'm Renee." She giggled, twisting a lock of her red hair.
"Hi, Renee, and what is the name of your beautiful friend?" Kyle winked.
"Ele..."
I interrupted her.
"I'm here, you know. You can ask me whatever and not go to a third party to hear it!" I snapped.
"Feisty much? I like that." Kyle chuckled.
"I'm sorry, darling. That's so rude of me. What's your beautiful name?" He widened his smile a bit.
I noticed his well-formed teeth and how white it was.
"Why would you want to know my name?" I grunted.
"Why not?"
That almost came out as a growl until he flashed an overly sweet smile my way again.
"Why not? He repeated. "We could be friends."
"I'm not interested." I spat out, then tugged Renee's hand.
"Hey!" Renee exclaimed as soon as we got to another portion of the store.
I glanced back and let out a sigh of relief when Kyle wasn't there.
"What do you do that for? You seem rude all of a sudden, you know." She scowled.
"I'm not rude. I don't like him." I pointed out.
"I think I like him." She said.
"Well, you like every guy!"
Renee frowned at my outburst.
I didn't stop, though. "I have nothing against that, but I don't wanna see him around tonight in the house. I don't like his presence."
"Geez, Lena. Cut me some slacks. I know I get aroused a lot." She grinned, then continued, "I'm human after all."
"But, I won't invite him over. I'm cautioning myself from guys now. They seem to take me for granted." She stated seriously.
"Okay, because I don't like the way he's leering at me especially."
Renee rolled her eyes before tugging me to a new section as we went about with our shopping.
When the sun began to set, we decided to leave the store. As soon as we stepped out, Kyle's irritating face came into view.
"Hey, Ladies, how about I give you a lift?"
I swirled and then glared at Renee, who was ready to leap at the offer.
"We are going nowhere with you!"
"Geez, chillax." He held out his hand, then chuckled.
"Lena, he's just trying to help us," Renee said.
"Don't fucking say my name." I gritted my teeth before glancing back to Kyle, who was smirking.
Great, the freak knew my name because of Renee's inability to shut her big mouth.
"I mean no harm, and I wouldn't want beautiful ladies like you to use the public bus."
His eyes stayed on mine throughout the conversation.
However, I didn't glance away even as he was freaking me out.
After much deliberation, I agreed to his offer, and Renee and I went with him.
The ride home wasn't a quiet one like I wanted it to be.
Rather, Kyle and Renee were busy chit-chatting about random and silly things.
It got to a point I began to doze off, only to be awakened by Renee's voice.
"Thank you for the ride." She winked at him.
"Hey, that's rude!" Renee exclaimed as I began to walk towards the porch.
I got into the living room, then shifted the curtain to see Renee locking lips with Kyle.
"So much for not wanting to get together with anyone," I mumbled, with an eye roll.
Walking to the door, I unlocked it and then stuck out my head. "Don't forget to bolt the door."
"Stop embarrassing me, Lena," Renee yelled back.
"Whatever!" I shouted.
Kyles' eyes were on me the whole time. There was something weird about the way he kept staring at me, but I didn't know what it was.
Sighing, I stepped to my room and plopped on my bed.
Spreading my hands out, I hummed to the sound of the music drifting in from the other compartment. I stayed in the position I was in for a while before I dozed off.
******************************************
A groan escaped my lips as a soft rap sounded on the door.
"Who's there?"
I knew the person outside wouldn't hear me because I was talking to the pillow rather than to myself.
The knock sounded yet again, and before I could lift myself off the bed, the door went ajar.
The person must have been too impatient that he broke the door, our freaking door!
Furious, I leapt out of bed to confront the intruder. Only to wish I hadn't.
Three men with bloodshot eyes were in the living room doing only God knew what.
Immediately I stepped in, they twisted to stare at me.
Their faces contorted in a scowl, and each let out a low growl.
Suddenly, veins popped out of their heads and necks; one had his fangs retracted and swished towards me. He grabbed my neck and clutched me to him.
I jerked, struggling to release his grip on me, but he didn't let go.
I shut my eyes as his cool hands brushed my hair away from my neck, and he bent his head.
I trembled as I felt his cool breath on my neck before he was shoved off me.
I let out a sigh of relief only to let out another shriek.
"Drew!" Kyle, who was the one that had saved me, growled, trying to restrain the red hair that had gripped me earlier.
Eventually, Kyle snapped his neck, and I let out a strangled shriek.
"Elena, what's going on?" Renee's groggy voice sounded.
I heard her trudging to where we were.
I swirled and was about to whisper to her not to come any further, but it was too late.
Her eyes took in what was going on, and one of the men made the mistake of shifting into a werewolf in front of her.
She gasped before slumping to the floor.
I moved to help her; however, Kyle gripped my hands and tried to tug me towards the entrance, but I did not yield.
He raised his left hand, and he smacked me with the back of his palm.
My ears tingled, and I felt the part of my face the blow had landed on broken.
Blood drew from my lips because I had bitten it due to the force of the blow.
I blinked away the tears threatening to spill out, trying to make meaning out of whatever was happening.
Then, it dawned on me what Aiden had been trying to explain.
'They are after me.'
'They are here to kill me.'
But why?
I had been right about Kyle being weird, and I wished there was something I could have done to prevent him from knowing where I reside.
But he knew already, and here he was.
My eyes roamed around the room frantically as I thought of a way out. Yet, whatever escape route on my mind would be futile since I wouldn't be able to handle three supernatural beings.
An idea came to my head, and I took action before thinking about it. I shoved my right leg into Kyle's groin, catching him unaware.
He yelped, letting go of my hand.
I made use of the opportunity as I darted into my room, bolted the door, and then snatched my phone from the nightstand.
"Please pick, please pick up." I chanted, as my hand trembled while gripping it.
I heard shuffling from the other side, followed by several bangs on my door. My heart thudded with each.
"Hey, what's up?" Aiden's relaxed voice penetrated my brain, and I let out a sigh of relief.
"Please help!"
"What's wrong?" He mumbled.
"They are here, Aiden!"
"Freaking B*tch!" Kyle yelled as he booted the door.
Kyle gripped my hair, leading me across the room. I winced in pain as he flung me on the couch.
"You'll f*king pay for what you did!"
He slammed his hand on my face yet again. The tears I had been trying to keep at bay slipped down from my cheeks.
Kyle hoisted me, then gripped my neck.
My eyes bulged as I struggled against him. This was far worse than how Aiden had gripped me.
Aiden had gripped my neck because he was angry, and he didn't have the intention of killing me.
"We were told to bring her alive." A boy with light brown curly hair and blue eyes said.
He was slightly younger than the rest. Perhaps he would be the same age as me, or a year difference between us.
Kyle stopped as he glanced at him. He shrugged, then walked across the room.
"Damn, J.J.!" Kyle grunted, releasing his grip.
I wheeze, before taking in two big gulps of air.
Aiden was right, after all. I shouldn't have doubted him.
"Elena!" Aiden's voice resounded as he yelled from outside.
Aiden was here!
He came to me.
My heart leapt with happiness as he yelled out my name again.
"In here, Aiden!" I shouted.
"Shut the F up bitch. So he came in? The Alpha Aiden." Kyle moved to the window, then stepped back as he tutted. "I'm not surprised, though; he's always acted this way towards any girl."
Any girl?
I didn't dwell on whatever he had said; all I wanted was to get the heck out of the room, away from them.
"Cora, they are here!" A girl who was barely younger than I appeared from the Kitchen. She licked her cherry-coloured lips and held up a knife with her.
Her hazel eyes twinkled as she stepped towards me.
She was beautiful despite having her brunette hair done in a messy bun. She beamed, showing the brace in her teeth.
"Who are we killing?" She asked, grinning.
"I need you to recite the spell for the doorway sealing thingy, and we are not killing her," Kyle said, pointing at me.
Cora seemed like she wanted to argue until Kyle added, "J.J.'s order."
The name almost made me hurl, but I had to hold myself together.
I looked to where Renee was sprawled and wondered if she was breathing at all.
I attempted to go check up on her, but Cora stopped me.
"Move, and you'll see your gut on the floor." She growled.
I stayed in the position I was in, counted to ten as well as prayed silently for Aiden to move in before my gut would spilt as Cora had threatened.
