Falling For Her Billionaire Baby Daddy

Chapter 12

Rachel was as excited as Zoe this morning as they tinkered about in the kitchen, making a huge breakfast in preparation for Rob and Taylor's 5-day visit to Atlanta.

The last time they'd come around was three months ago, and now they were coming to take part in Zoe's first birthday party which was a few days away. Her brother and his ever-supportive boyfriend have taken it upon themselves to organize the party for their adorable niece.

Her mother had visited them twice since Zoe was born and thereafter, they have continued to keep in touch via daily phone calls and video calls. Rachel was thankful for her family's support throughout her journey into motherhood. Also, her extended family had been so good to her, taking her in on short notice and making sure she was ok all through the pregnancy, to the birth of her child, and have continued to show up for her whenever she needed them. It had been initially difficult for her to get back to her content creation work, but her aunt had encouraged her to get back to it because it would keep her busy and take her mind off things. She'd taken that advice and it had paid off. Once she announced her pregnancy on her YouTube channel, a few brands reached out to her for partnership opportunities. It automatically changed her content creation niche.

She started making videos about pregnancy, prenatal vitamins, workout aids for expecting moms, and skin care products for pregnancy-induced skin problems.

Her earnings had dramatically increased by the time Zoe was born. She made enough money to rent a place of her own and move out of her aunt's house.

Recently, she'd been doing more of baby product reviews on her channel, thanks to brands that she was now partnering with. Zoe has also had a few baby modeling jobs that came up as a result of her getting featured on the channel. Rachel finally felt like she now had her feet solidly planted on the ground after months of a chaotic existence. It was a satisfying feeling and she was very optimistic about the future.

The doorbell rang and Rachel glanced at the wall clock in the kitchen. The time was a quarter past 9 a.m. and way too early for Rob and Taylor to have arrived. She wasn't expecting anyone this morning, so who could that be? "Bell!" Zoe yelled excitedly from her spot on the highchair where she was nibbling on a banana.

"Yes, darling, that's right. It's the doorbell," said Rachel. "I better go see who it is."

She dropped the whisk in her hand beside the bowl of eggs and wiped her hands on her apron before making her way to the front door. When she opened the door, her jaw dropped as soon her eyes landed on her unexpected visitor. "Hi, Rachel," said Derek with a stiff smile.

He extended the bouquet of roses in his hand toward her. "These are for you," he said and cleared his throat self-consciously.

"What are you doing here?" Rachel asked in surprise. "How did you find me?"

Derek shrugged. "I had help," he said. "May I come in?"

"No, you may not!"

"Rachel - "

"No! Look, you need to leave now. I don't know why you came here, but you are not welcome and I don't want to see you again. Ever!"

"Mommy!" Zoe called out to her from the kitchen.

"I'm coming, baby," she responded. To Derek, "Please, go away. You shouldn't be here."

"Rachel, I know I owe you an apology and I would like to - "

"Save it," she cut him off. "I don't need your apology and I don't need you butting into my life out of nowhere and expecting me to welcome you with open arms." "Rachel, please," he pleaded soulfully.

"You have got some nerve," she said bitterly and shut the door in his face.

*******

"Are you serious?" Rob asked her with huge eyes. "He actually came here?"

"Yeah, but I didn't let him in," said Rachel. "And he showed up with a bunch of flowers and tried to apologize, but I wouldn't let him."

"Wow," breathed Rob. "That guy has got some nerve."

"That's exactly what I said. Who does he think he is?"

"So, what are you going to do now?"

Rachel shrugged. "Nothing. What am I supposed to do?"

"I don't know, but now that he knows about Zoe, don't you think that's probably why he showed up?"

"I don't care why he showed up. I don't want to have anything to do with him," said Rachel, stubbornly.

"He can't just pop up from nowhere and expect to be recognized as my child's father when he already rejected both me and my baby before. We don't need him." They were both silent as they watched Taylor running around with Zoe in the backyard. It was late afternoon and the sun was barely visible through the clouds.

"It might rain tonight," said Rachel absently, trying to change the subject.

"You know, you never told me who the guy is," said Rob, pensively.

"What guy?"

"Zoe's father."

Rachel sighed. "His identity is not important."

"That's what you've been saying this whole time. Why though? Is he a homeless guy? A criminal? What?"

"He's none of that," said Rachel, quietly.

"He is quite the opposite. He's an affluent guy who is used to having his way. He is the type of guy that expects everyone to bow to his wishes and simply do what he says." "You sound like you don't like him very much. How did you two end up together then?"

She shrugged. "I would like to blame the alcohol I drank during my birthday party, but the truth is, I was simply in the mood for an adventure that night. I was happy and having a good time, and I bumped into him. He was good-looking, friendly and you know, I was like, why not?

"Look, our time together wasn't supposed to lead to anything serious, but I forgot to get a morning-after pill and the result is Zoe. But then I went back to this guy to tell him I was pregnant and he drove me out of his office as if I was some kind of pest. He humiliated me, Rob.

"Now he's here begging for forgiveness and expecting me to just forget about how he treated me and welcome him back. I'm not going to do that. He needs to leave me and my daughter alone."

Rob sighed. "That's so messed up... but I'm here now and if he shows up again, he will have to answer to me."

Rachel smiled lovingly at her brother. "Thank you, Rob. You are a gem, but I don't want you to get mixed up in my drama. I'll handle Derek by myself."

"So, his name is Derek. Last name?"

"Never mind."

"Derek Never-mind. Ok, got it."

Rachel laughed and punched Rob playfully. "You're silly."

"You do know that I'm going to find out who he is eventually, don't you?"

"Yes, I know."

"So, why don't you just tell me?"

"Mommy, food," said Zoe as she walked toward her mom with outstretched arms. "Mommy, food."

"Of course, honey," Rachel cooed to Zoe as she scooped her daughter into her arms. "Mommy's gonna get you some food right away. What do you want? Spaghetti? Mashed potatoes? A sandwich?" "This conversation isn't over," Rob called after her as she went into the kitchen with Zoe. "I will get to the bottom of this."

"Good luck with that," she said with a smug look before shutting the back door.
