Chapter 175 

In a timid voice, Edith stammered, “I’ll get a cab back by myself. Are you going to visit Miss Huffam?” Carlos‘ harsh tone frightened her. 

Carlos angrily asked, “Did you expect me to be with Natalie Huffam? Are you sure?” 

This question stumped her. 

If Carlos and Natalie were together, what would that make her? 

Nothing. In the end, she would be in a dilemma! 

But it was not up to her. It was up to Carlos. Her only choice was to accept it. 

She took a deep breath and said, “I know you’re worried about her. Love takes time, and so does forgetting. Honestly, if it were not for Johann’s excessive behavior, I might still have feelings for him. So I understand you. If you want to find Natalie, I won’t blame you. If you don’t want to be with me, just say so. I won’t blackmail you. You can trust me…” 

The speech was her final act of courage. 

Edith felt proud of herself for not crying and speaking so logically. 

But Carlos only felt pity for her. 

What a silly girl! Why did she always place others before herself? 

Carlos raised his hand and tapped her heart with his forefinger. He asked, “Why are you saying things against your will? Is thi you really want me to be with Natalie? Tell me, if it does not hurt you, I’ll believe you.”

For once, Edith’s voice had left her. 

It did hurt her, but Edith pushed herself to be tolerant. She had high self–esteem! 

She could not cry and held his thigh tightly to prevent him from leaving! 

Pride would not allow her to do so. 

Although she was insignificant, she had self–esteem, pride, and principles. 

She breathed deeply and said, “Don’t bother with me! If you don’t go now, maybe Miss Huffam will leave, and you won’t be able to see her” 

“I don’t care about her. My only concern is for you!” 

Carlos spoke affectionately. 

These words shocked her and made her surprised and happy. 

She was stunned. “Me? What’s wrong with me?” 

“Just the thought of Edward Jones‘ pushing, your screaming, makes me feel like it was a nightmare. I feel nothing but pity and guilt for Natalie. Something happened five years ago. I could not save her. In the end, it was Edward who helped her. The cost is five years. Now those five years are two months away from expiring. 

“Edward Jones, the elder brother of Aaron Gavlin, outshines him at a young age but is also violent and cruel. Both Edward and I have feelings for Natalie, but she is my fiancée. Unfortunately, an accident occurred on our engagement day, and I couldn’t save Natalie, leaving me helpless as Edward took her away. 

“It’s worse than death if a man can’t protect his wife. How incompetent!” 

Carlos was like an injured lion. His words added insult to injury. 

She started to imagine that Carlos licked his wounds alone. 

“Is that why you can’t bear her suffering?” she asked cautiously. 

“Yes.” 

“But you also can’t bear to see me get hurt!” 

Carlos‘ action still touched Edith. When Natalie was in danger, he rushed forward and only grabbed Edward’s wrist. When he heard her scream, he immediately punched him hard 

This was the first time that a man had fought for her! 

Carlos realized that Natalie was the past and Edith was the future. 

Edith found the point happily. 

“Carlos, why did you give Miss Huffam up?” 

“Because she fell in love with Edward a long time ago,” Carlos said in a hoarse voice.

Hearing this, Edith was a little shocked. 

Had Natalie actually fallen for Edward?

Natalie was unconscious from shock. 

She had felt weak ever since that miscarriage. 

She was pregnant. But she could not keep the child because of the severe injuries she suffered five years ago.. 

This caused her to miscarry. So Edward became even more violent. 

Although Edward treated her well, he would offend his subordinates for no reason. After returning to Caurtine, he was like a sensitive hedgehog, showing its sharp spikes to anyone. 

As long as she met Carlos, Edward would use her as a weapon to take revenge. 

Every time Edward hurt her, he did not know how to explain it. 

He could not control his anger like a fierce beast that hurt everyone including himself. 

Edward stayed close to the bed and held her little hand tightly, unwilling to let go. 

The medical staff came in to check the situation. 

He shouted, “If anything happens to her, I’ll destroy the whole hospital and bury all of you with her.” 

So it took a lot of courage for doctors to visit each time. 

He was like a merciless tyrant. 

He held onto Natalie’s hand tightly, as if everyone who came could take her away. 

He was so vigilant and sensitive. 

Aaron came over to see Natalie. He knocked on the door. 

Edward stared at him coldly. 

He said coldly, “Scram!” 

Hearing this, Aaron pursed his lips. 

He was familiar with Edward’s personality, like that of a sensitive lion. They used to be close brothers, but since Edward fell in love with Natalie, he has become different. Edward also treated Aaron poorly because Aaron was close to Carlos. 

He said, “Big Brother. If you continue your behavior, it will only hurt Natalie. I wouldn’t get involved in your fight with Carlos, but I hope you stop using Natalie as a weapon.” 

When Edward heard this, he said unkindly, “Are you going to teach me how to treat my wife? This is Natalie’s ward. I don’t want to hit anyone, so get out of here, or I’ll teach you a lesson in the future!” 

Edward’s words angered Aaron. 

His big brother was so inhumane. He considered other people’s suggestions as poison to take Natalie away from him. 

“Big brother, you’ll kill Natalie if you go on like this. Haven’t you tortured her enough?”
