“It’s on your head. You disappeared for so long with no news. I even thought it was a fortunate thing that I didn’t agree to marry you. If you died outside, wouldn’t I have to live as a widow?” 

Hearing this, Carlos didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. 

She really overthought these things. 

“Don’t worry. I won’t let you be a widow. Edith, do you miss me? I’ll feel despondent If you say no.” 

Hearing this, Edith blushed and said grumpily, “No! I’ll go to ask Doctor Chilton. Now lie down obediently, please.” 

Feeling very guilty, Edith quickly ran out. 

As Carlos watched her petite figure, he could not help but smile. 

He thought, “It feels so good to have a little girl to talk to me though I am sick.” 

Holding her hand, he felt that all severe pain could be relieved. 

Edith had been staying with Carlos. However, how Meggie Huffam discovered that Carlos had returned and was sick was unknown. Meggie insisted on visiting Carlos, and no one could stop her. 

Meggie arrived, and she looked displeased when she saw Edith. 

“Why are you here?” 

“Uncle Carlos asked me to come here.” 

Edith responded lightly. Now she understood that the so–called Sugar Pea was just Meggie’s disguise. 

Meggie made her misunderstand Carlos and quarrel with him for a long time. Edith still remembered it clearly. 

Meggie also loved Carlos but couldn’t get him, so she intentionally created trouble. 

Edith couldn’t help but think, “Alas, Carlos has too many admirers.” 

Besides Natalie and Meggie, many young ladies of note were interested in Carlos, an eligible bachelor, so she suddenly felt 

stressed! 

If Carlos was decisive, she would not have been so distressed. 

Edith feared that she would become the common enemy of women, and Uncle Carlos also abandoned her.

Meggie stomped her feet angrily and went to Carlos‘ bedroom. 

“Carlos.” 

Her voice instantly became gentle and delicate. 

Hearing this, Carlos frowned slightly and looked at her indifferently. “Why are you here?”

“You’re sick. I had to come to see you. Otherwise, Mrs. Lawson would blame me! Are you feeling unwell anywhere? Do you need my help?” 

“Nope. I’m fine. You can go back now,” Carlos said. 

Hearing this, Meggie felt a little upset. 

Why was Edith allowed to stay here and use the kitchen as she pleased while Meggie was just asked to leave? Was she not as important as some outsider? 

“Carlos, don’t you think you’re too close to Edith? Edith is Simon’s wife, your nephew’s wife. Aren’t you afraid of the rumors outside? I know my sister has dealt you a heavy blow, but you can’t go against your morals! If this gets out, it will damage your reputation!” 

“You’ve investigated this a great deal. You even know that she is Simon’s wife.” 

Carlos did not pay attention to her long conversation at all. He only keenly noticed a few words, and he said that a little coldly. 

Meggie trembled slightly when she heard this, and her eyes flickered. 

She tried her best to explain, “I am also a member of the Lawson family. Is it strange for me to know about this? Carlos, please don’t do such a stupid thing. If Mrs. Lawson learns about it, things might become troublesome.” 

“That’s my business. I’ll deal with it. Just forget it,” he said coolly. “I need to rest. You can leave later.” 

Her words made Meggie speechless. 

Meggie bit her lip hard. Though she was frustrated, she could do nothing. 

In the end, she could only turn around and leave unwillingly. 

At the same time, Edith was stuffing cooked noodles into her mouth. 

Carlos was sick and didn’t feel hungry, but Edith had been starving for a whole day. 

When she was eating, Meggie came over. 

Meggie raised her head high arrogantly. 

“Judging from the crummy food you eat, you’re obviously a simpleton. Since you’ve come to Carlos‘ place, put away your humble look. There are top chefs here and the freshest ingredients to prepare food. You can get it no matter what you want to eat. Why must you eat this cheap food?” 

Hearing this, Edith couldn’t help raising her eyebrows slightly and asking innocently, “Can I really eat anything? I’ve never eaten anything high–class before.” 

When Meggie heard this, she almost laughed out loud. 

Meggie thought, “This country bumpkin still fancies marrying into the purple. 

Has she had any etiquette training? 

Does she know how to sample wine and arrange flowers? 

How many languages is she proficient in?” 

Then Meggie said, “Of course. Tell me, and I’ll ask the kitchen to prepare them for you.” 

“I want to have Ambrosia and the Apples of the Hesperides that can make me young forever, please,” Edith said with a smile as she watched Meggie’s face turn from flushed to livid. 

Meggie angrily stamped her feet and snarled, “Are you kidding me? How dare you ask for these things? Do these things exist in the world?” 

Edith pretended to be surprised and asked, “Yes, it’s very common. Haven’t you tried them before?” 

Meggie said, “They are things that can only be seen in mythology. Are you fooling me?”

“What if they really exist in the world?” 

“If… if you’re right, I’ll change my name!” 

Meggie was so angry that she spoke without thinking about the consequences. 

It was because she firmly believed that Edith wouldn’t be able to find the two items. They couldn’t exist in real life. 

Then Meggie saw that Edith picked up her phone slowly and started searching on Google. Then, Edith took two screenshots 

and showed them to her. 

One picture showed a bottle of drink with the word “Ambrosia” clearly written on it, and the other showed a fruit named “The Apples of the Hesperides.” 

Meggie stared at the two pictures with her eyes wide open. She felt that she had been fooled completely. 

Edith feigned innocence and said, “You’re something else. You’ve never even had “Ambrosia” before. It used to be 5 cents a bottle, but now one bottle costs a dollar. If I return next time, I’ll bring you a bottle to try…” 

When Meggie heard this, she became even angrier and slammed Edith’s phone on the table. Edith felt very distressed about her broken phone. 

Edith hurriedly held it and said angrily, “What are you doing? Why did you throw my phone?”
