Chapter 149 

She returned to the car, and Carlos drove her home. 

Neither spoke the entire way back, the whistling wind blowing against the car window the only sound to be heard. 

The atmosphere was growing oppressive. 

She enjoyed attentively to the scenery outside the window. Suddenly, his voice broke the silence. 

“Tell me what your plans for the future are.” 

“Future plans?” 

She lowered her eyes and answered him in a low voice. 

“Of course, I will also tell you my whereabouts so you won’t worry about me. I don’t like you being too close to other men, including your ex–fiance and Daniel!” 

“What about you?” She raised her eyebrows and asked. 

He grabbed her hand and tightened his grip. “You can rest assured about me.” 

These words echoed in her mind. 

She thought, “You said… 

I can rest assured. 

Those words are enough for now.” 

“Yes,” she replied, brimming with warmth in her heart. 

Edith stayed at her home for the night. Edith specially prepared dinner for him to express her apology. 

She thought, “Wine–glazed steak.. 

I didn’t eat it last time, but I finally got the chance this time. 

Unexpectedly, they have the same tastes and like the same food.” 

Despite the argument with Carlos, she restored her relationship with him. 

She and Carlos confessed their feelings to each other and spent more time together. 

But she was also busy with her new project for the next few days. 

New products were about to be launched in the coming Autumn. Moreover, the best selection for each season was on schedule, and Sarah would be responsible for it. Even Emma personally rewarded Edith and asked her to be in charge of the cooperation with Nomel while matchmaking Edith and Daniel. 

Sarah was overjoyed and invited everyone to dinner that day. 

Edith was jubilant when Sarah got what she wanted. 

Edith had been so busy the past few days that she spent less time with Carlos and refused to play Texas Hold’em poker with Robert. 

During this period, Johann visited Edith twice but was refused entry. 

Edith thought, “It seems that Johann didn’t learn to shoulder his responsibilities. With a pregnant wife, he still can’t forget his past.

Johann, whom Vanessa tried every means to get, refuses to accept reality or face the future and even reminisces about the past.” 

In the evening, she worked overtime and told Carlos not to pick her up. When she was done, she would take a taxi home. 

She had been busy until midnight when she finally finished designing the new product. Next, she sent it to the sewing room to make clothes. 

Looking at her designs, she often breathed a sigh of relief and kept a backup. 

When she was about to switch off the lights and leave, they suddenly flashed, and then with a snap, all the lights went out. 

At the same time, there was a tinkling sound from the front door. 

She hurried forward to check, only to find the smart door could not be opened when the power was off. 

Unluckily, the distribution box was in the warehouse next door. 

She thought, “Oh my goodness. If the power goes out now, how can I go back?” 

Chapter 149 

It was cold and eerie in the dark office, with a few wisps of moonlight shining through the window. 

The whistling night wind and rustling leaves made her a little scared. 

She looked at her phone and found only 5% power left. She pounded her own head, thinking, “I must be a fool after being tricked by Carlos. Why else am I always forgetting to charge my phone?” 

She quickly called Carlos for help. Soon, the call was answered. 

“Uncle, come and save me. I’m trapped…” 

Before she could finish her words, her phone was out of battery and automatically turned off. 

She stared blankly at the dark screen of her phone. 

She complained in her heart, “What? Just a phone call. Why does it take so much power? 

The phone was automatically turned off!” 

She looked at the ceiling in despair, thinking, “It’s over, I don’t know if he heard me.” 

Carlos just lay down and then received a call from her. Initially, he was quite happy. 

Unexpectedly, she asked him for help! 

He leaped out of bed and quickly put on his clothes to ask Sam to check on Edith’s whereabouts. 

In the end, he discovered she wasn’t in any danger. 

She was just trapped in the office due to an electrical fault. 

Feeling cold, she curled up in her chair and tried to calm herself down. 

Her mind played tricks on her, each jerking shadow in the office space making her gasp. 

Just as the clock on the wall ticked away ominously, there was a sudden rush of footsteps outside the door. 

Shocked and scared, she jumped off the stool and curled up on the computer table. 

At this moment, lights flashed several times and finally lit up. The whole office became bright! 

A figure suddenly appeared in front of her. 

He was tall and graceful. 

The man stood in front of her with his leather shoes and bent down to reach out his big hand to her. 

She looked up and noticed his helpless expression. 

The sight of Carlos quelled all her fear. She was on the verge of crying and rushed out to hug him tightly. 

Sam saw their hug and tactfully asked the others to leave. 

Sam thought, “Now, they should be together.” 

Afraid she would fall, he hugged her petite body tightly, thinking, “Aren’t you afraid of knocking me down when you rush into my hug?” 

She buried herself tightly in his arms. He thought, “Her shoulders are trembling, and she is crying. 

She gets more prone to crying each day.” 

He kept patting her back and coaxing her softly. 

“Don’t worry. I’m coming.” 

She didn’t understand why she was crying, but his fortuitous arrival when she was in despair moved her. 

She thought, “I have been frightened, and thought I had to sleep in the office tonight. But out of nowhere, here you are. 

You appeared like a savior. What if you leave me in the future?” 

She was full of worry. 

“Okay, okay, I’ll take you home.” 

He simply held her up and carried her away. 

She was a little embarrassed and struggled. “Put me down!” 

“You threw yourself at me. Are you blaming me now?” he joked. 

Edith blushed instantly and turned embarrassed beyond words. 

Chapter 149 

Right after they left, someone bent over and quietly walked in. 

This time, Carlos did not drive back to the villa but to his residence instead. 

She was a little surprised. “Aren’t you going back?” 

“I’ve already told Susan you’re staying at my place tonight.” 

His words rendered her nervous. She thought, “If I lived with you, would you do something else? 

She was still petrified!
