Chapter 148 

She hurried over and saw his profile tinged with solemnity reflected in the car window. 

She thought, “His expression is quite bleak. Has he been waiting for me until now?” 

She quickly opened the car door and got in, apologizing, “I’m sorry for being late. I went out for a while but forgot to bring any money. My phone also ran out of juice. Have you been waiting for me for a long time? I’m really sorry… 

“What did you do?” 

Carlos interrupted her coldly. His serious tone was threatening in the car. 

She got a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach and explained, “I… I went to the hospital to visit an old friend…” 

She finished speaking and unexpectedly found her chin pinched when he forced her to raise her head and look up at him. 

Disgruntled, he narrowed his eyes with a flash of sorrow. 

“What? Is it difficult to tell me the truth? Can’t you say that you want to visit your ex–boyfriend? Or you can’t forget him in your heart, but you don’t want to say it?” 

Carlos‘ words with laced with anger. 

He had come early to wait for her to get off work, but she hadn’t come down for a long time. 

At that moment, he seemed to have gone crazy and even tried to use all means to look for her. Ultimately, he connected with Sarah, discovering that Edith had left with Vanessa. 

He thought, “You visited your ex- -boyfriend when I tried hard to find you. 

No, to be exact, your ex–fiance. 

You were engaged for a long time and deeply loved each other, right?

She clenched her fists and added in a sulk, “Carlos, you misunderstood. He’s sick. Vanessa came to me because he is sick and needs nobody but me.” 

“Are you the only one who can help him? Well, you’ve been in love for a long time. Only you can help him, right? You said you don’t want to disappoint others, but what are you doing now?” He narrowed his eyes in rage and looked at her delicate face by which he had been enchanted. 

He thought, “But now… why do I feel heartbroken? 

I don’t relish the thought of your entanglement with any man, let alone a man you loved.” 

His words made her full of shock. 

She thought, “Did I disappoint you? 

Disappointed… 

This word is dreadful. 

It’s not like that!” 

Edith shook her head desperately and mustered the courage to throw herself at him and hug him tightly. 

“Johann and I broke up a long time ago. If it weren’t for Vanessa, I wouldn’t have come to him. I quickly finished my visit and came back. But without any money on me, I had to walk back. I walked a long way, and I’m sorry I made you wait for so long. But why do we have to quarrel? Aren’t you tired 

of it?” 

“Carlos, I don’t want to argue with you. Don’t be mean to me. Your expression right now scares me!” 

He was surprised by her sudden tight hug. 

His tage dissipated immediately when he felt her soft body. 

He frowned and felt sulk still linger in his chest.

He thought, “Now, I finally realize how lonely someone would feel to wait for someone, especially when I knew nothing about her return.I am just like 

child waiting for his parents while worried about being abandoned.

Carlos did not respond, with a stiffened body and slightly trembling fingers. 

Feeling his stable breathing, she heaved a sigh of relief. 

She let go of his body. “I swear that I have no love for Johann. I cherish my years with him and regard them as some of my best memories. But it’s over. 

I wish him and Vanessa all the best in their marriage. I am trying to love someone else.”

Carlos scrutinized her serious expression and sparkling eyes. 

Mesmerized, he suddenly stepped forward and pulled her into his arms. 

He embraced her tightly, kissing her passionately while sucking her tongue. 

Instantly, she was overwhelmed by his fierce kisses. 

She felt a little uncomfortable and struggled but failed to withdraw from his tight grip. 

She could only feel a warmth she had never felt in his embrace. 

They immersed themselves in kisses. 

Kisses were gentle and sweet. 

For the first time, she felt his deep love for her. 

She thought, “It turns out that you’re also the jealous type.” 

After a long time, they ended the kiss, filling the car with an awkward atmosphere. 

She blushed and said nervously, “Well… I should go to the office to grab my purse. See you later…” 

Then, she hurriedly opened the car door and ran away without a pause. 

He subconsciously touched his lips and recalled the feelings, thinking, “Your lips are sweet. 

I dissolve into reveling in the kisses.”

He thought, “God must have specially sent her for me.

No matter what happens to Carlos and me, at the very least, I can still love someone, I thought that I would no longer love someone, but now I want to experience these sweet feelings again. 

I will pursue our sweet love, clear our misunderstanding and try my best to love him. 

Johann and I are childhood sweethearts, and I’ll cherish my time with him. 

But now, I’ve decided to accept Carlos gradually, as if I’m gambling in a love game.
