Chapter 131
Chapter 131
Carlos‘ eyes were deep–set, and Edith couldn’t read his mind staring into them.
She was a simple person.
Looked at him uneasily, she didn’t know what his answer would be. To lier surprise, Carlos pulled her into a tight hug in the next second.
Even though he hugged her with one hand, it was so tight that she couldn’t break free. In the end, she had to stop resisting.
Edith murmured his name, not understanding why he was hugging her.
“Edith, listen carefully. From now on, I’ll never let you down. Do you hear me?”
Carlos domineering and calm voice rang in her ears, which was so nice.
She suddenly felt warm. No one had ever promised that they would never fail her.
This time, her heart palpitated fast. She felt a trace of happiness.
It was as sweet as sugar.
Ever since she came home from abroad, she had run into all kinds of difficult situations. This was the first time that she had such a feeling, and it felt great.
She smiled faintly and said. “Then I hope you can keep your word. If you… get serious about me, then… I can try to grow to like you. I can’t guarantee how long it will take for me to fall for you, but… I will try my best.”
“Take your time. We’ve got years ahead of us. I’ll wait,” he said as a bright smile curled on his lips.
He looked more charming when he smiled like this, which made her heart beat loud.
Soon, she was done dressing his wound and tried to push him away.
Carlos faked not understanding what she meant. He gazed at her with a wicked smile.
In the end, Edith said, “It’s getting really late. You should go to the guest room and get some sleep.”
“Since you’ve decided to fall for me, why are you still asking me to leave?” he said playfully.
“What? I just said I’ll give it a try. Can you not get me wrong? I’m still a married woman. It’s already not appropriate that we live under the same roof now. Cut it out!” she said.
A little embarrassed, she blushed.
She blushed easily when she got teased.
That was because she was too shy.
Hearing this. Carlos was speechless. He got himself into this.
He had patience for his prey. He would be good to her, and when she fell in love with him, he would get her into bed. At that. time, he didn’t think she would still try to run away from him.
Rubbing her head, he said good night to him and intended to leave.

She breathed a sigh of relief. She had been worried that he wouldn’t leave so easily.
Just as she was relieved, he seemed to get an idea and suddenly turned to face her.
He kissed her gently on the forehead, which caught her off guard. She looked up at him in surprise.
She wondered what that kiss was for.
“Good night kiss. Are you happy?” he said.
“See yourself out now or I’ll kick you out!” she said angrily. How could he kiss her without letting her know?
Carlos was into driving her mad, which gave him a sense of accomplishment.
After he got out of the room, she touched her head. The kiss was quick, making her heart skip a beat.
What should she do? Carlos was such an excellent man. No one could turn him down when he treated them so well.
She had to control herself. She couldn’t fall for him so soon. After all, she was still Simon’s wife.
If she didn’t divorce Simon, it would never work out between her and Carlos.
She couldn’t cheat on her husband though it was just a nominal marriage that neither of them wanted and it was just a deal.
She took a deep breath to cool herself down and lay in bed to stop herself from letting her imagination run wild.
The next morning, when she went to work as usual, Carlos gave her a ride.
This time, she got clever. She asked him to drop her off at an intersection in the neighborhood of her company in advance so that she could avoid coming across her colleagues.
Carlos had a very important meeting at noon, so he let her have lunch without him. He would pick her up after she got off
work.
She nodded her head to express that was understandable. She was to show that she understood. She was not clingy.
At noon, Daniel came over and filled Edith and Sarah in on his branch office’s inauguration. So he invited them to lunch.
But this time, she and Sarah insisted on paying on their own. They couldn’t always let him pay the check.
“Sarah, Edith, you two are so thin. You must eat more. The summer wind in Caurtine so strong that it might blow you into the air if you don’t put on some weight.” Daniel said with concern.
“Daniel, you’d better worry about me alone. Someone will take good care of Edith,” Sarah said with a grin.
“What did you mean by that?” Daniel asked as the smile froze on his face. He seemed to have realized something
When she heard this, Edith guessed what Sarah was going to say. So she attempted to stop here, but it was too late.
“You don’t know, do you? Edith is seeing Carlos now. Do you know Carlos Lawson? He’s the heir of the famous Lawstom!”
Sarah said.
She blurted it out though Edith asked her not to with her looks.
Daniel was stupefied. Edith was Simon’s wife. So the other guy in the restaurant he had seen that day was Carlos.
But… Edith was a married woman, wasn’t she?
“Then… what about Simon?” he inquired.
*She seldom meets Simon. But she has been sticking to Carlos. The two of them are close, and they live together, Sarah said.
Daniel processed all this, and for a moment, he didn’t know how to respond.
“I see… That’s good…” he said unnaturally.
Edith’s face turned red all of a sudden. She was so exasperated that even her hands were trembling.
She didn’t understand why Sarah would say this to Daniel.
Daniel would think that Edith was a slut. She was a married woman, yet she still fooled around with another man.
Sarah had exaggerated the fact and she herself were supposed to know it. She and Carlos were not that close as Sarah had
said.
Edith glanced at him awkwardly, not knowing what to say.
Although most of what she said was not true, she could not find a reason to refute it.
Carlos would often sleep over at the villa, which could be regarded as moving in with her to some extent.
However, nothing had happened between her and Carlos.
But after those words came out of Sarah’s mouth, no one would believe that she and Carlos didn’t have sex.
In the end, she was so pissed that she pulled Sarah to the women’s room.
After leaving the private room, she couldn’t help but ask. “Sarah, why did you tell Daniel this? What you said about me and Carlos is not completely true.”
Hearing this, Sarah looked distressed. She said, “My bad. I’ve loose lips. I shouldn’t have said those things. I know that nothing happened between you and Carlos. Daniel knows you so well. I bet he won’t misunderstand your relationship.”
She stared at her pitifully as if she was blaming herself for all that. For a moment, Edith didn’t know what to say.
