Chapter 118 

Carlos was sitting at a table by the window and seemed to be talking business with someone. The two of them were discussing quite cheerfully. 

He shone like the brightest star in the night but also like the sun rising in the early morning, with a clear sky in the backdrop. In this way, he always attracted the attention of all those in the vicinity. 

He was like a magnet, pulling everyone around him in, giving them no chance to escape. 

Even if this man wasn’t looking directly at someone, his bearing was still undeniably all–encompassing. 

Carlos didn’t even notice Edith, but her traitorous heart had already started beating faster already. 

Edith shrunk to hide behind Daniel, causing him to narrow his eyes and ask gently, “What’s wrong?” 

“No, it’s just that there’s someone I know who I don’t want to talk to. Let’s go sit over there.” 

Edith chose to sit at the table next to Carlos!. There was a decorative divider between the tables, tall enough to effectively block the line of sight. 

Daniel nodded and followed her. 

Now that she couldn’t see Carlos anymore, Edith was in a much better mood. 

For some reason, she always felt guilty when she saw him. 

Perhaps it was because she had spoken so brashly that day. 

Or maybe because she had interrupted him and Meggie last night. 

Perhaps… it was fear, or maybe unease. Whatever it was, she did not want to have anything to do with that man. 

She had only known Carlos Lawson for the short span of a month, but she felt like he had invaded every aspect of her life. 

She was frightened and uneasy, trying desperately to get rid of her current situation. 

Daniel ordered Edith’s and Sarah’s favorite foods. The two girls were thus very happy. 

Daniel had wanted them to help him out abroad, but when he heard that they were with Simpledux, he couldn’t help but smile warmly. 

“I’m good friends with Emma Britton. She has put in a lot of effort to open a branch for the brand here. I’d feel bad if I were to poach you from her.” 

They were all well–known figures in the industry, so it was not surprising that they knew of each other. 

Daniel was also her idol, and she hoped that she would one day develop her own concept into its own brand.. 

Daniel didn’t talk too much about work. Instead, he talked a lot about life. He was just like a big brother, full of warmth. 

Midway through their meal, Edith tactfully went to the bathroom to give Daniel and Sarah some alone time. 

Before leaving her seat, she squeezed Sarah’s hand under the table. 

She whispered in Sarah’s ear, “All the best. If you succeed in confessing your feelings, remember to thank me.” 

After that, she left happily. Sarah’s face turned red. Looking at the man she had had a crush on for a long time, her heart skipped a beat. 

Of course, Edith didn’t actually need to use the bathroom. Instead, she hid by the corridor leading to the bathroom and spied on their table. 

After all, being nosey was a natural human trait. 

The thing was, Sarah was shy. She kept her head down as she ate, not saying a word. This drove Edith to anxiety. 

Chapter 118 

She had always spoken her truth, living her life boldly. Thus, she hated that others could be hesitant in emotional matters. Witnessing this, Edith wanted badly to rush up and confess to Daniel for Sarah. 

Yet, this was still someone else’s private matter, and Edith couldn’t intervene. 

In the end, feeling disappointed, she couldn’t watch anymore. Otherwise, she might just get herself worked up.” 

After hanging around there for so long, Edith felt the need to use the bathroom. She hurried to the restroom. 

However, she slammed into someone’s hard embrace when she turned around. The impact made her nose hurt. 

“Ouch!” She cried out in pain and looked up at the tall man in front of her, feeling wronged. 

When she saw the face before her, Edith was in disbelief. 

“Uncle…?” 

The second she said that, Edith realized that it was a mistake. There was no reason to call the man uncle as she was going to divorce Simon soon. 

After that, they would all be going on their separate ways! 

“Mr… Mr. Lawson…” she said instead. 

When Carlos heard her formal greeting, he was instantly displeased. 

When she used to call him Uncle, her voice always had a sweetness to it; it was an attempt to please him. 

But now, she was calling him Mr. Lawson so coldly! 

Carlos frowned and said in a chilly voice, “If I remember correctly, you and Simon haven’t divorced yet, have you? Are you going to be rude already?” 

When Edith heard this, she immediately lost her temper. 

What the hell was Simon doing? Why did he have to drag this divorce out for so long? 

She was a little annoyed, but… she had no choice but to reluctantly call out, “Uncle.” 

Unexpectedly, as soon as she called him this, Carlos‘ mood turned sunny. He caressed her hair like she was some small animal and said, “Good girl. 

That’s what I like to hear.” 

This response led Edith to fly into a rage. 

Who cared if he liked to hear it? 

Edith hated saying it! 

She frowned slightly in displeasure but dared not give voice to her rage. “Then when is Simon divorcing me? What if I draft a divorce agreement? He can sign that first.” 

“He’s very busy and doesn’t have time to deal with these trivial matters. I’ll be doing it for him.” 

When Edith heard this, she was completely dumbfounded. “Simon is busy? Is he busy picking up girls?” 

Shouldn’t Carlos be swamped every day managing the affairs of the entire group? How could he have the time to deal with his nephew’s romantic 

tribulations? 

There had to be something wrong with Carlos Lawson! 

Edith took a deep breath and asked feebly. “Uncle, do you have a complex? Why do you have to deal with everything for Simon?” 

“What’s wrong? Is there a problem with that?” 

Carlos rapped on Edith’s head rudely. Looking at her sad expression, it seemed that seeing him had made her very unhappy. This realization made him feel displeased. Once Edith and Simon got divorced, didn’t that mean that he wouldn’t be able to exert control over her anymore? 

He wouldn’t ever be able to do that again. 

For some reason, his heart ached when he thought about this truth. 

He didn’t want to let go. After all, it had been so hard to find an interesting girl like her. 

He needed a wife. There would be other options even if he didn’t have her. 

Even so, he felt that it was better to keep her by his side. 

Right at that moment, Daniel showed up. 

“Edith, are you done? Sarah isn’t feeling well, so I’ll be sending you home first.” 

As soon as Edith saw Daniel, she hid behind him as if he were her lifeline. She was even holding onto the edge of his sleeve. 

She behaved like a child who relied on an adult, her movements so natural and intimate. 

Carlos narrowed his eyes in an instant, his gaze filling with hostility. 

Daniel looked up at Carlos, his sapphire eyes assessing. He immediately felt Carlos‘ intimidating presence. 

This wasn’t an ordinary person. How had Edith gotten involved with him? 

“Edith, this is…” 

“He… can be considered my relative. He’s a little older, so he’s my uncle.” She racked her brains for an explanation. 

She didn’t know how to explain to Daniel that she had gotten married. 

However, she didn’t know that Daniel already knew about it. 

Hearing this, Daniel said, “Since you are my friend’s uncle, then you are also like my uncle. I’m Daniel Maddox.” 

As soon as Daniel said this, Carlos looked furious. 

Daniel looked like he was only a few years younger than himself, yet he was actually calling him his uncle too. 

Then perhaps he should call Edith Aunt Edith!
