Chapter 117 

After setting things up so painstakingly, she couldn’t accept that this was what it had come to. 

Let the public relations department handle it and have a press conference. That was it? 

“Yes,” the man responded with neutrally. It seemed that he wasn’t very bothered since he didn’t say more than that. 

Meggie was a little dissatisfied. She plucked up her courage and said, “Carlos, actually… I’m fine. Everyone knows that I have the Lawson family backing me up. In fact, this would be good for my future. It’s just that… after this mess, what will Natalie think if she finds out? The five–year agreement is about to come to an end, and Natalie… will be returning to your side.” 

“She has always belonged to the Lawson family. After being away for so long, it’s about time that she returned to the fold. Considering how smart Natalie is, I’m sure that she’ll know there’s someone pulling the strings behind the scenes. In any case, I’ve always seen you as my little sister. Natalie will 

understand.” 

When Meggie heard this, her heart experienced a terrible twang. 

Her delicate hands were clenched tightly into fists, and her newly done nails cut deeply into her flesh. The pain was a little excruciating. 

Natalie, Natalie, Natalie… 

Why was Carlos always so gentle when he said Natalie’s name? Meanwhile, he looked so different when he called her name, as if he were talking to any Tom, Dick, and Harry. 

Despite what he claimed, Meggie knew that the reality was different. If it weren’t for Natalie asking Carlos to take care of Meggie when she’d left five years. ago, Carlos would hardly have bothered. 

Meggie really didn’t understand. Natalie had already run off with another man, so why was he still so taken with her? 

It was rumored that Carlos didn’t like women. Only Meggie knew it was only because he loved Natalie so much that he would never feel the same way toward another woman, 

She hardened her heart and couldn’t help but provoke him. “Carlos, Natalie and Mr. Jones have been together for five years. Spending so much time together, do you think they have already…” 

“You talk too much!” 

Before Meggie could finish talking, Carlos cut her off in a cold tone. 

Even through the phone, his chilling voice was like something out of hell, shaking her to her core. 

Her whole body stiffened, and cold sweat broke out. 

She knew that he was angry. Carlos did not like to hear such sentiments. 

However… it was only the truth! 

Back then, Edward Jones had boldly stolen Natalie from him. For all that there was a five–year deadline, these five years had been spent with them in close quarters together in a foreign country. Things were set in stone now. How could they change? 

Everyone knew that Carlos was wearing the horns, but he remained obstinate, waiting for Natalie to return. 

She couldn’t stand it anymore. Natalie was a disloyal person who had betrayed him. Why was he still so holding on so tightly to her? 

“Carlos, if you keep doing this… I will feel bad.” 

“This is none of your business. She’s your sister. If you slander her again, I’ll respond accordingly. I still have some matters to attend to. Goodbye.” 

His tone was cold and forbidding. With that, he hung up. 

Carlos closed his eyes slightly and thought of that sweet and beautiful face. 

The five years were almost up, and Natalie herself had already returned to Caurtine. 

Carlos shoved the image of her face from his mind, determined not to think about her again, refocusing to handle the matter at hand. 

Even though all the evidence pointed to Edith White, he still chose to believe her. 

How could that silly girl write such a post? Moreover, based on the photograph, it was easy to tell that it had been taken by a professional. He did not believe that Edith would have such skills. 

She was so naive and didn’t have the capacity to scheme like this. How could someone who could be so ecstatic just because of some spaghetti with bolognese have the guts for it? 

He actually knew about her feelings for him. He didn’t mind if she caused trouble, but she shouldn’t have implicated Edith! 

They still hadn’t divorced yet, so she was still his wife. No one could lay a finger on her except him. 

Right then, Edith had no idea that she was the scapegoat. 

That morning, she had squeezed into the subway with Sarah to head to work. Hearing the crowd around her talking about the incident, she looked up the day’s headlines curiously. 

As soon as she saw the title, she laughed without inhibition. 

“Haha, Sugar Pea’s Sweet Bean… Haha, who on earth thought of this headline? Sweet Bean! Haha, it’s so funny!” 

Seeing Edith so overjoyed, Sarah shook her head helplessly and said, “Behave yourself. There might be a lot of Meggie’s fans in this subway car. Careful they don’t rip you to shreds with their comments!” 

“I’m not laughing at Meggie Huffam. I’m laughing at Carlos! It’s killing me! Sweet Bean…” 

“All right, all right, control yourself. I have some good news to tell you. Do you want to hear it?” 

“Oh? You have good news?” Edith’s eyes lit up. She was already in a brilliant mood thanks to the news this morning, so she didn’t expect there to be 

more good news. 

“Well, Daniel is coming to visit us. His company has opened a branch in Caurtine, so he’s here to look in on it. He might stay here for a long time. You changed your number and he couldn’t get in touch with you, so he contacted me,” Sarah said gently. At the thought of Daniel coming over, she was very happy. 

“Daniel is coming over? I’m so happy! We can bum meals from him!” Edith joked. 

Daniel Maddox was several years older than her, and they graduated from the same school. He was their professor’s only son. He was actually of mixed heritage. He also treated them exceptionally well, often teaching them things beyond the syllabus. 

He had established his own brand when he was in college. Now, it had flourished into a household name. It wasn’t something either of them could aspire to, from the custom–made products to the sky–high prices. 

If he came over, the trio would be reunited. Edith was naturally happy about this. 

Daniel’s was scheduled for the next night. Edith and Sarah both rushed there after work. They quickly found Daniel amidst the throng at the airport. 

He was lean and tall, and he had exceptional taste in clothes. He had eye–catching features, especially because of his heritage. Just walking through the crowd with his long legs and shades, he could make women drool. 

As soon as he appeared, he was like a model on a catwalk, easily attracting the attention of all passers–by. 

There were even some women who went up to take photos with him! 

Daniel refused them with a smile before walking toward Edith and Sarah. Enthusiastically, he wrapped his two friends in a warm hug. 

Chapter 117 

Sarah had dressed up for tonight, having put on high heels, done her makeup, and curled her hair. In her long dress, she was a sight to behold. 

Edith could naturally understand Sarah’s intentions. After all, she had been crushing on Daniel for a long time 

She tactfully walked next to Sarah and helpfully nudged her into Daniel once in a while. 

Sarah could only blush, not able to say a word. 

Finally, the three of them arrived at a restaurant. The original plan had been for Edith and Sarah to treat Daniel to the meal since he had come to their turf. However, they did not expect that Daniel had already reserved a table at a high–end restaurant before getting on the plane. As such, they would be bumming a meal off Daniel again. 

When they entered the restaurant, they unexpectedly saw someone they knew. 

Oh, what was this? Sweet Bean?
