Carlos noticed that Edith was trembling in fear and thought, “She’s obviously scared to death, so how did she have the guts to arrange that?” 

He pinched her chin and said harshly, “Since you knew I would be angry, why did you do this?” 

“Because… I don’t like you! I don’t like the Lawson family either. Are you happy with this answer?” 

Edith finally mustered up her courage and looked straight at the devil. 

“Uncle Carlos, do all the men in your family get married in such a casual way? Do all of you buy your wives? Since the Lawson family has so much money, why can’t they just buy another one for you? I understand that you need a wife to save your dignity, but I don’t want to be your shield. I hate this unfair deal as well! It’s easy for you to get any woman to succumb to you! Plus, it’ll be horrible for the Lawson family if outsiders were to find out that I have two husbands, right?” 

Her voice was so loud that it sounded like a child arguing and defending her point in class. 

She looked stubborn and refused to admit defeat. Her eyes were full of life, but it made him a little annoyed. 

“Do you really mean what you said? You don’t have any feelings for the Lawson family, and you… don’t like me at all?” 

“Yes! Everyone is desperate to be part of your family, but I only want to stay away from all of you! To be honest, if it weren’t for the Lawson family, I should be married to Johann by now. So, isn’t the Lawson family the culprit behind the tragedy that has befallen me?”

He mercilessly pinched her chin and said coldly, “Well, since that’s the case, I won’t force you to stay. Get back to your own family. If I’m in a good mood, I’ll ask Simon to send the divorce agreement over.” 

With that, he turned around coldly and left without even taking another look at her. 

She stood rooted to the spot, unable to believe her ears. 

“Carlos is actually letting me go and agreeing to our divorce? But… why am I not happy about it?” she thought.

Susan did not stop her but she just kept persuading her to stay. 

“Mrs. Lawson, are you really going back? Mr. Lawson said that you can still live in this house, and you don’t have to care about all those mean things he said.” Seeing that the couple had an argument and that Edith was going to move back home, Susan couldn’t help stopping her. 

“I don’t want to live here. My husband isn’t coming, and his mother isn’t coming either. Only that bastard, Carlos would be here! Why would I continue to stay here? Thanks for taking care of me these days, I really appreciate that. But I have my own life too and this… is not the life I want to live. It’s my prison, my cage, and I don’t need this fake marriage. What I want is a man who truly loves me!” 

“Does Mr. Lawson not treat you well enough?” Susan asked. 

As soon as Susan said that, Carlos‘ face appeared in Edith’s mind. She actually felt a little bitter about this. “He… His kindness to me is all just for show. I don’t need that.”

back.

“As you said, many women want to marry me, but she doesn’t want to. This matter ends here. Get Ned to draft a divorce agreement. Compensate her well.
