Chapter 38
Emma’s POV
It is now day two of living in the Speartail Horde. Andy has been trying to help me show my “powers” but nothing was working. It is like it went away for some reason. Honestly, I liked that they weren’t working. It showed I still somewhat had a normal life.
Alex’s arms and wings wrapped around me from behind, “You know, being normal is kind of boring, Em.”
“Oh so you are snooping through my thoughts again?”
She turned me around in her arms so I was facing her, “Well it is hard not too.”
I reached up and traced my fingers against the horns sticking out of her head, “I am glad that you are in your evil form a lot more now.”
She scoffed, “It is not as fun as you think it is. I am stuck in it for now since we are in another evil’s territory and since you are in danger. My evil feels the need to protect… It also doesn’t help that I need to fly.”
“Well we are underground. You must feel trapped down here.”
This horde’s territory was pretty cool. It was basically an underground mansion with a ton of rooms. Apparently, Demarcus built this place when angels attacked about a hundred years ago. He moved his horde to the one place where the angels could get them. There are a ton of secret entrances to this place and no one knows where they are unless you are inside.
Alex sighed and stretched her wings out, “Demarcus says fight days are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Which is one more day from now.”
Just then a fire alarm sounded and evils rushed out of rooms. Izzy came speeding down the hall, “Emma!”
“What is going on?”
“That is the alarm for someone going through an entrance without permission. Come this way. Elijah and Larus are over here.”
We followed her down the hall to see Demarcus, Elijah, and Larus staring down an evil with spiky black hair. The evil was wearing a trench coat that fell to the floor and his grey eyes glared over all of us. The evil had a thick Russian accent, “So I see Demarcus’ human mate and Larus’ fledgling with her mate, I assume.”
Larus crossed his arms, “What are you doing here, Alastor?”
“You know exactly why Larus. Do you really think The Guard is just going to let you guys fight the angels without us knowing?”
I looked up at Alex, “The Guard?”
His piercing grey eyes snapped over to me, “Seems Larus hasn’t told you about us yet. You see I am a member of The Guard much like an army of evils if you really think about it. We keep tabs on all the evils that are created and that are killed. We also fight when needed and we make sure evils are revealing themselves to humans too much.”
“So you guys are like evil police?”
He grinned and licked his sharp teeth, “Well yes in human terms. Let’s just say we are more of a group of assassins. We are made up of the strongest evils in existence and if an evil does something we don’t approve of, which is very hard to do, we get rid of them. We also do a few favors for humans when needed… Anyways, there has been a large movement of angels scouting out hordes. I assume this is your doing, yes?”
Larus nodded, “Yes it is. The angels planned to kill my fledgling and her mate. We defeated them in the first battle and now they are being sore losers. It was justified.”
Alastor laughed, “Do not worry Larus. The Guard wants to make a deal. The angels are becoming too greedy, taking souls that belong to us. They are even mendling in some of our other affairs. We need to rewrite the truce we have with them and go back to working together but it seems they don’t want that. So, we want them put back in their place.”
“What do we get out of it? I am not going to work for you guys and that is final.”
“Even though we really want you to work for us, that is no part of the deal. We simply want you guys to keep your quarrel with the angels going and we will provide more evils for your army. After the war is ended, you can go back to your territory and the cooperation with the angels will be restored. It is a win win.”
Elijah glared at him, “Alastor, we are not stupid. What do you really want?”
His grey eyes narrowed, “Do you not trust me?”
“No.”
He laughed again, “You are still very smart, Elijah. But, I assure you we only want peace.”
*Alexandra, make sure to keep Emma away from him. I have a feeling he is here for her. The Guard is always looking for more people to use.*
We all nodded and Demarcus warped an arm around Alastor’s shoulders, “Okay then let’s get you situated in a room. We can talk more about this later. You must be tired, we are a long way from Russia.”
Elijah looked over at Izzy once they disappeared around the corner, “Izzy, I think you should stay clear of him too. For now stay with Emma, whenever your mate is gone. Same goes for you too, Emma.”
I smiled, “Of course, I don’t have a problem with that.”
He then grabbed Larus’ hand, “Let’s start thinking of some back up plans in case Alastor has other plans for this war.”
They both walked down the corner, leaving me with Alex and Izzy. I sighed, “Anyone want to go to the game room?”
Izzy perked up, “Yes! I have an hour break before I have to go back to the hospital wing.”
Alex wrapped her tail around me and pulled me into her side then started walking down the hall, “I am fine with that.”
I pulled at her tail with my hand, “Is this really necessary?”
She shrugged and leaned down to kiss the top of my head, “Yes. I am not letting some high and mighty evil take you from me.”
The rest of the day was finally a time to relax and just mess around. It turns out Alex is really good at ping pong as she made a game of laughing at me whenever I tried to make an attempt to hit the ball. I even had Izzy play with me against her but nothing seemed to help. I guess enhanced hand and eye coordination was part of being an evil. We finally went back to our temporary room around eight and I curled up next to Alex on the bed. My favorite thing was when she wrapped her wing around me like a huge blanket.
I glanced up at her, “Alex?”
Her red eyes looked down, “Yeah?”
“Is the fighting ever going to stop? I just want to be with you but all these things keep happening. It just feels like something will always be there to stop us from being together. I mean you are an evil and I am a human-angel thing.”
She smiled, “You remember that day when Larus got mad at me?”
“Of course I do.”
“Well Larus got mad at me for thinking the same thing. That day you said I was your mate and that you didn’t know how or why but we belonged together… We belong together, Em. I don’t care what happens but I will always fight for you.”
I smiled and leaned up to plant a kiss on her lips that I have grown to love, “I will fight for you too.”
She smiled, “Go to bed, my tiny mate.”
I glared at her, “I am not tiny. I am perfectly average for a human.”
“Says the girl that is five feet tall.”
“And what are you? Ten feet tall? How’s the weather up there?”
She laughed, “I am actually 6’5.”
I huffed and laid back down, “Whatever, good night.”
“Good night, my beautiful tiny mate. Don’t worry, I will protect you.”
