Evil Angels

Chapter 26

Alexandra’s POV

Right as the time rolled around for Emma’s shift to end I bolted for the door. I took myself up into the night sky as I was at the general store in under five minutes. My eyes watched the area for anyone as I landed and changed into my human. Emma was closing up the back door as I snuck up behind her. I jumped and wrapped my arms around her, making her jump out of her own skin. She realized it was me then let out a breath, holding a hand on her chest, “Alex! You almost scared me to death!”

I smiled, “I promise if that could have killed you, I wouldn’t have done it.”

She sighed, “I forgot you can do that.”

“Hey what’s wrong?”

She shook her head, “It’s been a long day. I will tell you about it when we get home.”

She quickly locked the door and jumped in her truck while I let my evil out. I waited until she started driving before taking off. I flew slowly above her the whole twenty minutes back to her house.

I could have made this flight in five… I don’t understand why people drive everywhere. It’s so slow.

°Maybe it’s because we don’t have wings.°

“Oh yeah…”

She pulled up to her house and jumped out while I landed behind her. She sighed and wrapped her arms around me, “Let’s hurry up, I can really use that pie.”

I let a small laugh and wrapped my tail around her, snapping my wings out. As we were flying so slowly lifted her head from my shoulder looking down at the world below us, “The trees look beautiful tonight.”

I focused down, watching as the dew from the night rolled off the leaves. To the right of it I saw a bear with her club lapping at the water in a stream. I focused more, seeing the sparkling of fish scales as they tried to swim upstream. Emma gasped in my arms, “I did not just see that.”

“What?”

“My eyes zoomed into the trees and I could see the fish swimming in that stream.”

“You can see that?!”

“I think I did. It was crazy… It felt like I was looking through someone else’s eyes. Like a dream or something.”

I looked forward, seeing we were almost about to land at the castle, “You were looking through mine.”

I stretched my wings out to slow us down before my feet touched the ground and carefully placed her down while I morphed into my human. We both walked into the house, finding Elijah and Larus cooking away in the kitchen. We both sat down at the counter while Larus threw some pasta into a pot, “Hey guys. Emma, how was your day off from this craziness?”

Emma scoffed, “I won’t call it a day off… The Sheriff came by the store.”

My eyes widened and I felt my evil try to come forward at the thought of the Sheriff interrogating her, “What did she want?”

She looked down and pulled out a crumbled picture from her pocket. Without saying anything, she flattened it out on the counter. Larus and Elijah both stopped cooking and turned around to glance at it. My evil fully came out as my eyes locked with the face of the angel I killed stared back at me.

Why is the Sheriff wondering about him?! And why does he look human?

I picked up the picture and turned to Larus, “This angel looks human. Is it possible they can morph into humans like us?”

Larus nodded, “Of course they can, fledgling. We are all angels. They just prefer not to. They see humans as lesser beings and would rather live together isolated from everything.”

Larus grabbed onto Elijah’s hand, “Do you remember them speaking of an angel living on Earth? They held you captive for a while. You must have heard something.”

Elijah took the picture examining it closer, “There was something… but the angels haven’t practiced it for years. They actually have a law against it.”

Larus’ eyes widened, “Are you talking about guardian angels?... But that angel couldn’t have been a guardian. They only reveal their angels when the person they are protecting is in danger and the only person around here is Emma.”

Elijah shook his head, “No he wasn’t a guardian but I do remember them speaking of a rogue angel before. I overheard a few conversations of them sending angels down here for investigations.”

I spoke up, “So that would make sense for an angel to live down here as a human. They want to investigate who is the rogue without scaring them away then going after Emma is just a convenience.”

Emma sighed, “Great so that means I also have angels that look like everyday people coming to kill me too.”

I grabbed her hand, “They won’t come near you.”

Larus reached over the stove and set the picture into the flame, “Yes that is true. This angel isn’t our problem as his body is gone but, there is still a rogue angel out there. Probably in this town if this angel was here investigating. Even though it is rogue and not siding with the angels, it is still a threat. We don’t know who it is siding with… We need to be on the lookout and watch over Emma. She won’t be safe without us near her.”

Emma nodded, “I have work tomorrow. I can’t quit my job. Andy needs me there.”

“All three of us will fly into town with you and stay there while you work.”

The flames from the burning picture reflected in Elijah’s gold eyes as he let his evil out, “I really despise angels these days.”
