Emma: The Forgotten Luna

Chapter 48

Matteo’s words knocked the air out of Olivia. Gasping, she shook her head not able to digest the information which he just threw at her, “What do you mean? D-Don’t tell me she’s a-”

“Mystical and hypothetical creature. Indeed, she is one amongst them.” Matteo affirmed, the solemn look on his face confirmed to her that he was not bluffing.

“N-No. That’s not possible.” Olivia murmured and stumbled backward.

Her eyelids felt heavy and a searing pain constricted her chest. Matteo quickly grabbed her when she started wheezing. Her lungs got choked and she felt her heartbeat tapering.

“Mom!! Mom, open your eyes.” Matteo blabbered in fear and slightly patted her cheek.

Damien was not at all interested in this drama. But Olivia’s reaction whetted his curiosity. What got her this numb?

He then directed his gaze at David. Shock marred his face when he noticed his composed demeanor. David was simply eyeing Olivia who was struggling to breathe with cold eyes. There wasn’t even a single trace of concern on his face.

“Z-Z-my c-chil-” Olivia whispered in a broken voice before surrendering to darkness. Matteo sighed heavily when her body went limp in his arms, her head resting on his chest. Scooping her in his arms, he placed her mother on the couch. He then quickly grabbed a cushion and placed it below her head making sure to lay her comfortably.

Crouching beside her, Matteo cleared the tears on her face with his slender fingers and caressed her forehead.

“So, you knew everything?” David asked him.

No sooner he said that a thick tension sprawled over the room which Damien could feel as well.

Matteo gazed at her mother’s unconscious form for the longest time before letting out a scoff.

“As if you didn’t.” He snapped and turned his head to his father.

Damien who was staring at them gaped in shock. He couldn’t believe his ears. They both fucking knew about Emmaline.

‘How is this possible? Em never revealed her secret. She never befriended anyone nor had any acquaintances. She had so perfectly hidden her identity and survived for so long that too all alone.’

Random thoughts inundated his mind.

Shifting his eyes back to the front, he found Matteo who breathed a cold sigh and stood up on his feet. Running a hand through his disheveled hair, he looked up and shot a death glare at David who met his heated gaze head-on.

“You knew.” Gnashing his molars, Matteo grated and stalked over to him like a raging bull, “You knew that she was the one that’s why you wanted to get her. I fucking failed to pinpoint why you were so eager to hire her. Why the hell my Dad who is a billionaire was running behind a girl and luring her with stupendous and lucrative benefits.”

David didn’t even bat an eyelid at his outburst, “So what? You desire her, don’t you? Whatever our motives are, we both will benefit from it at the end of the day.” he answered him with a shrug and turned around.

“I WOULD NEVER MARRY THAT FUCKING BITCH!! YOU KNOW I HATE THEM. THEIR KIND, THOSE DISGUSTING VARMINTS REPULSE ME TO NO EXTENT!! I CAN’T EVEN DESCRIBE HOW MUCH I HATE THEM!!”

Matteo suddenly bellowed. Damien clenched his jaw, refraining from breaking his bone. If he wanted, he could easily snap their necks like twigs and get rid of them but this wasn’t his motive for coming here. He had come with a purpose to know their cruel intentions and beware his mate.

When Matteo received no response, he grabbed the vase kept on the table and threw it on the wall that David was facing.

David exhaled loudly. Ambling to the wooden chest, he pulled a drawer.

“You do know Matt that I don’t act recklessly. My intentions of making you approach her and win her heart were posited on my years of research.” He asserted while his hands were busy shuffling the pile of documents kept in the drawer.

Removing a red file, he turned around and handed it to Matteo.

“What’s this?” Matteo snapped at him while scowling at the file in his hand.

“The answer to your questions.” David told him, “We don’t know what really were those creatures who were involved in the attack but at least this will make you understand my motives.”

Inhaling a deep breath, he continued, “I have spent my whole life gleaning the information which could help me reach that culprit. Emmaline will be our key to finding them, Matt. I know you hate her but to get the justice we need her.” He said and waited for Matteo to hold the file but he didn’t move a single muscle.

David felt anger surging through his veins. He was very patiently trying to drub his opinions in his mind but Matteo was avid for revenge.

Huffing out loud, Matteo jerked back from his hold and shot him a teary glare, “Just for your vengeance, you reduced me to a puppet. You doubting my capabilities has diminished my confidence, Dad.“, he yapped and wiped off the lone tear that left his eye harshly, “Only if you had permitted me, I would have straightaway dug out the whole truth from her and-”

“Your ham-handed ways are what sets me off, Matt.” David finally lost his composure and screeched. He was done explaining to him.

“Let bygones be bygones. She served herself on the silver platter. That witch is willing to douse the fire that is burning in your heart for ages. So, just-”

“WHO ARE YOU??”

The father-son duo flinched hearing a raging growl. One of the guards spotted a bulky figure on the third floor who was none other than Damien. Sᴇaʀch Thᴇ FɪndNøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Shit” Damien cursed and quickly turned his face before returning to the redwood. With stealthy and careful steps, he clambered on the branches and jumped off the boundary wall, not even giving them time to react.

“Fucking catch him now.”

David ran outside while screaming at his guards who were watching the scene like onlookers. Prolly, petrified and shocked to see a human who jumped off a boundary wall that was roughly 15ft from the ground.

Hearing his scream, they jumped back to action but by then Damien had successfully disappeared into the woods.
