Chapter 5 You Knew Each Other?
Just then, the door was opened from the outside and Don Gibson had returned home. Don changed his shoes and walked straight into the kitchen without paying attention to what was happening in the living room. Allison shuddered as after talking for such a long time, she had forgotten to inform him. "President Parker, I..." She approached Alexander and spoke with a soft voice.
As she met his cold eyes, she immediately realized she had addressed him wrongly, yet she could not address her own boss by his name at the moment no matter how. She then pretended she did not notice anything and continued. "I haven't told my parents that we have gotten the marriage certificate." Hearing her words, Alexander did not show any fluctuation of emotion. He only nodded lightly to show he was informed.
"And..." Allison continued yet Don suddenly showed up behind her and interrupted her speech. "Oh Alice! Are we having a guest?" His deep and resonant voice shocked her so much that her heart was in her mouth. She turned and was about to complain, yet remembering Alexander was still at the scene, she said to Don while wearing a fake smile. "Dad, welcome back!" She then walked towards his side flatteringly and took the briefcase from his hand.
As Allison was ready to introduce Alexander to her father, Don walked past her and went straight towards Alexander. "Alex? Why did you come?" Alexander stood up and stooped a little while greeting him. "Hi sir." Compared to Don's hyperactive behavior, Alexander was always in a composed manner. It seemed like nothing could agitate or trigger him.
Don pulled him over and sat down. Without even lifting his head, he said to Allison, "Hurry up and take my Tieguanyin tea out.”
"You..." You knew each other? Allison was made a little baffled by the situation before her. Seeing her father acting like he had reunited with an old friend, it was obvious she could not interrupt their conversation. She could then only take the Tieguanyin tea out which was Don's personal collection and brewed the tea in the kitchen.
"Mom, dad seems to know Pre... Alexander Parker." Although the name Alexander Parker was not difficult to pronounce, she still found it difficult to adapt herself to say it. Jennifer was cleaning the prawns. Hearing her daughter's words, she stopped what she was doing and glanced outside the kitchen, seeing Don's happy face. She turned back and muttered. "Yeah. He seems to know him."
Jennifer did not tell Don about organizing a blind date for their daughter. When she told him the guy their daughter met in the blind date was going to have a dinner with them, she was even scolded. Now it turned out they knew each other after all. Having thought of that, Jennifer's smile grew wider and wider.
The moment Alexander entered their house, she had grown fonder towards him the more she looked at him. Composure and elegance were the top criteria for the son-in-law in her heart. She was on cloud nine that she hummed a tune without even caring Allison who was in a daze at the side.
Allison carried the brewed tea and once again returned to the living room. Don was discussing some academic questions with Alexander and Allison did not understand them at all. She could only stay at the side embarrassingly like an accessory. When Don was talking about the most exciting part, he actually brought Alexander into the study room and after closing the door, nothing could be heard from inside. Allison puckered up her lips and could only help her mom in the kitchen.
After around half an hour, the dishes were all ready and placed on the table. After making full preparations, Allison knocked the door of the study room and asked them to come out and eat. The dining table of the Gibson family was round and there was always an amicable atmosphere when they sat around it. Yet there was a slight change in the atmosphere today.
Maybe it was due to the natural aura Alexander possessed, he had transformed a usual dinner tonight to a high-class banquet. Allison who was sitting at the side uncontrollably straightened her back and placed both of her hands on her lap.
It was only then did Don remember introducing Alexander. "Jennifer, Alice, Alex is the one I always mentioned to you before, the student that makes me proud the most." Allison looked at Alexander in astonishment. He was actually the student her father always mentioned! The famous senior who excelled in everything and had won many trophies and awards! She instantly admired him as if he was a god. Having heard of that, Jennifer was full of the joys of spring. She initially wanted to pick some dish for Alexander, yet seeing his aloof expression and deep eyes, she felt reserved and did not know where to start. She then said to him with a smile, "Come help yourself."
Upon hearing her words, Alexander nodded at her and replied blandly. "Thank you, ma'am." He used the chopsticks gracefully and without effort, resembling a noble, and that made Allison, who still could not use chopsticks properly, embarrassed.
Thinking about finishing the soup first, Allison stood up and held the bowl up. Yet it was at that time that Jennifer was sharp-eyed enough to spot the ring on her finger. Jennifer instantly threw a glance at Alexander's hand and saw an exact same ring as expected. "Allison Gibson, this ring..." She grabbed Allison's hand and her eyes went between Allison and Alexander. "Both of you...?"
Being caught red-handed, Allison resembled a small chick which was being held in a life-and-death situation and she tossed Alexander a stressed-out look for help. She then watched Alexander calmly putting down his chopsticks, arranging them properly and slowly lifting his head. He spoke with a bland yet serious tone of voice. "Sir, ma'am, Alice and I have gotten married."☐☐
