Chapter 95
Chapter 95
Charles was sure that Quinlyn would not let anything happen to him,
Sure enough, even though Quinlyn was furious at Charles for snubbing her, she did not want him to suffer Ragnar’s wrath right now.
She quickly interjected. “It’s true, Mr. Levine. Charles happened to run into Josephine today and decided to talk to her. He tried to apologize to Ms. Yeager for what happened the last time, but she refused to hear him out and caused a mild dispute between them.”
There were surveillance cameras that must have captured her whole exchange with Charles earlier, but Josephine did not have any evidence at hand to prove that Quinlyn and Charles were lying. Her words meant nothing
They were on Frances‘ turf right now. In any case, Ragnar would not make a scene here by teaching Charles a lesson.
Having come to Charles‘ place, Quinlyn glanced at Josephine and said, “Ms. Yeager, I hope you’ll forgive Charles for what he did. He’s really sorry about
it.”
Despite the circumstances, Josephine nearly sputtered in bitter amusement when she heard this.
“They are meant for each other,” she thought in disgust as she gazed at Quinlyn and Charles.
It was almost impressive how they could make up nonsense without batting an eye.
Just as Josephine was about to speak, Ragnar looked at her and asked, “Is that true?”
Naturally, he did not believe Quinlyn and Charles for even a second.
At this sight, Quinlyn hastily piped up again, “Of course, it’s true, Mr. Levine! Charles had crossed the line the last time and already apologized to Ms. Yeager for it. Why don’t we just put this behind us and call it a day for the Lambert family?” If Ragnar were to find out the truth of what happened just now, she and Charles would have hell to pay when they got home later.
As things were, she had no choice but to use the Lambert family as her shield in hopes of appeasing Ragnar. Otherwise, knowing Ragnar, he would undoubtedly defend Josephine.
Josephine, on the other hand, could tell from Quinlyn’s statement that the Lambert family was a formidable force.
She did not want Ragnar to rub anyone wrong over something as petty as this. More importantly, they were on somebody else’s turf, and they would be wise not to stir up any unnecessary trouble here.
As such, she stopped Ragnar before he could speak and said, “Come on, Ragnar, let’s go.”
She tugged on his clothes to try to make him leave with her, but Ragnar seemed to think otherwise. Seeing this, Josephine leaned closer to him and whispered in his ear. “We’re guests here. There’s no need to get into a fight.”
Ragnar lowered his gaze and saw the pleading look in Josephine’s eyes.
How could a woman be so kind?
“Don’t let me catch you bothering her the next time, because I guarantee you will not walk away from me unscathed, Ragnar bit out icily as he glowered at Charles, then left with Josephine.
It was only after the couple left that Charles and Quinlyn let out sighs of relief. They had been terrified that Ragnar would get to the bottom of things
That being said, Quinlyn was somewhat pleased to see that Josephine did not seem to mean much to Ragnar, after all.
To think, for a moment, she had believed that Ragnar actually did care for that woman,
“As if you could ever steal my man, Josephine,” she thought contemptuously.
Catching the malicious gleam ip Quinlyn’s eyes, Charles threatened, “Don’t even think about hurting Josephine, or you’ll get what’s coming for you.”
With that, he spun on his heels and left.
Quinlyn gritted her feeth and snapped after him, “Don’t forget who gave you everything you have right now, Charles!”
She couldn’t believe how shameless he was. He had used her to get everything he wanted, and now, he wanted to toss her aside. “Damn it!” she cursed inwardly.
Nevertheless, she could not help loving him, as twisted as that was.
Meanwhile, inside the car, Ragnar looked grim and thunderous.
Josephine could tell that he was fuming. She lowered her head and looked up at him through her lashes, then muttered, “Ragnar, Charles was the one who aggravated me but seeing as you brought me here as your plus one, I didn’t want you to start a fight with him over me.”
Ragnar’s tone was cutting as he said, “The next time you see him, just slap him without a second thought.”
Under normal circumstances, Ragnar would never say such things, which meant that he was outraged.
With no small amount of frustration, he wondered when Josephine would finally learn to stand up for herself.
If he had not shown up in time after seeing Charles pester her, she would have surely allowed the man to get away with it.

Ragnar thought that it was high time he taught Charles a hard lesson. “I’ll show him what happens when he bothers my woman,” he thought sullenly.
The moment Josephine heard what Ragnar said, she gaped at him in shock. She could not believe that he had suggested violence as a solution
“What? Are you telling me that you can’t slap him?” he asked dryly
“No, it’s not that,” Josephine denied with a shake of her head.
“if you really do run into him again, just do as I say and slap him. Don’t worry about getting into trouble with him, because he wouldn’t touch you as long as I’m there, Ragnar said gravely.
For some reason, his reassurance warmed Josephine.
She broke into a smile, then eyed him meaningfully as she said, “Thank you, Ragnarl”
“Stop thanking me already” Ragnar pointed out, his gaze sharp.
Josephine knew that Ragnar did not like it when she thanked him, so she quickly countered, “It’s not my fault that you said such sweet things. You make it too easy for me to thank you.”
She meant it.
There were times when it seemed as if Ragnar could not care less about helping her, but in truth, all he needed to do was speak and the problem would solve itself.
Noticing that he was still unhappy about this, Josephine added promptly, “I promise that there won’t be a next time.”
Ragnar raised a brow and retorted, “And what if there is?”
Josephine replied, “Then you can do whatever you want”
“Fine, then, I demand early compensation for what happened today, and I want it tonight.”
Josephine blushed when she heard this and lowered her head shyly. “Don’t just say it so casually when we’re in someone else’s company.”
As though on cue, the driver piped up, “Don’t worry, Mrs. Levine. I didn’t hear anything at all.”
Josephine fell speechless at the driver’s unhelpful response.
Embarrassed, Josephine wished a hole would open up in the ground and swallow her.
“See what you did?” Josephine lightly hammered Ragnar’s chest with her fist and glared out the window.
She rolled down the window and hoped that the breeze would cool the heat on her face.
She was only trying to regain her composure, but to Ragnar, her flustered state made her even more adorable.
He enjoyed their little interactions.
At the thought of this, a small smile tugged on his lips.
The neon lights flickered and shone above them, and the scenery, along with the silhouettes of the pedestrians, blurred as the car continued down the
road.
Ragnar’s dark gaze softened as he stared at the woman next to him, and his heart swelled.
Ever since Josephine came into his life, he started to realize what “home” truly meant.
He vowed to protect her. As long as he was around, he would not let her suffer..
A while later, Ragnar’s pleasant voice broke the silence in the car as he said to the driver, “To the restaurant.”
“Yes, sir,” the driver responded dutifully.
Hearing this, Josephine turned to look at him in bewilderment. “Why are we going to the restaurant?”
Ragnar eyed her in amusement and asked, “Aren’t you hungry?”
This made her light up with a smile. “I am,” Josephine replied.
She did not expect him to have paid such close attention to her as to know that she had not eaten.
As though he had read her mind, Ragnar soon said, “I haven’t eaten anything, either.”
When he had arrived at the banquet just now, he did not get to come close to the food section before the investors swarmed up to him like moths to a Name.
Josephine was a little astonished to hear this. Nonetheless, it did not change the fact that he was considerate.
The car rolled to a slow halt as the driver pulled up outside the mall. Soon, a woman dressed in business attire and high heels made her way toward
them.
She courteously handed Ragnar a bag, which he then passed to Josephine as he said, “Here.”

“For me?” Josephine asked in surprise, pointing to herself.
Ragnar appraised her cursorily. “You don’t actually plan on heading to dinner while looking like that, do you?”
It was only then that Josephine realized what he was talking about.
She laughed a little self–consciously and said, “You’ve really thought this through, huh?”
“Get changed,” he simply replied as he and the driver alighted the car to give her some privacy
Josephine stared at Ragnar for a few seconds, moved by his warm and gentlemanly gesture.
She humedly changed out of her dress.
When she was done, Ragnar and the driver got back into the car. The next second, they resumed their journey to the restaurant.
Their arrival at the restaurant caused quite a stir.
Presently, there were two people seated at the comer of the restaurant, and one of them lit up happily at the sight of Josephine and Ragnar entering the premises.
