Chapter 94
Chapter 94
Hearing this, Josephine appraised Frances for a moment, then shook her head and asked, “Mr. Caddel, did you mistake me for somebody else?”
Today was the first time Josephine had seen him in person, and she was certain that she did not know Frances at all before this.
Frances seemed disappointed with her response. “Doesn’t matter,” he thought with grim determination. Finding her was a good start, he could work on jogging her memory after this.
With that in mind, he flashed her a smile and said, “Maybe I did. You look a lot like the person I’m looking for.”
“Oh, I see” Enlightened, Josephine nodded, then returned his smile as she added encouragingly, “I’m sure you’ll find the person you’re looking for soon, Mr. Caddel.”
“Thank you,” he said heartily.
Josephine made no reply after that and merely gave him another smile.
“Here you are, Frances! I’ve been looking for you everywhere!”
Just then, a woman approached them.
She was stunned when she saw Josephine sitting next to Frances. The woman was none other than Quinlyn…
She and Frances were school alumni, and both of them were invited here today.
Quinlyn did not expect to run into Josephine today, much less see her sit side by side with Frances.
The thought that Josephine was Charles‘ ex–girlfriend made Quinlyn grit her teeth in hatred. “What is she doing here with you, Frances?” she
demanded.
The worst part was that Charles could not forget or move on from Josephine at all.
He could be sleeping in the same bed as Quinlyn and still be thinking about Josephine. He would even mumble her name in his sleep!
If it weren’t for the fact that Quinlyn’s standing in the Lambert family was still shaky, she would have done everything in her might to get rid of Josephine.
“Charles is mine!” Quinlyn thought angrily.
Frances glanced up at Quinlyn and asked, “What, do you girls know each other or something?”
“Sort of,” Quinlyn replied acerbically.
She hated Josephine, but she did not want to make a scene today.
She silently vowed to get rid of Josephine after she had secured her footing in the Lambert family.
“Well, have fun, you guys. I’ll be leaving now,” Josephine said. She did not want to see Quinlyn. In fact, she had no interest in being around anyone associated with Charles. They were no better than crooks, and all of them were bad news.
Frances was about to stop Josephine from leaving, but ultimately did not when he saw that she had already walked away.
“How do you know Josephine, Frances?” Quinlyn asked.
“I’ve only just met her,” Frances replied.
After hearing this, Quinlyn immediately warned, “You have to watch out for her. Don’t be fooled by her looks.”
She had no qualms about tarnishing Josephine’s reputation now that she knew Frances had only just met her.
However, Frances frowned in displeasure at this remark. He refused to let anyone badmouth Josephine. In an icy tone, he asked, “Care to elaborate?”
Quinlyn was more than happy to. “Josephine is Charles‘ ex–girlfriend, but she was caught having an affair with some other guy while they were dating”
All in all, she did not like seeing anyone around her get close to Josephine.
Frances obviously did not believe her. “Really?”
The girl he wanted to protect was sweet and kind, incapable of doing something so scandalous.
“Of course. I mean, you can always ask Charles if you don’t believe me,” Quinlyn said, doubling down on her words.
“Fine, then,” Frances said nonchalantly. “I have to go now. See you around.”
Having said that, he left. He did not want to hear anyone slander Josephine.
His reaction irked Quinlyn to no end.
At that moment, she caught a glimpse of Charles‘ silhouette. She was just about to call out to him when she saw him go in Josephine’s direction.
Quinlyn clenched her fists at the sight of this. “Damn you, Charles!” she thought menacingly.

Chapter 94
Josephine happened to walk past the food section after she walked away from Frances and Quinlyn. Presently, she did not hesitate to grab some pastries and cakes before staking out a seat for herself
She was still looking around when someone darted out to grab her arm. A voice that made her cringe in disgust filled her ears next. “Josephine, what are you doing here? Are you here with Ragnar?”
Josephine shrugged off the person’s grip when she heard his voice, and her expression grew frosty.
It seemed as if Charles was a shadow she could not shake off. He was peskier than she thought.
Ignoring him, she turned around to leave
Naturally, Charles did not have the decency to let her walk away. He pressed on, “Do you think Ragnar loves you, Josie? Are you so dense that you’ve convinced yourself a man as superior as him would fall for someone like you? You didn’t come from money, and you’re of no worth to him! He only sees you as a plaything!”
In his stubbornness, he added, “You should break up with him as soon as possible, or you’ll regret this for sure. Come on, Josie, you know that I’ve only ever wanted…”
“Charles, what are you doing here?” Quinlyn’s shrill voice cut him off.
When he registered Quinlyn’s presence, Charles bit out, “You’d better stay out of my business.”
Gritting her teeth so hard that they could turn to dust, Quinlyn snapped, “You’re my fiancé! Your business is my business, too!” With that, she turned to glower at Josephine and snarled, “I knew you were a bitch from day one! Must you hook up with every man you see?”
“Ms. Ziegler, if you’re only going to spew nonsense, I suggest you keep your mouth shut for good,” Josephine retorted icily.
Quinlyn’s hostility was a result of Charles‘ behavior.
It was funny how Quinlyn could not even keep her man under control and still blamed others for it.
“Am I wrong? I saw you flirting with Frances earlier, Quinlyn argued.
Charles flew into a rage when he heard this. “I didn’t think you’d go that far, Josephine! And after all, I did for you, too!”
Josephine was so angry that she sputtered at this. She seemed to be running into the most perplexing characters recently.
“You have no right to say that to me, Charles,” she grumbled mockingly.
“Don’t I? You’ve let me down, Josephine.”
It was bad enough that she got together with Ragnar, but now, she was seen flirting with Frances, too. How was Charles supposed to cope with that?
He had put in so much effort in order to build a good future for Josephine and himself. He wanted to give her a better life.
However, much to his dismay, she had put him down and chosen to hang around some other men.
If it weren’t for the fact that Ragnar was here, Charles would have dragged Josephine away and taught her a hard lesson.
In short, he would not give up on Josephine that easily.
“None of this has anything to do with you, Charles. Don’t show up in front of me ever again,” Josephine snapped thunderously.
She could not believe she had once dated someone as conceited and deluded as Charles.
Josephine would have slapped him if it weren’t for her fear of causing a scene.
She had only just turned around when she found herself stumbling into a warm embrace.
Josephine did not even have to look to see whose embrace it was; she recognized the familiar scent immediately.
Presently, the air around Ragnar grew cold, and his gaze was dark and malicious. One look from him was enough to send chills down any person’s
spine.
Charles could not help but be intimidated when he saw the stormy look on Ragnar’s face.
“It seems as if you did not heed my warning at all; Ragnar said stonily.
His patience was already at its limit after he was surrounded by the incessant chattering from the crowd just now. Ragnar would have lost his temper had he not restrained himself and acted civilized for Frances‘ sake.
When he finally escaped the crowd only to see Josephine get pestered by Charles, he became even more aggravated.
Although he did not hear their conversation, he could tell Josephine was infuriated by the look on her face.
*This annoying pest keeps bothering my woman!” he thought, directing all his animosity at Charles.
“No, Mr. Levine,” Charles quickly denied. “I was only trying to apologize for what i did the last time.”
He was a bald–faced liar.
