Chapter |2|
I’m sitting in my family's private jet waiting for my two dumb best friends to join me. They're always late and I hate it. I’m the future Alpha after my father retires and they are my future Beta and delta. We need to be on time. I really want to get to this mating camp and make a fool out of Scott.
Scott is the future Alpha of The Red Diamond pack. We have a treaty with them which is good because their the second largest and strongest pack after mine. The pack also neighbors us being only an hour away or shorter if you take a shortcut through the woods.
But Scott and I have always had issues with each other. We're both very competitive and he already texted me telling me how he was going to beat me at all the events and how he's the better Alpha. Every other Alpha fears me except him.
I was given the nickname of Killer Kai after a rogue attack on my pack and I took out ten rogue wolves by myself when I was fifteen. Unlike others, I kill first and ask questions later. At first, I hated the nickname. I didn’t want to be known as a monster or killer. But seeing people cower around me puts my wolf at ease.
Alpha Scott doesn’t cower around me but he also happens to be my cousin. I would beat Scott senselessly when I see him but I promised my father I would be on my best behavior at camp. I tend to get angry easily and always have. Recently at training, I broke a few warrior's arms and that’s why my dad pushed me to go on vacation.
I wanted to go to Hawaii or Italy but my dumb friends convinced me to go to the mating camp with them. I’ll be eighteen in a few days and my friends want me to find my mate. They think once I find her it will calm me down but nothing will. I have a darkness in me. A feeling that half my soul has already been ripped away from me.
All I feel is rage now. I'm violent and temperamental. I hope if I do find my mate she can handle me. I haven’t felt happiness in a long time. Not since she left......
She was my best friend, Avery. We had been friends since we were toddlers. We did everything together. From hanging out at the park together, eating lunch and dinner at the pack house, and staying up late watching movies.
But one day she was just gone. I don’t even remember her saying goodbye. I just went to knock on her door to ask her if she wanted to go get ice cream when I found her bedroom door open.
The room was empty. All of her stuff was gone and her scent had been wiped away. I ran to her parents' room and it was the same. I was so distraught I had a full meltdown. I went to my room and destroyed everything.
No one could stop me I was on a war path. My father finally showed up and used his Alpha command to calm me down. He explained Avery and her family had moved away. That they didn’t want to be a part of our pack anymore and I wasn’t allowed to contact them.
Her leaving hurt and I decided then not to let another girl get close to me. Friends or not I wouldn’t trust them. Some girls think they can change me but they can’t. Luckily most are too afraid to approach me.
Running my hand through my wavy black hair my golden brown eyes spot my two friends finally entering the cabin of the plane. “Where the hell have you idiots been, I told you I wanted to arrive early!” I yell and they bow their heads in submission.
“Sorry Kai, Lance here had to say goodbye to Laura, or was it Linda? I had to wait in my car for him to finish.” Matt laughs and sits in the seat across from me.
“Why are you still hooking up with all these she-wolves Lance? You could find your mate at the camp and then you will have to explain why you've been with another girl.” I shake my head in disgust.
Lance sits beside Matt and starts laughing. “Sorry bro we can’t all be perfect like you and wait for our mate. Some of us want to have some fun first. Plus her name was Andrea!” he punches Matt in the shoulder and he hits him back.
“Don't say us I want no part of this.” Matt holds his hands up in the air to surrender.
“Hey I have needs also man but I just have this feeling I should wait, plus my wolf gets turned away from other she-wolves,” I admit even though it’s embarrassing. Most Alphas don’t wait we do whatever we want with no consequences. Not to mention all girls want to be a Luna and throw themselves at us. But I just can’t do it.
“Maybe your mate is a man.” Lance laughs and Matt punches his shoulder.
“I like women jackass, I just want that special one.” I bite my lip and try to think of the perfect mate.
“She is special if she puts up with you.” Matt jokes and Lance laughs with him.
My best friends are so immature. I kick both of them under the table in the leg hard and they yelp in pain. Smiling in satisfaction I lay my head back and think of my mate.
Most wolves can sense their mate after they turn eighteen but being of Alpha blood I should have been able to sense her after my first shift at thirteen. My mate might not have been able to sense it yet but I would know and I have been disappointed ever since hoping I would have met her by now.
I have been to at least fifty different packs since I started shadowing my dad when I turned fourteen and I still haven’t found her. My dad wants me to choose a Luna. Which really means he chooses a Luna for me, but I refuse. I told my father I would rather be mateless. I want my fated mate whoever she is.
I haven’t been sleeping well the last few nights. My wolf Titan has been restless and we have been taking midnight runs just to tire ourselves out enough to sleep. My wolf is anxious and wants to meet our mate fast. I feel the same but fate can’t be rushed. I can only hope the moon goddess will deliver her soon. If I’m lucky this year will be the one.
