Destroyer

Chapter 8

~5 Years later~

“Aah! Destroyer!” Caroline jumped onto her teal and blue bed and screamed out. She had long curly hair and her eyes were a yellowish hazel.

“Yes yes? Yes?” Destroyer slid in front of her door room and his eyes were wines. Caroline turned her head right to him and crossed her arms. She was wearing blue jeans and a purple shirt with ruffles.

“There is a tarantula in the corner of my room... I believe it’s yours.” Destroyer turned to the corner and walked into her room.

“Oh! He’s been missing for a couple of days…” He dropped down and picked up the normally sized tarantula.

“He found his way to my room and it’s disgusting!” She hopped off of her bed and swung her hair back behind her looking at the male.

“I will go put him back. Are you ready to go?” He asked her and she nodded. She, her mother and Destroyer was going to the mall for back to school clothes. Destroyer had always been her best friend for the past five years and she has always kept it that way. She never found out about the mate connection to him, but she did know that mates existed and thought that Destroyer would never have one since he was a Hellhound.

When she found out she decided she was going to stay by his side and hoped that he would too, as a best friend.

“Destroyer?” She asked him as he was putting his pet tarantula back inside its glass box.

“Yeah?” He turned to her and walked out of the room closing the door.

“I want you to know something because you’re my best friend.” She placed her hand on her hips and furrowed her brows.

“Yes? What is that?”

“You re my best friend. Now... I know this is hard for you to hear. But I’m a smart ten years old going on to be eleven so technically I'm close to being a teenager.” He looked around and nodded.

“Yes…?” He asked and she sighed.

“I know you want the best for me so. I will promise you that I won’t meet my mate till you meet yours.” He gave her a look of question and tilted his head.

“Right.” He told her and she gasped.

“What do you mean right? I’m your best friend you better listen to me.” She spits in her hand and extended it.

“Promise?” She asked and he sighed. He did the same and shook hers.

“Promise.” It was a little thing she had watched on the tv when she was seven and she made promises that way to the only Destroyer and pinkie promises to others. They wiped their hands and walked down to the stairs and her mother was looking through her purse for her keys.

“Got it.” She looked up to see them and smiled. Charlie had been more compassionate towards him and he enjoyed it, sometimes she would get agitated, but he considered it to be okay compared to the alternative.

“You guys ready?” She asked and they both nodded.

“I call shotgun!” She yelled and ran out of the house to the car to her side of the door. He looked at Charlie and shrugged. Archie had been out of town for a couple of days and would be back soon, he had more out of town stuff to do in the past two years and it left Charlie, Caroline and Destroyer alone for a while.

He hopped in the back seat and watched as Charlie started up the car and Caroline messed with the radio.

“Mommy? May I borrow your phone, please?” She asked politely and Charlie handed her--her phone. Caroline entered the password and went to her mother's music app and looked for her playlist.

“Destroyer you want out song?” She asked him and he nodded. “Yes please.” He told her and she searched through the list.

“A thousand miles by Vanessa Carlton!” She showed him the video star and placed the phone beside her mother. The song played and they both air piano played with her and mouthed and sang to the song. Charlie watched Caroline for a second before turning her eyes to the road.

Only a week ago Caroline discovered her first period and she told Archie so what time they spend together has to officially always be watched. There was never something truly triggering to set off his mate attraction or anything else.

As they got to the mall, Destroyer had looked out the window and awe. His favorite place was the mall. He always volunteered to go to the mall with them. He especially loved the pet stores that would be inside. There were never really any dogs considering the population of the town was a werewolf, but there were cats, birds, and his favorite, ferrets.

“Don’t worry Destroyer. We’ll get to go to the et store after we get some clothes.” She reassured him. He hopped out of the car and opened her car door for her and she bowed.

“Thank you, kind sir.” She walked to her mother’s side and held her hand. When she would be going to school for the past five years, it would always make him sad. Sad that he didn’t have anyone to really hang out with. Even then he still did babysitting for the majority of the people around the packed house so it kept him occupied.

Now, when thinking of her leaving home for eight hours a day had squeezed his heart and he felt even sadder that she was going. School would be starting in two weeks and he couldn’t help, but get worse each day it would come. It was unusual for him.

“I heard Jughead is starting school! He’s such a cute baby.” Caroline smiled big and destroyer hummed.

“He is. He won’t be joining me and the other kids anymore...They grow up so fast.” He commented and Caroline giggled.

“You sound like daddy. I hope he’s here for my first day. All three of you are going to drop me off again right?”

“Of course sweetheart. Wouldn’t miss it for the world.” Charlie lightly squeezed her hand and the three of them entered the mall. Others waved at them and of course, gradually would eye Destroyer time to time.

He was never intentionally making others gawk at him, he didn’t feel any certain way about it, but maybe once or twice some other male wolf and sometimes even a female wolf would get slightly jealous if someone glanced his way.

“Then you’ll come to my singing recitals like before and I’m even better!” She yelled out with a smile and skipped inside and looked around for her favorite stores.

“Now you can shop in crazy eight anymore okay? You’re getting too big for that store so we have to go to something else okay?” Caroline nodded and hummed as they walked around the mall for some stores. The first store they went in was Aeropostale where they picked out a couple of outfits and picked out some new converses from Journeys.

“Mommy? Can play at the playground thing?” Caroline watched as the playground area had a couple of kids and she loved to play at those things.

“Of course sweetheart. Just stay in sight of Destroyer., I’m going to the bathroom. Destroyer?” She looked at him and he added as he sat on the inside and watched as she climbed into the little tree place full of kids. He watched the others play around and saw that she was having fun.

He longed t feel what being a child was like. All he could remember was pain and suffering when it came before Archie and as much as he could, he couldn’t block it out of his head. It just hurt when he thought of it so he tries his best to forget it.

“What are you talking about?! You’re mad because he’s my real friend!” He came out of his dazed state and looked to his right. It was Caroline and a seemingly older boy around her age.

“You’re just a really creepy girl! You think because your big and tough you get to do whatever you want!” The boy walked up close to her and her eyebrows furrowed. It was clear she was ready to cry so Destroyer stood up.

“I’m not! I can make friends on my own!” She lightly tapped him on the shoulder and he pushed her down. She yelped causing parents to look up and Destroyers eyes furrowed. He soon found himself holding the boy by the back of his shirt.

“Ohh! Let me go!” He yelled and Destroyer blinked his eyes causing the world to go black. When in this state of mind the world around them stops and the only thing the two could see was darkness.

“Don't touch her again or you’ll make me want to do something I would very much forget.” He growled out to the boy and he nodded.

“I. Don't. Hear. You.” He growled and the by answered.

“I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I won’t touch her again!” He yelled out and soon enough he was placed down and he helped Caroline up. He glared at the boy and he dusted himself off.

“I’m sorry I pushed you it won’t happen again I’m sorry!” He said aloud and ran away from them.

“We should get going.” Caroline nodded and she grabbed onto his hand and pulled him to her mother who stood at the entrance of the play area.

“Destroyer what was…”He gave her hand back to her mother and he walked off.

“Let’s go home sweetheart.” Charlie continued to stare at Destroyer and the entire time hoe she continued to glare at him. Caroline said nothing out of embarrassment and when they got home he ran away into the woods and had shifted along the way.

“Mommy... I didn’t mean to make him angry…” Caroline watched as destroyer ran off and Charlie sighed.

“It's not that baby...We’ll ask him whats wrong when he gets back. Tell me what happened love.” Charlie had learned what happened from Caroline and realized what had happened. She had called Archie and told him that it was time and he would be home soon. Destroyer ended up running around the woods to the point he found himself tired and dropped against a tree. He wasn’t realizing what was happening to him, but he knew he had to leave.

He remembered that when it hit to a certain point to where he felt more protective of her that he would have to leave. Or if he thought of her in a certain way he had to leave. He didn’t want it to get to that point so today was official. He thought of times where she would get hurt and he would go so protective and didn’t know that it was because of it.

He didn’t know what it was like to be attracted and didn’t want to experience something like that when she was still a child. He found a clothes stash and fixed himself. It became really dark and he sensed that Archie was back home. He walked through the door and up to his room. He looked around for the longest time and knew that he was going to miss this room and her. Most of all Archie who became his first friend.

He sat awake in his room for the whole night until the morning. He didn’t want to wake Archie when he was sleeping so he waited till he was awake and met him in his office.

“Archie?” Destroyer knocked on his office door and he was told to come in.

“Destroyer...I heard about-”

“I have to leave.” Destroyer said without anything else leaving Archie speechless for a second.

“You said when I feel a certain way I have to leave. I don’t feel like that but I got so...angry yesterday and I have to leave. I don’t want to leave but I dont...i have to. I’ve been awake since last night and I’ve just had a bad feeling. I don’t know what is going to happen to me but... I’m gonna have to leave.”

He rambled on for a moment and looked at Archie. His eyes widened in realization and he went forward to him.

“You’re thinking of...actually leaving?”He clenched his jaw and he nodded. Archie didn’t think he would leave to another city or something, but just away from her. He clenched his jaw and walked up to him. Archie hugged him but then saw Caroline in the doorway.
