Chapter 29: Taking A Leap.
Adam Wick.
For the last two months after Nathan’s secret crept out of the dark, I’ve been asking—no, begging him for a date. All I wanted was a chance to show him how much I liked him. But no, he had to play hard-to-get. It was not as if I was planning on tying him up in the pack’s basement and do dirty things to him against his will.
“Well, that could be our backup plan if all fails.” Bane told me as I dodged one of Tyson’s punches.
I huffed and returned a punch, which Tyson easily blocked. ”Get your head out of the gutter, you dirty dog.”
“You thought about it first, creep.”
“Come on, man. You’re not even trying,” Tyson said, interrupting our conversation.
Suddenly, he ducked and swiped his left leg, kicking my legs out from underneath me. I landed on my back with a thud while the annoying monkeys on the bleachers cheered Tyson on. Traitors!
“You’re making it too easy for me to kick your ass.” Tyson held his hand out to me while smirking. “What’s the point of sparring with an airhead?”
An airhead!? I shot a glare back at him. I was so gonna kick his ass. After grabbing Tyson’s hand, I kicked him in the stomach, sending him flying toward the mat. He lay there, wheezing and gasping for air.
“That’s what you get for lowering your guard,” I said, laughing as I jumped to my feet.
After a few gasps of air, Tyson stumbled to his feet. “That was a cheap shot!”
“No, it wasn’t.”
Soon after, the fighting became a bloody affair. I needed to keep my toes on the fly; Tyson wasn’t holding back anymore. Any wrong move on my part would have put me in a world of hurt. I might have been an alpha, but Tyson wasn’t the next head enforcer for nothing. His father trained him to break wolves of any caliber. Let’s just say that Tyson’s father scared the blood out of my veins.
“Tired yet?” Tyson asked, wiping off blood that dripped from the open cut above his eyebrow.
I chuckled and said, “No, and you?”
After another trail of blood found its way into his eye, Tyson quickly licked his thumb and then coated the bleeding wound with his spit. The wound slowly sealed shut. That’s super-healing spit for you. Got to love it.
“Cheating, are we?”
“I wouldn’t call it cheating.” Tyson readjusted his shorts. “But if it’s the only way you can kick my ass by me fighting you blinded, then go ahead.”
The crowed oww’ed at his jab, followed by their childish snickering.
I then hit back. “Says the one who’s licking his wounds already.” Another bunch of ‘oww’s’ echoed out from the crowd, making me grin. Take that mutt.
In a moment of weakness or stupidity, my eyes wandered over toward Nathan. He stood well away from the crowd of gym-goers, next to his sister. Tyson took the opportunity and rushed forward, punching me in the face. I stumbled back, but it was too late. The next thing I knew, Tyson had my head trapped between his legs while he restrained my right arm. My eyes locked onto his smelly crotch. My stomach churned. The BO stinging my nostrils was the last straw. I couldn’t hold it out for long. I wasn’t willing to die from the fumes that wafted from his family jewels. The crowd roared as I tapped out.
“Way to go, dipshit. We lost to Tyson because you couldn’t keep your eyes off Nathan.” Bane grumbled and then retreated into the dark recesses of my mind.
He hated it when a lower-ranking wolf bested us. But strangely, it didn’t bother me. It was my fault for screwing around and not taking the sparring match seriously. I rolled as far away from Tyson as possible and scrambled to my feet. Dang, he stank!
“Sorry, bro. Better luck next time,” Tyson laughed while slapping me on the shoulder.
“Don’t get cocky, dickhead.” I kicked Tyson in the ass as he walked off toward his mate. “The only reason I gave in was because I didn’t want to die of gas poisoning. You should really go take a shower.”
Tyson turned around and flipped me off. “Maybe you should take your own advice. Swamp thing.”
Just as Tyson wanted to hug Maisie, she punched him in the stomach. “Don’t you dare touch me! You smell like a sweaty towel after an orgy.”
Nathan was the first one to keel over and laugh. His angelic laugh quickly riled the others into joining him.
Tyson blushed and whined, “Babe! Why did you have to do me like that?”
“No whining, or I’ll give you something to whine about.” Before Tyson could react, she grabbed him by his pleasure stick.
Every guy who was present grabbed his own nuts and guarded them with his hands. Nathan took two big steps away from his sister.
“Take that cute ass of yours and go take a shower. Or do I have to repeat myself?” She squeezed his button, causing Tyson to tiptoe around in pain.
“No, honey!” Tyson squealed. “I’ll get right on it.” He bit down on his lower lip, trying to fight back his tears.
“Good. This is the last time you try to hug me while you’re sweaty. Didn’t I warn you the last time what would happen?”
Tyson quickly nodded in agreement. “Yes, you did.”
Maisie released her grip and then patted Tyson on the head as he fell on his knees in front of her. Queen.
“Just do it quickly or I won’t kiss it better tonight,” she said, while a seductive smile flashed across her face.
The crowd started cheering and whistling while Tyson jumped to his feet and ran off toward the showers.
“That’s one crazy bitch.” Bane called out inside of my head.
I shook my head, chuckling at his comment. ”Glad you could make it.”
“What!? I wasn’t about to miss the chance to see the show.”
“Can anyone lend me a wet wipe, or Purell?” She asked the group while holding the hand that touched Tyson’s sweaty crotch away from her. “No?” The group shook their heads in unison. She then turned to Nathan. “Just wait here until I wash my hands.” She then took off.
After Maisie disappeared into the ladies’ restroom, I turned my attention to Nathan, who stood rooted on the spot, playing with his cellphone. Why did he even come here if he was going to stand around and do nothing? I scoffed and walked over to my bag. I grabbed the blue towel out of my gym bag and wiped the sweat from my face. Blood. Oh, no, my Nana was going to kill me for getting blood on the towel. Couldn’t this day get any worse? Wait, I didn’t want the answer to that. Just as I grabbed the handle of my bag, a hand wrapped around my wrist, sending a wave of goosebumps up my arm.
“Adam, wait. Can I talk to you?” Nathan asked.
I wanted so badly to gaze up into his coppery brown eyes, but I didn’t want to. His eyes were hypnotic. As much as I liked him, I couldn’t keep chasing after him. I wasn’t a lovesick puppy yipping at his heels, hoping to gain his attention. FORGODDESSSAKE! I was an Alpha!
I yanked my hand out of his grip and said, “I can’t.” That was a lie. “I have Alpha duties I need squared away.”
I backed away from him while Bane growled in my ears. “Don’t be stupid and give him a chance.”
“Just like he gave us?” I growled back at him. “I’m done chasing after him.”
Slinging my gym bag over my shoulders, I made my way toward the men’s bathroom. I had to give up on Nathan. I couldn’t force him to be with me and I couldn’t fight his fears for him. He had to take the leap. I’ve already done it and fallen flat on my face.

Nathan Underhill.
“I fucked up, didn’t I?”I asked Fenrus, anticipating his answer.
Fenrus huffed and disappeared into the back of my mind without saying a word. However, his silence cried out the truth of the fact that I pushed Adam away. I didn’t mean to hurt him. I was just scared, scared of losing the person I could see myself growing old with.
As Adam slumped off toward the restrooms, my chance at happiness slipped out of my grip with him.
“Nathan, grow a backbone and go get our man!” Fenrus pushed forward. ”You’re so afraid of grandfather taking Adam away from us—you’re doing it on your own! We can’t lose him, Nathan. Please! I can’t lose Bane,” Fenrus whined. He really hit it off with Adam’s wolf over the last couple of months. More so than I have with Adam.
Before my faint-hearted brain could catch up with my courageous heart, I bolted forward and ran up to Adam before he rounded the corner. My hands started sweating while my mouth dried up. I grabbed onto his shoulder and yanked him around. My heart hammered around in my ears. Licking my lips, my eyes landed on Adam’s plump lips. It was no or never. If he could take a chance on me, so could I.
Adam’s eyes narrowed. “Nathan, I’m not in the mood for th—”
I smashed my lips onto his, melting my arms around his neck. His eyes bulged for a second while his jaw clenched shut. I wasn’t kissing me back. Oh, fuck! What did I just do? I panicked and pulled back. Why the fuck did I think a kiss would solve this? He was going to hate me, thinking that I was playing with him. But after moving an inch away, Adam leaned forward and took over the kiss. Adam nibbled on my lower lip, asking for entrance, which I eagerly gave. I moaned. Hell! I could do this all day long. His tongue explored my mouth, flicking my tongue playfully, until we both ran out of oxygen.
Pressing my forehead to his, I panted while staring into his beautiful eyes. His iris’ flicked between gold and brown. No doubt Bane wanted in on the action, just as Fenrus fought against me for control.
“That’s not fair, you jackass! Give me some!” Fenrus whined while slamming against my mental barriers.
“As if...” I told him, earning a growl. ”If I let you take control, I’ll find myself bent over the nearest exercise bench with Adam’s ten incher ramming me senseless in front of a whole crowd of gym rats.”
Fenrus scoffed. ”You’re no fun.”
Before Adam could land on the ground from his high, I pressed my lips on his and stole another passionate kiss.
Adam chuckled and said, “Greedy, are we?” His eyes lingered on my lips.
“Says the one who’s ogling my lips.”
Before I could untangle my arms from Adam’s neck, he twisted us around and shoved me against the bathroom’s tiled wall. Slamming his lips on mine again. His hand grabbed onto my hips and slowly made their way to my ass. Whoa! Down, boy. I grabbed onto his wrists before he could get a squeeze in and removed them.
Breaking the kiss, I brought my lips to his ear and whispered, “Don’t get too cocky, big boy.” Adam growled. “You’ll have to earn the right to fondle my ass.”
Adam pulled back. In an instant, his eyes grew cold. “And how do I do that? You want nothing to do with me,” He groaned, scratching the stubble on his chin. “Stop playing with me and make up your fuckin’ mind. You can’t keep sending me these mixed signals.” Adam bent over and picked up the bag he dropped earlier.
He was about to walk off when I said,” I’m sorry for being a dick to you.”
“Just say it.” Fenrus pushed me to tell the truth.
“I’m scared alright,” I admitted.
“There, are you happy?”
“Not yet,” Fenrus replied.
Adam turned around and walked up to me. “About what?”
“Go on!”
I licked my lips. “I don’t want to lose you. You’re the best thing that has happened to me thus far. And the thought of my grandfather hurting you or, possibly killing you... I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if you got hurt because of me. I don’t care if it’s a cliché, but it’s how I feel.”
Adam, in a swift movement, pulled me into his smelly embrace. Good Goddess, he needed a shower. Even with that in mind, I tightened my hold and nestled my nose into the crook of his neck.
“I get it, I really do,” Adam told me. “But I’m not going anywhere and your grandfather can go fuck himself.”
I laughed. My laughter echoed out into the steamy locker-room. He was right, my grandfather could. I wanted the chance at happiness and if I had to fight for it, so be it.
“Adam?”
“Yeah?” His lips touched the nape of my neck. My nether region twitched in excitement.
“Will you go on a date with me?”
He kissed my neck, earning another moan from me. “Yes, I will.”
