Defeating My Ex-Husband by Tracy Estrada ( Colton Zeller )

Chapter 60

Chapter 60 What Are You Investigating Her For

It had been several days since Colton last left the mansion. Unable to contain herself any longer, Elsa personally prepared some soup and brought it to Zeller Group.

She had no idea that the receptionist would stop her from going upstairs!

In the past, Elsa would have likely demanded Colton to dismiss the receptionist immediately. However, ever since Colton exposed the truth about the child not being his, Elsa’s confidence had inexplicably shattered. Now, she could only gaze at Colton helplessly.

Colton didn’t receive her signal and asked calmly, “Why are you here?”

Elsa watched as the receptionist left with Timothy before quickly shifting her gaze to Colton. “You haven’t been home these past few days, so I specially made some soup for you.”

Upon hearing Elsa’s words, Colton seemed to be lost in a trance for a

moment.

It felt like ages ago when Cynthia used to diligently prepare soup for Colton, only to have him offer it to others without ever taking a sip himself.

“Colt?” Elsa looked at Colton curiously. “Don’t you like it?”

Colton was about to take it, but he hesitated. “I can’t drink it right now, so just leave it there.”

A hint of sadness flashed in Elsa’s eyes as she placed the thermos flask on the table and grabbed Colton’s hand. “Colt, what did I do wrong to make you treat me like this? I never wanted to get pregnant! I was forced against my wishes!”

Colton gave her a look. “Really? You’ve had countless opportunities to tell me, yet you never mentioned a word.”

“I’m just afraid that you’ll despise me, and I’m afraid of losing you. I…” Elsa tightly embraced Colton, her voice choked with sobs. “Do you still

remember when we were trapped there? After you left, I had to face the villain all by myself, and I was really terrified.”

Her words successfully made Colton stiffen up, and he stopped trying to push her away.

That incident had left an indelible mark on his heart, and it filled him with guilt toward Elsa.

He looked down slightly. “I’ve just been busy lately. Once things are settled, I’ll spend quality time with you.”

Elsa smiled joyfully and tightly hugged Colton’s arm. “I know you adore me! Just a few days ago. I saw a beautiful engagement dress. Why don’t we buy it?”

Colton didn’t show much enthusiasm and simply responded. “If that’s what you want.”;

Even so, it was enough to make Elsa overjoyed.

Immediately, she seemed to have thought of something and added. “Should we tell Grandpa about our engagement? I think he doesn’t like

me”

Previously, Colton had already discussed the matter with Phillip, so he didn’t think Phillip would object too much. After giving it some thought, Colton simply stood up and said. “Let’s go home now and talk to Grandpa about it.”

“Now?” Elsa was extremely surprised at how fast things were progressing.

It was clear that Colton was not joking, so she quickly agreed and returned to the Zeller residence with him.

Phillip’s expression turned dark when he saw Colton bringing Elsa home.

“What are you doing back here?” Phillip asked, remembering Colton’s previous honest confession. He didn’t have the heart to drive Elsa away.

Elsa was keen enough to notice the change in Phillip’s attitude. She hastily stepped forward and said sweetly, “Grandpa, Colt and I are about to get engaged. We hope you can give us your blessings.”

Phillip turned a deaf ear to her words, fixing his gaze on Colton.

Colton let out a soft sigh, “Grandpa.”

“Come with me to the study.” Phillip bluntly interrupted him and headed upstairs.

A hint of uncase appeared in Elsa’s eyes as she looked at Colton.

Colton patted her shoulder to comfort her. “I’ll go up to talk to Grandpa.”

Elsa nodded. Lowering her eyes, she said, “I’m fine. Please don’t argue Grandpa.”

Despite her words, she pretended to look really aggrieved.

Colton didn’t offer any comfort and instead looked away indifferently, unintentionally missing the fleeting resentment in Elsa’s eyes.

When he entered the study, Phillip immediately asked, “Did you investigate Cynthia recently?”

“Did she tell you?” Colton’s initial thought was that Cynthia had approached Phillip to share her grievances, but upon further

consideration, he realized that Cynthia might not even be aware of the situation, making it impossible for her to inform Phillip.

Phillip let out a cold snort. “You’ve been utilizing our family’s resources, so it’s only natural that I’ve caught wind of something being amiss. Since you’ve made the decision to get engaged to Elsa, why would you go ahead and investigate her?”

Phillip always held a protective stance when it came to Cynthia. Colton, not daring to conceal much, disclosed everything that had transpired that day.

“The investigation into Cynthia was merely driven by a curiosity about the children’s background, nothing more.”

Colton’s gaze turned dark when he recalled the kiss that night, but he didn’t reveal his emotions in front of Phillip.

“The twins that she’s temporarily taking care of?” Phillip keenly sensed that something was off, but he didn’t openly address it.

He glanced downstairs. “Are you sure you want to marry her?”

Colton nodded.

Phillip sighed. “Indeed, Zeller Group has grown to a point where we no longer need to rely on marriage alliances to secure our position. However, I don’t think she is suitable to be the mistress of Zeller Group. Don’t blame me for being naggy. I think her eyes reveal a lot of desire and ambition…”

“I know it all too well,” Colton said expressionlessly. “She will only be my wife, not the mistress of Zeller Group.”

Phillip glanced at him and sighed. “I’m glad you’re clear on that. I won’t. attend the engagement banquet.”

Colton looked at him in surprise.

If Phillip didn’t show up, Elsa would not be acknowledged by everyone as Colton’s wife, let alone become the mistress of Zeller Group.

“Grandpa…” Colton tried to persuade Phillip. “When I married Francesca, you attended our wedding out of respect.”

“Who is she to be compared to Fran?” Phillip said angrily. “I treat Fran well not only because she saved my life, but also because of her deep affection for you, her sensible actions, and her ability to do the right things at the right time!”

He waved his hand dismissively. “Enough. My tolerance for this matter ends here. Don’t even think about anything else.”

Colton had no choice but to leave the study.

Not long after he left, Phillip secretly took out his phone and instructed, “Find out which school Cynthia’s relative’s children are attending. I want to go and see them.”

After the person on the other end of the line agreed, Phillip ended the call thoughtfully.

Although Colton claimed to have thoroughly investigated and found no connection between him and the two children, Phillip couldn’t shake off a strange premonition. He had a lingering feeling that the matter was not as straightforward as it seemed.

That night, Phillip got the address of the two little ones‘ kindergarten. As he stared at the note, he fell into deep thought.
