Chapter 14 What Are You Doing Here

“Fiancée?”

Elsa let out an involuntary scream and turned instinctively to Colton, who was beside her.

He was looking gloomy and unpleasant.

“You must be joking, Mr. Zabielski. When did you get engaged? We haven’t heard a thing about it.” Colton regarded Francesca with a meaningful gaze, involuntarily revealing a hint of sternness in his gaze.

He thought Francesca was still the same silly girl who would rush to explain matters and coax him whenever she saw him frown. To his dismay, she did not even spare him a glance. Instead, she turned helplessly to Yoel. “What are you doing here?”

Her familiar tone with him said it all.

Elsa clenched her skirt, hardly daring to believe it.

He belongs to the Zabielski family, which is almost on par with the Zeller family! How could Francesca, after being an abandoned wife, still manage to secure herself such a desirable man? Also, Colton is behaving most unusually…

“Congratulations, Mr. Zabielski and Francesca! This couldn’t have come at a better time. You could both attend our wedding-”

“Enough.”

A wave of anxiety overcame him, but Colton forcefully suppressed his uneasiness to interrupt Elsa coldly.

His gaze met Yoel’s, and the pair’s animosity for one another poured forth

in every direction.

Mr. Zeller against Mr. Zabielski…

The onlookers carefully observed the expressions of both men as if trying. to pick up hints.

Elsa held her breath. “Colt…” she muttered, her voice lowering.

The man who would comfort her at once back then now ignored her completely. Instead, he was staring at Yoel. “Getting engaged is a

wonderful thing, Mr. Zabielski. Just make sure not to end up with nothing to show for your efforts.”

Yoel raised his eyebrows and chuckled. “Don’t worry, Mr. Zeller. You’re definitely invited to toast us on the day of our engagement.”

Colton gave him one last resolute glare, then turned to leave.

Elsa bit her lower lip. After forcing a smile for the sake of the crowd, she hurried to catch up to him.

Afraid of offending the Zabielski family, several amongst the crowd left. quietly, leaving only Yoel and Francesca remaining.

As he watched Colton’s retreating figure, Yoel glanced at Francesca. “Did you feel a surge of emotions after seeing your scumbag ex–husband?” he asked.

Francesca was both amused and annoyed. “What nonsense are you talking about? Aren’t you afraid your mother would kick you out of the house for brazenly declaring me your fiancée?”

Yoel chuckled. “You know very well how much my mother adores Lukas and Luna. She’d probably call for immediate celebration if I can bag you.”

Francesca burst into laughter at those words.

Yoel’s mother, Anna, went on a trip to Fruycia two years ago, where she suffered a sudden and unexpected hypoglycemic attack halfway through her journey and almost passed out.

Coincidentally, Lukas and Luna, who were playing outside, bumped into her Somehow, the children fed her several pieces of candy which brought her around. Since then, Anna had been completely smitten by them. Even her own son, Yoel, was forced to give them a wide berth.

Not far away, as he glared fiercely at the laughing couple, Colton gripped his glass so tightly that his veins bulged.

Elsa was still reeling. “It seems that Francesca and Mr. Zabielski have a pretty good relationship,” she blurted. “Having been missing for five years, I wonder when she met him? She had disappeared so thoroughly back then, it’s hard to know…”

Her words implied that Yoel was involved in Francesca’s disappearance.

Crack!

Suddenly, Colton crushed the wine glass in his hand, causing Elsa to jump with fright.

Her eyes reddened indignantly. “I care too much about Francesca, that’s all,” she mumbled. “After all, I was the reason she had left in the first place. Now that she’s back, if you feel guilty, Colt…”

Colton scowled. “What rubbish are you talking about?”

Elsa took the opportunity to behave coquettishly. “I’m just worried that you’ll be tempted by Francesca now that she’s back. After all, she was once your wife.”

Colton’s gaze fell on the couple not far away, chatting and laughing with each other. His expression grew darker. “We’re already divorced. How could I possibly have feelings for her?”
