Curse of the Moon Goddess

Chapter Aleina?

I glanced back momentarily to see the girl challenging the wolves. I silently cussed. That girl is crazy thinking she could take on all of those werewolves by herself.

I had my new mate on my back, but my thoughts were still with that other girl. I could tell from her scent she was human. Or was she? Sometimes wolves that hadn’t shifted yet or in a while smelled like humans, but I didn’t have time to waste. I needed to bring reinforcements and get my mate safe.

I mind-linked an urgent message to the pack, asking to meet me halfway.

As they came into sight, Ian shifted into his human form, but I remained in my wolf form as did Lukas.

“What happened? Is that…?” his voice trailed off as he looked at my mate. I didn’t have time to explain or question why he was looking at her like that.

Take her back to the Pack House. She may be injured so be careful. We have a human that’s in extreme danger. We need to get back. Now!

Everyone seemed to understand. Lukas came with me, but the others went back with Ian to the Pack House. If there was danger, my mate needed to be the first priority. They understand I could handle this with Lukas, but not if I didn’t know she was safely with others.

We raced back to the clearing to see the most amazing scene played out in front of us. Both Lukas and I froze on the edge of the clearing as we took in the three wolves lying lifeless on the ground. She was fighting another one and was holding her own pretty good. I felt a strange sense of pride fill my heart. This wasn’t my mate, but why was she affecting me this way?

Just as she knocked the final wolf to the ground, I realized something was wrong. She seemed to sense it too. There were originally five. Where was the last one?

I looked up just in time to see his eyes peering through the trees. I quickly shifted and called to the girl, “Look out!”

Everything seemed to move in slow motion. Lukas by my side racing to move her out of the way. We both knew he wouldn’t make it in time. She was simply too far for any wolf to leap. The girl turned around right as the wolf by her feet raised his head and sunk his teeth into her right leg. She was trapped with nowhere to go. The wolf in this tree had leaped from the branches and had a clear kill shot of her head. There was no way anyone, human or werewolf, could survive this.

That’s when I felt it. A power I hadn’t felt in centuries. I knew that power and who it belonged to. My eyes widened as realization dawned on me. She was glowing. Her bright blue eyes shining brightly as she too swiftly used the branch in her hand to hit the wolf biting her, rolled backward over the top of him, rise up, and in one swift swing of the branch, send the last wolf falling face first into the ground. The impact was so hard I felt the ground shake from my position and there was definitely a new hole where the wolf landed.

Then, she looked straight into my eyes. I was broken from my shock and ran straight to her as her eyes closed and she fell backward. I caught her right before she fell.

“Aleina? Aleina can you hear me? Stay awake please,” I begged into her ear.

The girl lifted her eyes to mine. They were slightly glossed over, but she was obviously still aware of her surroundings, if only barely.

“Who’s Aleina?” she whispered.
