Convenient Marriage: Mr. Nelson's Love Trap

Chapter 18: Public Display of Affection

Matthew’s rage continued to build, but he didn’t understand why the scene would anger him so much.
Matthew coldly cleared his throat. “What are you doing here?”
Hearing his voice, even though Dolores hadn’t known Matthew long, she still knew who was talking immediately.
She turned her head and discovered she was right. Matthew was standing in front of her and his expression was so gloomy that
anyone looking at him would move away uncomfortably.
“What did I say last time? How dare you ignore what I said!”
Dolores pulled away from Sampson’s hug. She was so worried about Jessica that she had paid no attention to how close
Sampson was to her.
“I—”
As Dolores was about to explain what happened, Sampson grabbed her wrist. Sampson looked at Matthew and spoke calmly.
“Your marriage is only for a month. It’s only an agreement of necessity. You’ll get what you want. What reason do you have to
interfere in Dolores’ private affairs?”
Knowing how hard Dolores’ life was, Sampson was heartbroken and promised himself he would cherish and protect Dolores with
all his heart.
Matthew stared at Sampson, clutching Dolores’ wrist. For a moment, a mocking sneer played on his lips.
“You let a woman who is pregnant with your child marry another guy. And now you come back to her as a protector?” He glared
at Sampson as if his gaze was a sharp sword that would kill Sampson with no mercy. “You are such a coward!”
Dolores’ heart was beating so fast out of shame and helplessness from what Matthew said.
Dolores couldn’t believe Matthew would think that Sampson was the father of her child. She was grateful and respectful to
Sampson, but nothing more. Why would he shame Sampson by suggesting such a thing? She removed her hand from
Sampson’s and looked Matthew in the eye.
“You can say anything to me. But leave Sampson alone.”

Matthew was surprised by Dolores’ reaction and couldn’t help thinking that they loved each other. How ridiculous could they be?
It took everything Matthew had not to yell. She was his wife, but she showed affection to other men in front of him! However, no
matter how angry Matthew was, he understood that Sampson was right. Their marriage was indeed only a deal. He didn’t have
the right to blame her. But at the same time, he hated seeing them together.
“If you still want the Repulse Bay land contract, come find me.” Then he turned around and left.
Dolores was taken aback for several seconds. She hadn’t expected the opportunity. In fact, she’d given up hoping such a chance
would come back to her again.
For her, the temptation was great. If she got the right to trade the piece of land, she would finally have the bargaining power to
negotiate with Randolph instead of being suppressed by him.
“Lola.” Sampson was a little worried; it seemed Dolores was interested in what Matthew offered.
Dolores shook her head. “I'm fine.”
Twenty minutes later, Jessica was wheeled out of the operating room. Jessica had fainted due to breathlessness from anger.
Dolores was the only family she had left. Hearing others insult her daughter, Jessica couldn't ignore it. Seeing what was written
on the wall, Jessica couldn’t bear it anymore and fainted.
“The patient fainted out of anger. Make sure she can take a good rest and won’t have major emotional changes,” the doctor
explained while taking Jessica to the ward.
Dolores nodded. “Thank you, doctor.”
Dolores knew her brother's death had a great influence on Jessica. If it weren’t for Dolores, Jessica would’ve already committed
suicide. She thought it would be better to keep Jessica away from the city where her brother died. She hadn’t expected that
Jessica would be hurt again because of her. However, not many people knew that she was pregnant. Who told everyone? And
why did that person do so? What was their purpose?
Sampson knew what Dolores was thinking and walked over to her. “You two can't live in that apartment anymore. I'll find a new
place for you.”
Dolores nodded. They couldn’t live there anymore, or else Jessica could get hurt again.
“I want to find out who did it.”

Dolores felt that this was not accidental and someone did it deliberately to hurt her.
“Leave it to me.” Sampson smiled, “I am your brother, your family, remember?”
Dolores looked at Sampson, feeling emotional. Sampson was too good to her. She didn’t know what she could do to repay him.
Dolores lowered her head and said nothing. Instead, she made a silent vow in her heart. Someday she would repay him when he
needed her to.
Now she just needed someone to help her figure out what happened. Otherwise, she would be always uneasy and worried that
even if they moved to a new residence, someone would come over and deliberately hurt Jessica again.
Thinking about what Matthew said before he left, Dolores’ distress increased. Sampson thought she was tired, so he stroked her
back.
“Go back to rest. I’ll stay here and take care of Jessica.”
“But...”
“I work in the hospital, anyway. I have my own office and restroom, and I can take care of your mother.”
Dolores looked at Jessica, who was still unconscious, and said, “If she needs me, please call me.”
Dolores gave her phone number to Sampson and left the hospital.

Back at the villa, Dolores only saw Coral at home. She frowned.
“Is Matthew not home?”
Coral looked at the study. “He’s in there.”
Dolores put on her slippers and gave Coral her purse. She walked toward the study, hesitated in front of the door for a while,
then knocked on the door.
She knocked several times and no one answered. She frowned, turned the handle, and gently pushed the door open.
Matthew leaned back in the chair, his eyes closed. It was hard to tell if he had fallen asleep.

Dolores slowly walked inside, stood in front of the desk, and whispered, “Mr. Nelson?”
Matthew slowly opened his eyes and stared at Dolores standing in front of him. It surprised Matthew that Dolores still called him
Mr. Nelson.
Dolores rubbed her hands out of nervousness, surprised her palms were sweating. “You said, you would give me the land of
Repulse Bay?”
Matthew half-closed his eyes. His lips curled up. “I’m a businessman. I never do anything that doesn’t benefit me.”
Dolores’ heart instantly fell. She knew she was being ridiculous. How could she believe Matthew would help her unconditionally?
She had nothing to offer. What could she exchange for the piece of land?
“I think this piece of land would be very useful to you.”
Matthew sensed her retreating. Randolph sent her and her mother to another country with no help. They’d lived a hard life and
her brother even died because they didn’t have the money. Matthew knew how much Dolores hated Randolph. He thought
Dolores only wanted the piece of land because she wanted to give it to Randolph. Now he knew he was wrong.
“But I have nothing to give you for it.”
Matthew was right, Dolores wanted the piece of land.
Matthew raised his eyelids, looking mature and sexy. “You do.”
“What?”
“You.”
Dolores was taken aback for several seconds. “Me?”
Matthew stood up and walked toward her. As he approached, Dolores instinctively stepped away. Matthew grabbed her
shoulders. “Why are you backing away? Are you afraid I’ll eat you?”
Dolores didn't know why she was afraid of him. But she somehow knew he wasn’t as nice as he seemed.
Matthew smiled lightly. “Why? Have you done something wrong? Is that why you don’t dare look at me? Because you’re guilty?”

What had she done? Dolores raised her head. “Why would I feel guilty?”
With her chin raised, they were so close Matthew could feel her breath, which felt familiar to Matthew somehow.
He paused for a few seconds, and then he pinched her cheek. “We are already married. And you’ve fallen in love with another
man. That’s cheating!”
