Chapter 24 Cooking
Keira woke up with a blurry memory of the previous night. She gasped when she saw the clock–it was already noon the next day!
Her throat felt parched and scratchy, but a glass of water and a note written in Victor’s elegant hand awaited her “Be good and wait for me at home.
Keira’s stomach let out a loud growl as she gulped down the water. And then, shame struck her because she’d been living like a lazy pig for the past few days, just sleeping and eating.
Dragging herself out of bed, she freshened up and got dressed, When she opened the door, she was greeted by the excited faces of Landon and Luna.
“Mommy!” Luna shrieked, throwing her tiny arms around Keira. Her milky scent and bubbly joy instantly reenergized Keira,
The little girl’s face lit up like a sunflower. At the same time, Landon, blushing profusely, planted a shy kiss on Keira’s cheek and snuggled into her embrace.
“Where’s Lucien Keira asked, looking around for her other child.
“He’s in the kitchen,” Luna mumbled, her checks turning rosy. Both children appeared hesitant, their lists clenched.
Kneeling down, Keira spoke sofily. “What’s going on? Have you been waiting here all morning?
Eyes wide and hopeful, Landon blurted out, “We love your cooking, Mommy! Can you make it again today?”
Luna added with an enthusiastic nod, “Me too! I finished all the chicken and vegetables yesterday. Please, please, Mommy!”
Keira entered the kitchen and was surprised to find Lucien perched on a stool, carefully washing bell peppers. Fresh chicken drumsticks lay nearby, like ingredients for a delicious adventure.
“Lucien, what are you doing? Washing food to cook?” she asked, surprised and relieved to see him safe and sound,
Lucien, with the focus of a tiny chef, sorted vegetables and drumsticks into different bowls. It was almost hard to believe.
The servant quickly explained, “Don’t worry, Mrs. Byrom. Lucien often washes fruit for Landon and Luna, but today, he seems to be in the mood to cook!”
Usually, Lucien would just serve his siblings snacks.
Despite being young, the three children never acted entitled like typical wealthy kids. They always took care of things themselves, so the servants only needed to ensure their safety without feeling overly burdened.
However, Lucien suddenly requested to handle chicken drumsticks and clean bell peppers today. As a five–year–old, he didn’t know how to operate the oven, and though the servants offered to help, he rejected their assistance.
Seeing Keira approaching, the servants were afraid of being reprimanded by her.
But Keira understood the situation and gave them a knowing nod.
Lucien wasn’t much of a talker, but he loved doing things independently. This time, he was determined to help in his own
way.
Keira grabbed a small apron the servants had prepared and tied the apron around Lucien, ready to see what culinary surprises he had in store.
“Alright, leave it to me. I’ll keep an eye on him. Can you please take Landon and Luna outside to play?”
Lucien, who had been busy cleaning the peppers, paused.
Keira carefully adjusted the apron, ensuring it fit him snugly, and tied it around his waist.
Turning around, she donned her own apron and handled the fresh p
produce.
“Thank you, Laurien. You’re truly Mommy’s little treasure! Keira kissed his cheek and then turned with a smile to turn on

oven.
Meanwhile, Lucien subconsciously touched his cheek with his wet hands, and water droplets inevitably dampened his rosy cheek.
Observing this, Landon, who had been watching, grew unhappy. “Mommy, Landon wants to help too.”
He declined the servant’s offer to take him out to play and approached Keira, tugging at her clothes and acting spoiled.
Luna, witnessing this, quickly followed, “Then Luna won’t go either! Luna wants to help, too!”
Lucien’s heart sank as his little brother and sister skipped back into the kitchen,
They were adorable, the kind that melted Mommy’s heart like butter. He knew if they wanted to help cook, she’d say yes in a heartbeat. That meant another missed chance for him, another meal spent watching from the sidelines.
Keira helplessly chuckled, “Are you sure you know how to wash vegetables?”
Landon and Luna exchanged glances, then looked at Lucien with a sense of helplessness.
Lucien had always cared for them, so they never learned to wash vegetables or fruits.
While Lucien helped Keira in the kitchen, Landon and Luna, watching from the sidelines, felt envy and determination.
Their mother wouldn’t let them near the pots and pans, but they yearned to be a part of the culinary action
Their delicate faces scrunched up with frustration, almost picturing Lucien plotting to keep their mother all to himself.
Suddenly, they burst out, “Landon can learn!” and “Luna can learn tool Their tiny hands shot up, eager to prove their worth
Keira, seeing their enthusiasm, softened. “Alright, let’s start with something simple. Wash these carrots, one by one!”
She lowered a bowl of water and a pile of orange sticks to their level, bringing them into the fold.
Meanwhile, Lucien piped up, remembering yesterday’s roast chicken and mixed vegetables, “Do we need…. corn?”
A proud glint flickered in his eyes, delighted to contribute even a tiny detail.
Keira beamed, wiping a smear of water from his cheek. “Lucien, you’re so observant! You actually remembered the com from yesterday’s dinner! You’re a culinary genius!” His face flushed with joy, his earlier question forgotten in the wave of praise.
Next, Keira pulled out two plump onions. “Ready to help peel and wash these, my star apprentice?” she asked, her eyes twinkling.
Lucien puffed out his chest, “Of course! I know exactly what to do.”
“Today, we’ll make something special for the little ones,” she announced..
“Mushroom soup, roasted chicken with mixed veggies, and fluffy Mediterranean rice. Sound good? And I’ll keep making yummy food for you all the time. Just tell me what you like, and it’s on the menu!“”
Keira chuckled, gently smoothing his hair. Her eyes sparkled with a promise of deliciousness as she gently squeezed his hand.
Lucien’s heart swelled with warmth. “Really?”
Although his little brother and sister were all about praising Keira’s cooking, they had this nagging worry that maybe she had a limited menu. That was why they cleverly requested a repeat of yesterday’s meal to dodge any awkwardness.
Even Lucien, a fan of the food, was too shy to speak up and just rolled with what his younger siblings wanted
With no guts to make a special request, he silently whipped up the dishes in the kitchen, letting his younger siblings take the lead
With Keira’s comforting words ringing in his ears, his once–dashed hopes sparked back to life.
Mustering some bravery, he turned to Keira, I’ve got something on my mind… Can we talk?”
