Chapter 749
"Grandma," Yvonne said, filled with melancholy, "Is Mom feeling very miserable right now?"
"Not just that. I saw her crying so hard this morning. She doesn't want the divorce at all, but your dad..." Chandra held Yvonne's hand. "Vonnie, don't blame me for speaking ill of him, but I think he must have a mistress. That's why he's divorcing your mom."
"What?" Yvonne yelped in shock. "Grandma, are you sure about that?"
Chandra said, "I heard that he had a girlfriend many years ago, whom he broke up to marry my daughter. We didn't investigate this thoroughly. Someone heard him calling a woman who seemed to be his first lover. I suspect that they're hooking up again now, which is why your dad asked your mom for a divorce. Otherwise, why would he ask for one when they've been married for over thirty years?"
"Grandma, I'll go ask Dad." Yvonne stood up in a huff.
Chandra grabbed her arm. "Silly girl, will he tell you even if you went to him?"
"Then what should we do, Grandma? If this is true, he's too much!"
Both were family to her. One was her mother, while the other was her father. Yvonne was already very upset about their divorce, but if it really turned out to be her father's fault, she would certainly side with her
mom.
"Vonnie, you've seen how your mom lived over the years. So what if she doesn't need to worry about money? She doesn't have her husband's care and love. In all fairness, your mom doted dearly on you, while your dad doesn't care much about you. It's said that it's better to be with a poor mom than a rich dad. A father can never compare to a mother. You have to stand on your mom's side and not allow her to be bullied."
Chandra choked back tears, which were threatening to fall.
"Grandma, I'll do that. But have you told Seb about this?"
"What's the point of telling him?" Chandra exclaimed. "Your brother lost his memories. Even if he didn't he's a man. Men always speak for other men. He wouldn't do anything about it, even if your father had an affair. For all you know, Seb might be having an affair himself."
"Grandma, Seb isn't someone like that! He's very dedicated to Rose."
"So what if he is? Men can't control their desires. Although he's my grandson, I'd much rather have a heart-to-heart talk with you. Vonnie, you're a lady. If you don't care for your mom, who else will?"
"I know, Grandma. Don't worry. I'll stand up for Mom no matter what."
"My good girl," Chandra said as she caressed Yvonne's head. "Help your mom look into whether your dad is having an affair. If so, find out who she is."
"Grandma, what will you do if Dad really has an affair?"
Yvonne knew her grandmother wasn't one to be trifled with.
Chandra said, "I just want to get to the bottom of the matter. Your parents can't just get a divorce for no rhyme or reason. There has to be an explanation of sorts. Don't you want to find out the truth?"
Yvonne thought that what her grandmother said made sense. She couldn't let her own mother feel aggrieved. If her father really had an affair, she wouldn't take it lying down.
"I got it, Grandma. I'll get to the bottom of things."
Chandra smiled, and said, "That's the way. Try not to get found out by your father."
