Chapter 40 — We Can Still Be Together
Bash:
I sat in my truck with an ice pack to my mouth. I wasn't shocked by Caesar's actions or words. He wanted out for a while now. I was happy to let him go. Under no circumstances was he going to walk away and start his own shit easy. That fool better be lucky he walked away with his life. This shit wasn't about me stepping down. Cease wanted to dominate Nise and show up Kalvon. That personal shit never mixed well with pleasure. I had someone tailing him just in case his ego got too big again.
I saw Lois coming out of the law firm dressed in a red blazer and pencil skirt. She looked sexy as hell. I wanted to put her in my back seat and do damage to that pussy. She never responded to my last text requesting a meet up or showed. That was uncharacteristic of her, but given what she has been through, understandable. Lola had been leaving me funky ass voicemails and text messages since the day I walked out of the house. Her ass went on that all expenses paid vacation though.
Lois said her goodbyes to colleagues and headed to her vehicle. I watched and waited for her to get in and then followed her down the road. I probably look like a whole stalker right now. How else was I supposed to get her alone to talk? There is no telling what her father had put into her head right now.
Adonis had been on his flaky shit lately and not returning my calls either. That was the bullshit I hated with his square ass. He was now in his goddamn feelings about the secrets being out in the open. Adonis had lost sight of our common goal to rid the world of Leo Jennings.
The car behind me was laying on the horn, bringing me back to the present. I had missed a green light. I rolled the window down and put my middle finger up. Lois was up at the next light and caught at a red too. I looked around and realized that she was not on her way home.
The light changed quickly, and I mashed the gas to catch up to her. She pulled up to the valet service of a fancy ass restaurant. I know she was not on her way to a damn date or meet Adonis. I pulled in front of the white Range Rover in front of
me.
That my car would be next in line for valet. She was not getting away so easily. I got out and the young dude greeted me giving me a ticket and reaching for my keys. I gave him a fifty and the keys.
"Yo if you scratch my shit. I'm gone scratch your ass!"
"Don't worry Bruh, your ride is in good hands."
I went through the doors and saw Lois standing at the podium talking to the hostess. I walked over and whispered in her ear.
"A man has to follow your ass to a public place to get attention?"
"No, he can take a hint when his calls, texts and requests go unanswered,"
Lois said and then turned around to face me. That face was so beautiful and just right now I realized how much I missed it all contorted up in sexual bliss. Lois apologized to the host and grabbed my arm, pulling me to the bar area. She was dead ass wrong if she thought that I was just going to leave.
"What do you want, Sebastian? I am meeting some very important people right now."
"That's how you talk to me now? Why the fuck you been ignoring me? You taking back that dick in the booty, cousin of mine?" My voice raised with every syllable and a few well-dressed white folks gasped and whispered at my choice words. "What the fuck y'all looking at? This a private conversation, damn!" I said in frustration to the muthafuckas all in my mouth. Lois gasped and cleared her throat. She ran back over to the podium and had a brief chat with the girl again. She came back over and asked me to follow her. We walked up some steps that were behind a red velvet rope.
At the top of the stairway were private booth dining tables. Lois led the way to the far corner and slid in on the right side. I looked around we were completely alone. I sat down on the left side and just looked at her. She was not pleased at all judging by the tightness of her lips and narrowed eyes.
"Don't ever address me like that in public ever again. I don't owe you shit! You have been playing me from the start. Telling Adonis, who happens to be your cousin, about us the first night. You never gave a damn about me. I was just a pawn in your little war with my father. I cannot believe that I fell for the charm of a fucking street thug. Lola is a much better fit, but even she has her limits with bullshit."
Lois had done a complete personality flip on me with her attitude and foul language. Adonis was a bigger bitch than I thought telling her that shit. Nigga ain't slick trying to get her to turn on me. What the fuck else did he tell her? "Ha! Do you feel better now that you acted like your sister? Adonis will say anything to prevent you from choosing me."
"Are you stating that he lied?"
"No, not at all. The bro code demanded that I tell him. Back then it was just a fuck and we had other business going on. I never thought the shit would blossom into you know...love shit." "Really? Then why continue to download him on our meetups and there are hella photos of us meeting up and in compromising positions. Did you know that he was having us followed?" "Yes, and once I caught on to it, I was able to shake his tails."
"Again, you kept me in the dark about that and your familial status. How can I ever trust you again? Trust that what we had was ever real?"
I raked my hands down my face until I tugged lightly on my beard. Lois was giving me a fucking headache with her questions. How could she question my love for her after I took a bullet for her ass? I rescued Lola and Adonis for her mental well-being, not my own.
She was treating me like the enemy right now. I needed to calm down and appeal to the facts in this messy situation. Lois' emotions were in a spiral right now. I had to come at her in a sense that was more business minded since she never turned that part of her brain off.
I reached across the table to grab her hands and she recoiled from me. That shit hurt my heart somewhat. I settled for clasping my hands together in front of my body.
"Lois, I love you and have never given you a reason to doubt that. I wasn't completely honest about a lot of shit, but my feelings were genuine. I have my divorce in the works from Lola. We are living in separate houses as well. I don't give a damn how my family looks at me for falling for you. You are my peace at the end of a long day. I just got into a fight with my closet fool over some foul shit he did. He also dragged your name through the mud. You're questioning my sincerity is a slap in the face. My family is shot clean the fuck out. Those New York fools who caused all this uproar are still on the loose. I need you right now. Don't just turn your back on me. We can get through this together."
I felt like a begging ass Keith Sweat right about now, but it was all true. Lois relaxed her upper body muscles and reached over touching the mass on my bottom lip. Her hands were so soft and a hint of that almond cherry lotion, she loved so much tickled my nose. I parted my lips slightly to snake my tongue around her index finger.
My tongue could work wonders on any part of her body. She tried to pull away, but I reached up and held her hand in place. The ringing of my phone stopped my tongue movement. I used my other hand to pull it from my pocket. The area code was out of state.
"Who the fuck is this?"
"Aye mane is that how you answer the phone?"
That voice belonged to Kwame's bitch ass. I dropped Lois' hand and sat up in the booth ready to go in.
"How the fuck you get this number? Bring your punk ass out in the open so we can finish this shit."
"Tsk. Tsk. That is the problem with you small-minded fuckers always with the words. I am a man of action. You fucked up my plans and now everyone you care about is going to die."
"I'll bury you before that ever happens bitch."
"That a fact? You really should have returned your wife's calls, or should I say soon-to-be ex. That fine tight little body. She put up quite the fight too. Perhaps you should stop begging her sister for forgiveness and get your ass home!" The dial tone sounded in my ear, and I jumped up pulling Lois with me. She was yelling but I wasn't listening. Lola was not answering as I frantically dialed her number running down the steps.
We got out front and Lois was still fighting my grip on her wrist. The valet had brought my truck around in record time. I ordered her to get in. I pulled the passenger door open while grabbing the keys from the young guy. "No! What the hell has gotten into you?"
"Yo that call was about your sister. We can stand here and argue or go save her life," I said running around to get in the drivers' side. Lois got in with no more words to speak of. I mashed the gas pedal to the carpet doing fifty immediately. We were in the middle of the damn city, and I needed to hit the parkway quickly. Lois continued to dial Lola's phone with no answer.
I put in a Bluetooth call to Kalvon, and he picked up immediately. This fool was clear across town lost in some pussy. He would never get to my old house in time. I dialed Nise and got no answer. Caesar was the next call and imagine my surprise when the voicemail popped up instantly. That punk ass fool blocked me.
"Dear god please protect my sister for she is an innocent bystander in this madness," Lois prayed out loud while I did internally.
