Chariot 3: Conception

Chapter 61 – Among walls

V-Nus heard the steps coming down the corridor. The unmistakable taps of the military boots he and his fellow crew had been hearing all day as they were moved from one place to the other.

“Someone is coming.” V-Nus tried to look through the small gap between the bars on the window of his cell.

The walking shade became closer and closer until he finally saw Captain Shoffer approaching and then bypassing his cell, escorted by the military staff.

“Not a word. We talk once the guards leave.” Shoffer silently warned V-Nus.

As he entered the adjacent cell, the door closed behind him, making an unpleasant squeaking noise that came from its hinges followed by an unnecessarily loud locking sound.

“Not the best accommodation.” The Captain said to himself while paying attention to the four white walls that surrounded him and were carefully padded to prevent any sounds from exiting the claustrophobic room that was furnished with a small bed and an adjacent toilet.

“Everything here is way far from best.” V-Nus replied while loooking at the same picture within his own confinement before asking what him and his other two companions wanted to know. “So, what did you find out?”

“Something is undoubtedly odd.” Shoffer started.

“Besides us…off course.” V-Nus interrupted Shoffer as usual.

“Perhaps I am off beam, but during my interrogation I felt as if they knew we were here and who we were.” Cai Yiu Hun broke his silence. In certain way, his words seemed to make sense to all of them. Flumen felt the unusual chilling sensation climbing up his arms, made worse with the creepy tone Cai Yiu normally had in his voice.

His always unmistaken intuition just made harder for the Nibirian Captain to give his orders. “We shall rest for now. Our field ‘debrief’ starts tomorrow morning. Be ready.”

The wait no one wanted to go through had begun. The future of Shon, V-Nus, Cai Yiu and Flumen as well as other billions of Earthians was at risk, immersed in a complex equation of uncertainties.

Would they believe them?

Would they trust them?

Would they accept an alliance?

Would they ever return home?

Or would they ever be freed?

Soon enough the Nibirians hoped to find out.
