Captured By A Ruthless Vampire King

Chapter |9|~ Run Embry Run~

Unedited.

Embry POV.

Goddess no! My mate cannot be The Ruthless Vampire King.

Goddess no... Goddess, Goddess, No! There is no way on this Goddess green earth that The Ruthless Vampire King was created for me.

Almost instantly, guilt consumes me. Who the hell do I think I am to question My Goddess? So, what if I’m paired with a vampire...

So what if he is rumored to be a Ruthless King. I should be grateful. Not every wolf is blessed to encounter their mate in this day in time.

I’ve prayed to my Goddess for guidance and she hasn’t only answered my prayers but also delivered my mate and savior. He may be known as a Ruthless King, who hands have been covered in blood. But some rumors are just rumors. Right? I don’t know.

I can only speak about what I know, which is absolutely nothing. Besides, the fact that Cyrus hands feels like a gift from my Goddess Herself. They are rough, like a warrior wolf but his touch is soft like a freshly newborn pup buttock, smooth and gentle like a soft breeze.

Who’s to say that he’s even ruthless at all? Out of all the species in this world, I should know better than to judge a book by its cover. Shame on you, Embry... Shame on me!

That’s not the Goddess way.

“Were the Wilde Wolves dealt with,” Cyrus questions, makes my ears perk up and zone back into their conversation.” What does he mean by dealt with?

“My apologies Sire. They got away. I’ve sent some of my best men to hunt and track them down. Don’t worry, we will find them.”

“Yes, we shall indeed,” Cyrus voice tone is penetrating. I don’t like the hint of animosity that I can identify or the tone of his voice. When we were alone I compared Cyrus's voice to a siren singing, inviting and warm. Now, he sounds like a tiger hissing, loud and threatening.

“So far we picked up their scents heading south,” the male vampire continues to report. “We believe they are going back to The Northern Pack Territory.”

“Of course they are,” the female vampire interrupts them. I almost forgot that she was here. “If the dog bitch got word to the pack of mutts, I’m certain that she has informed them that she managed to escape. All of the dogs will roam to the city and their territory to greet her. From my understanding, The Northern Pack Alpha is a Wilde Wolf.”

How do they know so much about my kind?

“Hmm you’re correct,” My mate praises and the contents inside of my stomach start to churn. Call me crazy, but I feel like I can feel his mood just by listening to him. My father always said some mates can feel what their mate feel through their bond, by touching them and in some rare cases. Just by the sound of their voice.

Now surely this happens over time as my father also used to say Rome wasn’t built in a day. So maybe, I am going crazy because it’s no way that I can identify anything concerning my mate this soon.

We just met. I barely know him. Honestly, I don’t know him at all. Yes, its official, I’m insane.

“We also found a hunter on the Far-East-Side of the forest. What would you like for us to do with him?” The male questions him about Forrest. They wouldn’t hurt him, would they? He may have kidnapped me but he also saved my life. Surely, my mate would be grateful and spare his life in return.

“Is he alive,” Cyrus responds coldly. Please, let him be alive! Please, let him be alive!

“Yes, he is.” Thank Goddess! “For now,” the male just had to add-in.

“Good,” says Cyrus. Awe. My heart swells. He will spare his life. I knew it! I knew it! I knew it!

The rumor about him being this raging monster, which’s extremely eager to spill blood, was a bunch of old wolves’ tales. We wolves are a little overdramatic. We are part animal and part humans. So, I believe it’s safe to say that our imaginations can run a little wilder than most.

“Take him back to my safe house. He’s an escaped prisoner and a betrayal of the crown. His blood belongs to me, or better yet. Our King,” He declares sending chills down my spine. No, he wouldn’t. He doesn’t mean what I think he means. He wouldn’t do that.

I attempt to open my mouth to plead with my mate but my body betrays my command. I can’t speak. I can’t even open my own eyes to blink.

“What about the Wilde Wolves,” the female question.

“What about them?” Yes, what about us?

“What are your direct orders?”

A moment of silence passes between the three of them.

My heart rate increases by the second. I’m sure all four of us notice it.

“Hunt and track them down and then bring them back to me,” Cyrus orders. “Dead or alive,” his deep voice shatters my heart like glass, and his words make my blood run cold.

No, my mind tries to grasp onto what my ears just witnessed. He wouldn’t...

“And what about her,” I feel my body shift onto his shoulder.

“What are we to do with her,” the female vampire questions. I know they are speaking about me.

“Did you bring the silver chains? He questions. Another moment of silence passes. “Good, because this little puppy belongs to me,” he commands, turning my worst fears into reality.

No, he doesn’t mean it. Yes, he does Embry stop being so naive I can almost hear my father's voice inside of my head. Hypothetical, of course! Get out of there Embug! Run.

Run, Embry. Run!

That did it! Instincts completely take over. For a second, I feel my wolf howl and then she breaks free inside of me. That did it for her too. My claws dig into his skin.

He hisses, drops me down and I bolt.

I can hear them chasing after me but I’m long gone. Long gone and I’m never looking back. Never freaking ever!

I run like my life depends on it because obviously it does, which is really fast. One thing about me is that I’ve always been a fast runner. I can run like the wind blows. I may not be bravest of wolves, or smartest of wolves, or the strongest.

Even though, I can defend myself if I need too. Don’t ever get it twister, I just prefer not to indulge in that type of activity. It’s not ladylike. Plus, the sight of blood makes me feel sick to my stomach. I don’t want to see anyone hurt, especially my mate.

No matter, how wicked his soul! It’s no right. Two wrongs don’t make a right. I rather warn my family about his plans. I believe running is the best option.

Running away can’t hurt anyone. In fact, a wise woman should always run away from danger. That’s exactly what he is. Wicked and dangerous. I’m getting far... Far... Far away from here and him!

The snow crunches underneath my bare feet, feeling like little ice cycles pricking at my toes. My heart hurts, physically hurts and my body aches. I’m experiencing tremendous physical and emotional pain. I feel so numb.

Even when you put all of that into play, I still run. My long dark brown hair is blowing behind me like how falling leaves blows within the wind.

Run, Embry, Run!

My wolf pushes me. That’s why I keep going. I run through the forest, allowing the radiance of the moonlight to guide me home. It feels like I’ve been running for an hour or two. I don’t really know and the following footsteps behind me have disappeared a while ago.

I don’t even know if I’m going in the right direction thanks to the Lycans, who were so adamant about me arriving at the Northern Border in style. “You’re a princess, now.” They said, “Your wolf will only run for fun and exercise, or sport.”

Whelp! Look where that got me. Now, I’m lost like the human fictional character Dorothy and there is no yellow brick road for me to follow. Back to Kansas, I won’t go!

That’s exactly why wolves should never utilize cars. We are beings of earth. The earth has always and will forever guide us.

I come to a complete halt in the center of a clearing, allowing my wolf to take brief control. I utilize my wolf enhanced hearing and sense of smell to pick up on any threat. There is none. Once satisfied, I evaluate my surroundings.

My eyes search for each tree bark around me. My people have formed a system of marking territory by leaving color painted lines on certain trees.

Blue is the Northern Pack. Red is for The Southern Pack. Green is for The Eastern Pack and orange is for my pack The Western.

As for right now, I am unable to pick up on any blue marking, which means I’m still in the free zone. The Rogue zone. Oh, Goddess! Please guide me.

My eyes settle onto the position of the moon. The night is no longer young, which is against my luck. Only a rogue wolf would roam in the woods around this time alone. I’m not safe here.

Finally, my eyes search the area for some source of shelter. I need to find somewhere to hide into my wolf is strong enough to mind-link. Unfortunately, for me in this area there is none. My heart pounding loudly is the only sound my wolf ears are able to detect.

Thank the Goddess! But I’m still in danger. I know he’s coming for me.

I can feel it. I know he will hunt me down to the end of the world, which would be a huge turn on if it wasn’t for the fact that his ultimate goal is to place me in chains. I seriously need to calm down and think. That’s easier said than done. My heart is no longer spiraling out of control.

You can do this Embry. You can do anything you put your mind on achieving. I give myself another pep talk while taking a deep breath.

Quickly regaining my composure I realize two things. The first one is that it’s too quiet here. To quiet! The second thing is that it was too easy to getaway. Way, too easy to outruns not only one but two warrior vampires. Plus, a Vampire King...

Uh, uh... My father didn’t raise any fool. You won’t get me.

It’s a trap! He’s closer than I think. Oh Goddess no!

Time to run! I lower my body down, bracing myself and getting down on the mark. Then, I hold my breath and focus. Setting, myself up to win! Finally, I go with an elongated start.

I break out into a full-fledged run, depending on the light of my Goddess to be my guide. Hoping and praying that she will guide me to safety. I pump my legs as fast as I can. No matter, what I hear or see. I keep going.

The sound of a river moving in four different directions hits my sensitive ears. I swear my heart jumps for joy inside of my chest. The St. Lawrence River to the south, the Rivière des Prairies to the north, Lake Saint-Louis to the southwest, and Lac des Deux Montagnes to the west.....

Thank, the Goddess! I’ve made it to the Northern Town of Montreal. It’s the half-way point in between The Northern Town of Quebec and The North Pack Village in Hudson, New York. My eyes search for the position of the moon. Only, an hour has passed since my last stop. I can’t believe I made it this far in such little time.

I did it. I managed to escape and to avoid trouble at all costs. My father and brother will be so proud of me. In a parallel universe, Cyrus would have been proud of me as well.

Ouch! Here comes the sting and the pain. The little voice in the back of my head just had to remind me that I’m running away from my mate. I’m escaping him.

By the end, of my participation in the getaway from the vampire’s marathon, I’m drenched in sweat and completely out of breath. I imagine that this is how that mouse character would feel in that old human show that Ruq, just loves to watch would feel. What’s the name of the show again? Tom and Jerry, yes I believe that’s what it’s called. Ruq use to love watching those reruns.

My wolf howls in pleasure as my feet hit the riverbank. I drop down to my knees and drink my fill of the ice-cold earth’s given water. The water tastes so fresh on the tip of my tongue and is much need.

My wolf moans from the fresh and organic taste as I take deep gulps. We feel super refreshed. For the millionth time tonight, I thank my Goddess. This time, in particular, is due to her taking care of nature. What would we do without her? I splash water on my face, onto my chest and then throughout my hair.

Feeling a little more like myself, I climb back to my feet and scan the Northern town, or more like the City of Montreal. This is the only city in North America that wolves still have claimed to. Besides, Seattle on the Western Territory, which is more like Lycan territory than it is wolf.

Technically speaking, both cities belong to The Northern King, Cyrus my mate. He does rule the entire continent of North America. However, those two cities host many wolves and Lycan which means those two cities are under constant attack. It’s a war zone. So with that being said, members of the packs don’t roam here too often.

Rogue wolves, typically do. Now, that I think about it roaming through the city without protection or guards may not be the safest option. I may have better chances headed up towards Ottawa – The Capital of Canada. We have a few safe houses there. A sudden chill runs down my back and my wolf suddenly starts to feel unsettled. I take a look, searching to see if anything is out of place.

Luckily, everything seems fine and I don’t detect a threat. But my wolf feels like someone is watching us. I lift my head up high and sniff the air just to double-check. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Thankfully, all I smell is the sweet wonders of nature and earth. “Were safe,” I comfort my wolf and myself out loud. “We managed to escape. We are The Wilde,” I give us a little pep talk. I sound a lot braver than I feel. Very, much so!

The wind picks up speed and I swear that I just heard a twig snap. Screw that! I’m going through the city. It’s safe to be with a pack of wolves who hates vampires instead of being in the wilderness alone.

Plus I’m a Wilde wolf. My family name ring bells...

I’m not like them, but these wolves don’t know me. So, they don’t know that.

I can play pretend, like Farrah and I use to do when I was just a pup. I can pretend to live up to my family’s name. Pretend to be more than what I am. Who I am expected to be?

I can make them believe in the hype.

They will most likely shelter, feed and provide clean clothes to me. I don’t like the thought of deceiving anyone. But it’s an emergency my wolf starts to reason. We can always send a village trader to bring then a thank you card later on. Certainly, my family would thank and reward whatever lone wolf that decides to help me, handsomely. It’s really a win, win situation when you think about it.

Just a little bit of proper hospitality will be enough for me and my wolf to regenerate. Then, we will be strong enough to mind-link with Ruq. I’m pretty sure the raid of Quebec has spread by now. The vampire did say that my siblings got away.

Most likely, they have already formed a search party, who may be scouting the checkpoints, villages, and forest for me. For all that I know they could be in the city right now.

The more, that I think about it. The more and more I start to realize that going through the city is not only the best option but my only option.

Finally, my mind is made up. I’m going through the city.
