Chapter |10|~I'll Follow~
Unedited.
Cyrus POV.
Before Embry Escapes.
My beloved is an interesting character.
I found it absolutely hilarious that she doesn’t seem to know exactly who I am.
I’m the King of this continent. Fucking priceless!
We have only been in one another’s presence for a short while and I’ve already come to the conclusion that she has a horrible judge of character. Really, fucking horrible! For example, she has automatically let her guard down with me. I hope that’s she not one of those love at first sight type of girls.
This is the real world and it doesn’t work like that in the real world.
Embry seems to trust me and the world knows that she shouldn’t.
She doesn’t even seem to fear me, even though she should. She confidently trusts in me and she shouldn’t. Embry doesn’t have the slightest clue of who I am. She trusts in our union. All because the Blood God and the Moon Goddess decided to come together and play a cruel joke on both of us.
It bothers me that she doesn’t have her guard up. She shouldn’t easily trust in or talk to strangers. Shit like that can get her killed.
That thought alone pisses me off.
Every time, I ask her a questions she answers it with honesty, just like right now. Her innocence is sickly sweet.
She is telling me how she believes the hunter saved her life, from me. Apparently, he was the one who pulled her out of the burning hut that I found. I know that she is not lying. That would explain why her scent was all over him and I really don’t know how to feel about that.
My mind just keeps picturing her helpless body, clinging to that filth of a hunter like a second skin. The image won’t get out of my head. Fuck, it’s driving me insane. I made up my mind. I don’t like it at all. Not one bit, I should have been the one to save her.
You’re the one who almost killed her. My monster reminds me in the back of my head.
Oh, fuck up!
Now, I’m pissed off more. Strangely enough, Embry seems to notice my frustration and immediately starts to explain herself to me. I don’t know how to feel about that either.
She should never explain herself to anyone and I really hate the fact that she knows I’m upset.
I’m a closed book in real life. No one has ever been able to easily read me.
With the exception of Embry, she has only been in my arms for 10 minutes or so and you would think that she has read my entire life story. The way she can pick up on my emotions is strange. No one has ever been able to do that. I feel like she can see right through me and I don’t know how to feel about that either.
She knows I’m jealous without my monster presenting his self. Most vampire's blazing red eyes reveal their emotions. I’m not one of those vampires. I’ve mastered the art of masking and hiding my emotions. It’s a part of my games. You’ll never know if I’m your friend or foe.
Ravana isn’t even able to identify what’s going on inside of my head. She hate’s that she can’t read me. Fuck, this is annoying as fuck.
My mind is made up. I don’t like that shit either.
“My hut was on fire and he rescued me, I think.” Embry hesitantly explains to me. She bats her long, nice and full eyelashes. Then, slightly pokes her bottom lip out, looking puzzled and absolutely adorable.
Hold up, adorable! I don’t believe anything is adorable. Only, a person who believes in unicorns, finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and all of that sugary sweet bullshit says things like Adorable! Furthermore, I’m a vampire.
I know damn well that no werewolf is adorable. They are all distasteful foul creatures. No matter, how desirable sexy she is. I mean they are! Fuck!
Her beauty is fucking with my head. She must be trying to seduce me or some shit. That’s it! I won’t be surprised if her family put her up to this shit. They probably used to witch to spell me into believing one of their own is my beloved. That’s why she pretending like she doesn’t know who I am.
I’m going to kill them all. There is only one way to find out and that’s by simply playing it off like I don’t expect shit.
“You think,” I questions, just to keep the conversation going. They could be here watching us right now.
“Yes, I believe so,” responds Embry, looking down at her left hand. Oh, now she doesn’t want to look me in the face. She knows I’m on to her.
My blood starts to boil and then runs ice cold when I realize she is studying her hand without blinking like she is looking for something.
I can see the confusion all on her carefully molded to perfection features.
She seems amazed and then it hits me. She’s looking for a sign of burned flesh that my blood so graciously heeled. She’s not a spy! She almost died because of us. My monster hisses and graciously reminds me of the smell of her burnt flesh. I’m a fucking idiot!
I almost killed my fucking beloved and then I just tried to convince myself that she was sent just to seduce me. How fucked up can I be?
“I’m not really sure,” she confesses, telling nothing but the absolute truth. I know she is not lying. My ears would have been able to detect a lie. Fuck, I’m ashamed.
“Everything is in a haze, honestly. But I do believe that he was trying to take me to safety. I, on the other hand, was more concerned about my family’s safety,” My beloved continues to explain herself. I don’t like it at all!
Plus, she just admitted that she willingly placed herself in danger for her mutt pack family.
She almost died because she wanted to protect them. Now, that’s just fucking stupid!
Stupid is what stupid fucking does and Embry, attempting to risk her life for those mutts was pure stupidity. No, worries! They shall pay for Embry terrible lapse in judgment. She has been around them fools all her of life it’s their fault. They should properly train their people.
If they are eliminated she will no longer feel the need to run to their rescue.
“And did you find them,” I ask her. I hope she did. Just so I can end them!
“Find who?′ Her soft voice, questions me in confusion. We were just talking about her family. She couldn’t possibly be that ditsy. They must be trying to contact her.
“Your family,” I ask while utilizing my senses to pinpoint if they are close by. I can smell a handful of scents on her. Based upon, her vulnerability and the mass body of mingled scents, clinging on her soft skin.
I believe it’s safe to say that her people tend to smother her.
They will probably come looking for her and be highly disappointed. They can’t have her. She belongs to me at this point. She’s mine.
“No,” her voice breaks, doing strange things to my darkened soul. Then, she cups my face with her tiny and gentle hands. Fiery electricity shoots out from her skin into my own, sending a gravitational shock to flames into the darkest depth of my soul.
No one has ever made me feel like this before.
I’ve never had anyone touch me without my permission either. Females of all species typically beg to be touch by me. No one has ever been that ballsy. No one!
I stare into her vivid hazel eyes in disbelief, completely shocked!
“No, I didn’t find them,” her timid voice brings me back from cloud 9. What the fuck is wrong with me? What the fuck is she doing to me? I don’t like it. It’s troubling because I love it. Fuck this shit. I’m not going down without a fight. She is mine, but I am nothing to her. I’m a monster.
She needs to understand that I’m her enemy, possibly her worst nightmare.
“Such a shame,” I lower my voice, extremely low, carefully removing her hands from off my face. “Because I will,” I declare, releasing my monster dominance nature. Every supernatural has an aura that allows us to dominate one another.
My nature is deep and darker than most, as the deepest and darkest part of hell. Not too many people can withstand it. I’ve had made grown male wolves piss on their self just by one look but for some strange reason, Embry minds will be rendered blind to my bullshit.
She’s immune. A warm island blend of coconuts and pink passionflower invades my nostrils, alerting my monster to a new presence. Ravana! Fuck.
My eyes scan the forest. She’s less than a minute away. “Play dead,” I compel Embry. This is not the time or the place for Ravana to learn who Embry is to me. She will lose herself to the monster. I can’t have that.
Embry body automatically goes limp inside of my arms and her eyes slams shut, like clockwork, just in time.
If a vampire as strong I compel you to play dead your dead.
At least it appears to the outside world that you’re actually dead. Your heart stops. Your thoughts are blank, nonexistence and in some cases, people bonded to you will feel the pain of your death.
The compelled soul could feel and hear everything going on around them. Other than that, they are a living corpse. This is one of the methods that Nicklaus and I use on people who fight against our rules.
He would beat them to the brink of death and I would compel them to play dead. Once, do we bury them alive? Some people have been buried alive centuries ago. Still to this day they were playing dead.
My commandments are very effective. Most vampires can compel humans, but only a few vampires can compel other supernatural.
In fact, Nicklaus's father Apollyon and myself are the only recorded vampires in this time that can compel other supernatural. My gift is very rare, which played a key role with my status in the vampire community. My gift and my heritage alone make me extremely valuable to our cause.
Not too many, people typically can’t withstand my commandments.
So imagine my surprise as I feel my little beloved fighting against my control. I can feel her wolf fighting back against me.
Unbelievable! Usually, I would release every ounce of power in the body to force a dog into submission and the results are always deadly. However, this little wolf is not just any dog.
I can’t risk it.
So I have to settle with pretending like she’s dead. Hopefully, she gets the memo. I literally, throw her body over my neck, forcing her to hang freely like a rag dog, and then release a tad bit more of my power into her head. “Play Dead,” I command once again.
“I’ve been looking everywhere for you,” Ravana panics while approaching me. “What set you off during battle? Are you hurt?” Her hazel eyes, analyze me from head to toe and then flicker around the forest floor.
They follow the trail of bread crumbs that lead to the gingerbread house, other known as our dead men's bodies.
My scent is all over them. Fuck, I’m slipping.
Ravana's eyes scan the entire murder scene, like a detective. She gathers as much information that she needs, places her now accusing violet eyes onto me, and then finally they land on Embry.
I can literally hear what she’s about to say before she says it. “What happened here?” she questions. Her monster is lurking on the horizon and so is mine.
“Why are our men dead and why are you carrying that thing?”
“I’m fine,” I retort, attempting to keep my monster at bay. He’s starting to see Ravana as a threat to Embry. If I’m not careful, he may break free. I’m not having any of that. Embry heart rate picks up.
What the actual fuck?
“It’s alive,” Ravana's eyes widen slightly, as she leans her head over to the side. Fuck! Her nostrils flare widely. Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!
“Why does she smell like your blood,” she starts to push for more information and her eyes glow brighter. “What the fuck Cyrus, please don’t tell me that wild thing is your new toy.”
Toy? Now, I wasn’t expecting that.
(No she isn’t my toy, I almost snap.)
Thankfully, I catch myself. “Yes, Ravana,” I agree, staring directly in her eyes. I can see her heart breaking into tiny pieces. She made it very clear to me that if I don’t give up on my playboy nature that she was done.
In her mind, I’m basically shoving my middle finger in her face.
In all honesty, I’m actually doing her a kindness. If she knew the truth that thought alone makes me seal the deal. “This is my new toy.”
Ravana eyes spit fire and her scold spits ice. She opens up her mouth to speak.
“Sire,” Marko interrupts our conversation, request permission to speak, and kneels down onto his left knee.
“You may rise, Marko,” I command. We don’t have time for formalities. “What are the reports,” I waste no time getting straight to the point as the three of us starts to walk back to our base.
“The raid was successful. We lost a total of twenty, plus the two that were eliminated here,” responds Marko, from behind him. I can feel his eyes focusing on my back. He’s looking at Embry. Most likely, wondering who I’m carrying a she-wolf?
It doesn’t bother me. He wouldn’t dare question his king. Marko is just a soldier. He doesn’t ask questions or bark orders. He just follows them.
That’s exactly why he’s highly favored.
“The targets have all been eliminated and put down. The village has perished in the flames. We have no prisoners. Your orders have been followed, Your Highness. The dogs are all dead.”
I don’t need to look at Embry in the eyes to decipher how she is feeling at this moment. Her emotions are so strong they nearly knock the wind out my chest. I can all but see her little mind forming, question after question.
If she really didn’t know who I was before, she does now.
Were the Wilde Wolves dealt with,” I ignore her panicking heart in hopes that the others will do the same?
“My apologies Sire. They got away. I’ve sent some of my best men to hunt and track them down. Don’t worry, we will find them.”
“Yes, we shall indeed,” My monster hisses.
“So far we picked up on their scents heading south,” Marko continues to report. “We believe they are going back to The Northern Pack Territory.”
“Of course they are,” Ravana adds in. “If the dog bitch got word to the pack of mutts, I’m certain that she has informed them that she managed to escape. All of the dogs will roam to the city and their territory to greet her. From my understanding, The Northern Pack Alpha is a Wilde Wolf.”
She’s right. She’s always right.
“Hmm you’re correct,” I agree. Once again I find myself keeping my monster at bay. My monster can feel Embry’s discomfort. I cannot and even if I did. I wouldn’t give two fucks.
Her family is still my enemy. Regardless! She needs to understand that her relationship with them means absolutely nothing to me.
“We also found a hunter on the Far-East-Side of the forest. What would you like for us to do with him,” asks Marko. The hunter. The one who got away. The one who saved Embry’s life. Perfect! This is the perfect time to show her that just because she’s my beloved doesn’t mean that her people are my friends.
“Is he alive,” I coolly respond.
“Yes, he is,” Marko informs me. His dark eyes are set on fire. “For now!”
“Good,” I say, continue to walk ahead of the others. “Take him back to my safe house. He’s an escaped prisoner and a betrayal of the crown. His blood belongs to me, or better yet. Our King.”
“What about the Wilde Wolves?” asks Ravana. From my parallel vision, I watch her eyes fall back onto Embry dangling’s frame.
Ravana is very good at paying attention to detail. She has always been the type to put two and two together. I know that she smells the other Wilde wolves on Embry.
She knows that Embry knows them. She is also, fully aware that Embry is listening to our conversation.
Ravana is testing me. She wants to make sure that I don’t have any type of connection with Embry.
“What about them,” I ask, turning my head to face her.
Her eyes sparkle maliciously. Yes, it’s official! This is a test. “What are your direct orders,” she asks with a slight hiss. Ravana is struggling with containing her monster. Marko's presence is the only reason why she hasn’t lost her shits I suppose.
A moment of silence passes between the three of us. Embry heart rate increases by the second. Anyone with the ability to hear would be able to detect how quickly it is beating.
“Hunt and track them down and then bring them back to me,” I order. “Dead or alive!”
I can literally hear Embry’s heartbreaking. My monster hates it. I hate it.
“What about her,” Ravana further provokes. Vampires are naturally territorial creatures. Ravana doesn’t like to share. She hates my playthings with a burning passion. I push Embry’s body to the other side of my neck. Just in case Ravana decides to attack her.
“What about her,” I play dumb.
“What are we to do with her,” she asks, or more like challenges me.
I stop in my tracks and give Ravana my undivided attention. Her monster is most certainly brewing wicked thoughts inside of her head. I need to settle them down. I need to settle her down. “Did you bring the silver chains?” My very own words feel like lava being pulled onto my tongue.
Ravana stares into my eyes, attempting to figure me out. She’s wasting her time. As I stated before, I’m not one of those vampires that you can so easily read. Her shoulders slump in defeat and then she simply nods her head. Yes, giving up.
“Good because this little puppy belongs to me.” As soon as the words fall from my mouth heat consumes my entire body and a stake is plunged into my heart, physical pain, and emotional pain. Caught off guard, by the sudden whirlwind of negative emotions my vision flickers red.
It takes me several seconds to realize that I’m not feeling my pain. I’m feeling Embry’s wolf pain and just by the feel of things she’s way past the point of pissed.
She starts to fight for control. She’s strong, much stronger than she looks. I release more of my monster's dominant nature, just to restrain her but Embry wolf isn’t having any of that. Before, I have a chance to force her into submission. Embry’s sharp claws dig deep into the side of my neck, ripping my flesh and taking back control of her body. Fuck that hurts. Bad!
I snarl ferociously and Embry body hit’s the forest floors. She completely caught me off guard. I slightly stumble and drop down to one knee. Blood is dripping down my back. Half of my battle gear is soaked in blood. Damn! She got me good.
“Sire,” Ravana and Marko both sing like a choir, rushing to my aid. I whip my head up only to see a blur of Embry figure. She’s getting away.
“After her,” I look at the both of them, jump to my feet and bolt. Not even a second passes before I bypass the two of them. They are not that far behind me, but at this point, I’m gone.
Chasing down my beloved, who happens to be much faster than she looks!
She is really fucking fast. It must be a Wilde Wolf thing.
This is my first night meeting my beloved and I already learned one thing about Embry Destiny Wilde. She is not to be underestimated. Not only did she manage to break free from my commandment, which has never happen to me. Never.
She also has managed to outrun both of my best soldiers and she is on two legs instead of four. The moonlight is gleaming and reflecting off the white snow. I follow her barely-there footprints. They are so unnoticeable you would think that her feet haven’t touched the floor.
I’ve no choice to retrieve to the back of my mind and allow my monster to chase after our beloved.
He’s following the stream of her pain like it’s a trail of blood. Her open wounds are bleeding through our connection. He can feel her growing resentment for us. He doesn’t like it. I don’t know how to feel. I kind of feel numb.
In the back of my head, I know that I’m wrong. Dead fucking wrong. However, in my defense, I’m only trying to look out for her. The sooner she realizes that we are nothing the better. Loving me will do nothing but cause her pain. She is a wolf. She will never be crowned a queen of the vampire world.
“She’s gone!” shouts Ravana. Her voice is gruff. She is now close behind me. “We can send the guards to sweep the area and kill the bitch. We need to get back to your territory, sire.”
“I already communicated with our men,” says Marko through our mind link. “The bitch won’t get far. She is now under or radar.”
I come to a complete halt and sniff the air, causing both of them to stop as well. Embry scent barely lingers. “No! Head back to base and instruct our aircraftmen to land in a clearing near The Northern City of Montreal,” My monster harshly orders Marko through our bond. “I expect the team their before the moon shifts positions.
Marko nods his head and then makes his way back to base. His figure is now a blur.
“Catch up with the team who’s tracking down the other Wilde Wolves,” I order, slightly turning my head to face Ravana. “Keep me informed about every move during the hunt.”
Ravana gives me a strange look. “You can’t be serious,” questions Ravana.
“I know you’re not going to personally track down that dog.”
“That’s an order,” my monster ignores her and barks, clearly losing patience. “Don’t forget your place,”
Ravana's head whips back and forth. She parts her lips only to slam them slut as she looks into my crimson red eyes. “Of course, your majesty,” she hisses through clench teeth, forcefully bows and then disappears from out of my eyesight.
Fuck, I smack my forehead with my hand. That’s three first time I’ve ever spoken to her like she’s nothing but a subject. Tonight seems to be full with it’s a first time for everything experiences.
Thanks to my beloved. The little wolf is succeeding with shaking up my world. I can’t wait until I get my hands back on her.
I swear on the blood god itself that I’m going to drag her to my kingdom on a leash and chain her to my bed. It doesn’t matter, how far she runs or where she hides. I’ am that one, I will chase, follow and find her. I’ll follow her to the end of the world. Now, that I found her.
She is mine. She will never be able to escape me.
My monster resurfaces and focuses back on the hunt. Embry footsteps are gone and her scent is now faint. That doesn’t matter I can still feel her. It’s an invisible string reeling me in her direction, refusing to cut or break ties.
We follow the connection to her past a single wolf family home, through an area filled with pine trees, and into the forest. As expected she’s heading south, towards the Northern City. It makes sense that she will head in that direction. She can use her family legacy to seek aid.
Mostly, rogue wolves are there hiding and living under constant fear.
Montreal is one of the cities that vampires consider as pick a meal land. No vampire has decided to settle there. This means that other species resided in the area, and our free meals. Any vampire, royal, soldier, or citizen can go there and stir up trouble whenever they want.
They can pick a meal, draining whoever they want without fearing, consequences or repercussions. The City Of Montreal is nothing but a playground for my kind and is always under constant attack.
No one is safe there. I know that pack wolves travel through cities as such to trade. It is no secret that the Wilde wolves are super hero’s to those dogs. That’s why Embry is taking the risk to enter the city.
A smart play, but the wrong move….
I’m going to slaughter the city just to teach her a lesson. My men and I will have a feast. By the night’s end, Embry will learn why she shouldn’t run away from me.
She will never want to leave me again.
I come to a complete halt on the outskirts of a small of a clearing. In this area, the delicious smell of blissful earth and wildflowers are mingling more potent with the smell of the pine trees.
It’s faint. She was here just a while ago, 30 minutes again to be exact. She was only here for a short while, looking for something.
My eyes settle onto the position of the moon. The night is no longer young. She shouldn’t be roaming alone this time of night. It’s not safe. If she is attacked because of my stupidity, I’ll lose myself to the darkness.
I briefly scan the area. What was she looking for?
For the life of me, I can’t figure it. My monster 20/5 vision zero in on two tiny handprints. They are almost invisible and will be naked to a basic person's eye.
This is the spot where she lowered he body down, bracing herself. Then, she looked far ahead, setting her position to win.
Once, calmed she took off with an elongated start.
She really is fast I’ll give her that. I continue to follow my beloveds. I’ll always follow her.
