Embry POV.

(Recap)

“You’re going to die tonight,” Cyrus growls at my uncle. I can feel his monster presence as he pulls me behind him.

“Is that right,” my uncle responds cooly. The fighting is still going on all around us and I know in my heart of hearts that someone shall die tonight, but it will be by my hands and my hands only just like Claire and I have planned from the very beginning.

That’s when I step back into the front line and roar, “I Embry Destiny Wilde challenge The Western Alpha Luke, The Eastern Alpha Dickson, The Southern Alpha Bells, and The Northern Alpha Maddox for your titles. I Embry Destiny Wilde challenge each pack Alpha of North America for their packs.”

My words act as an echo that silences the fights at once.

“No the hell you don’t,” screams my mate quickly sliding his arms around me protectively.

“Yes! I do,” I refuse to even spear him a single glance. This is werewolves’ business. My decision is final and doesn’t have anything to do with it and I won’t fail this mission for that I’m certain.

“If the girl wants to die, let her,” says the Eastern Alpha Dickson. “I’ve always wanted to taste Wilde wolf.”

Cyrus releases a menacing growl in his direction, but Marcellus is the one to address him, “Try her little bitch.”

“He did,” my brother, Ruq decides to make his presence known. “And it nearly cost him his life.”

Alpha Dickson offers Ruq a smirk. “And this time you won’t be able to save her.”

“No one is laying a finger on her,” Cyrus and my father roar in unison surprising my soul. I’ve never thought that I live to see that day that my dad and Cyrus agree on anything, especially concerning my well-being. This is when the other kings circle around like a second line of defense making it very clear that my father and mate’s desires shall be met.

Nicklaus and Xander are the only kings that are missing but their personal guard is here as well.

To be precise, all of the vampire kings personally guards are here with us, standing in a circle position around us all.

" I said, what I said!” Cyrus finally snaps as if his words are final. “You’re not challenging anyone and whoever is foolish enough to think otherwise will die before the words I’ll accept roll off anyone’s tongue.” He states boldly while turning back in the direction of the Alphas.

Like oh, my Goddess! I’m over them. Somehow, someway, I manage to break free from them. “And, I said what I said my challenge stands. I challenge the Alphas of North America and my challenge is sealed on the Path of Blood.”

There are gasps and whispers everywhere and that doesn’t disclude my family. My eyes immediately seek out my uncle.

He’s watching me, watch him. His mate is also looking directly at me, sizing me up as if she can take me. She’s out of her darn mind. She can’t do anything with me and I just proved that her wolf is considered to be dog food to my wolf. She will eat her up, but my uncle is a different story.

During the challenge, he will be my biggest threat. Out of all the Alpha that is present, he is the one who has a chance of actually beating me and he knows it. I’m guessing that’s exactly why he hasn’t uttered a single word.

Although, his gaze is so penetrating I have to turn away and search for my cousin, Celine.

She’s standing directly next to my sister, watching my uncle. Celine must be thinking what I’m thinking. As soon as our eyes lock, she nods her head in agreement before mouthing the words, “I’m with you,” as expected, if she’s with me that’s all of the assurance that I need.

There is no doubt in my mind that Celine will always and forever stand beside me, even if it means having our blood on my hands. She will forever and always ride with me. On top of that, in order to issue a challenge while declaring the path of blood, you must have a beta to back you, Celine shall be my beta.

The Path of Blood, as I stated before, came about when our Goddess declared full-fledged war against the blood God many, many centuries ago. My people believe that the Moon Goddess and the Blood God were always and will forever be sworn, mortal enemies.

Way before my time, the Blood God walked this land and was known to be a vicious and cruelly calculated God who had little to none regard for any sort of life, and that didn’t disclude his own creation. His legacy. His children. The vampires.

At that time, they were known to be ten times more deadly than they are now. The first generation of vampires was known to be just as cruel and calculating as their fathers. They were the Vlads, tyrants in their own right and all of them worshipped their father openheartedly, whose overall goal was to claim this world as his own.

So of course his children didn’t have a problem with carrying out their father dirty deeds by attempting to drench the world in blood and that’s when the feud of the werewolves and vampires began because it was no way in this Goddess green earth that my Goddess was going to allow her children to go extinct.

With that being said, my Goddess took action. She decided to gift our first descendants with the power to draw forth the path of blood. She taught our ancestors how to tap into her power which is said to be able to wipe out an entire species if need be.

Now, as I also stated before, in modern times, the path of blood is supposed to be my people’s last resort but the very moment that the alpha’s decided to take that course they didn’t think about one critical detail that revolves around declaring the pack of blood.

Which is the one that states after the path of blood has been declared and issued any werewolves can challenge and fight to the death for the power to become the Alpha King, or in my case the Alpha Queen, if the challenge isn’t answered after being issued the crown is automatically forfeited to the werewolf who issued out the challenge.

In other words, if any of the Alphas refuse to accept my challenge their packs automatically belong to me.

Either way, my challenge still stands and is validated. Thus is the result of my people’s and my mate needs to shed meaningless blood.

I begged and begged for him to let it go, but he downright refused. Now, he has no choice but to either stand beside me or get out of my way because one on or another this challenge has been delivered and shall be answered.

For that I’m sure.

“What the fuck is The Path of Blood,” my mate demands to know and anyone with a pair of eyes can tell that his patience is growing thinner by the second.

“No one gives a fuck,” says a deep rough voice that I do not recognize.

The man is a hunter.

A very scary-looking hunter at that with his electrifying soulless black and pure white transparent eyes. In addition, he has the most markings that I’ve ever encountered in my life, even more than the hunter, Forrest. Who just happens to be standing right beside him.

To be quite candid, it’s a whole gang of them but one in pacifically gains my attention the most.

The hunter Biggs! The way that her oddly striking almond-shaped coffee-colored eyes are anchored onto me, or more like are anchored onto someone behind me.

It takes me less than a second, to realize that it’s Luscious who has her undivided attention. I can all but see, Luscious monster craving to sink his teeth into her neck behind me.

He wants her and she knows it.

She pushes his bottoms with a single wink in his direction causing him to send her a promising growl back in her direction.

What the heck is going on?

“We’ve come for one thing and one thing only,” adds in Ghost Falls daughter, Night.

She’s standing directly beside, Biggs.

“Shut the fuck up you traitorous bitch,” my mate snarls at her. I feel his body go rigid beside me.

Rather then responding to mate’s outburst Night Falls, just flashes him an award-winning smile.

“I know exactly what you came here for, but you and your gang can piss in a rabbit’s hole,” says a she-wolf with an extremely strong southern accent, gaining everyone’s attention.

It’s the Southern Alpha, Belle’s. “The path of Blood is one of our most sacred rituals and it shall be honored.”

Her hips sway with every step that she takes as she makes her way into the center of the courtyard. Her remarkably astonishingly bright fiery red run freely down her back like a never-ending wavy river. Her stunningly brilliant bright green eyes sparkle like hidden gems as they land on me. The Southern Alpha reputation proceeds itself. She is quite the southern charm.

The Southern Alpha reputation proceeds her.

She is quite the southern charm.

“Belle’s stop this foolishness at once,” my father demands.

“You know like I know that I can’t stop a challenge that has been declared on the path.” She says, turning to face him. “I’m sorry, Hunter. You have always been a good friend to my pack, my late mate, and myself.” Her eyes seem to water as she states her last words. “However, the challenge is final and I’m sure that your daughter is completely aware of that.”

Belle then places her vibrant eyes back onto me.“You’ve got ball’s girl, I’ll give you that and if circumstances were different I believe that we could have grown to be very close friends, but fate has decided and I Alpha Belle’s Samatha BlackBear of The Southern Pack accept your challenge, Embry Destiny Wilde.”

As soon as the words, fall from out of her mouth I feel the impact from her challenge sink throughout my bones. My wolf growls within, ready to attack her wolf. This is an effect of the challenge being issued in blood. Once the challenge has been issued and accepted the fighting wolves become enemies into one either, withdraws, submits, or die.

In other words, it’s time to see who’s the better.

It’s time to fight but my mate has other plans, he doesn’t waste any time charging in her direction. That’s when the world slows in motion all around me. I attempt to go after my mate just to be yanked up by Seneca. The other remaining vampire kings seem to be preparing themselves to intervene, daring any soul to touch their brother.

I can sense their monsters taking over their bodies.

“No, Cyrus! I scream,” attempting to break free but Seneca hold is army strong right around me, downright refusing to let go.

“Get off of her,” growls my cousin, coming to my defense. In the next moment, she’s shift’s into her glorious black wolf, pounces, and lands gracefully in front of Seneca. The other King all turns to face the three of us, ready to attack.

That's all the motivation that I need to break free from Seneca. Once, free I jump in front of Celine.

“No,” I hiss. “She’s with us!”

Out of my tunnel vision, I notice that my father, sister, and brother eyes are locked on us. There’s no way, that they are going to let anyone do anything to Celine either.

“Embry, stop him,” Celine’s words appear inside my head and it takes me less than a second to realize exactly what’s she trying to do.

This is a distraction so I can stop Cyrus.

Oh, my Goddess! She’s good.

Without a second thought, I shift into my wolf, leap, and then land onto my four paws in the center of the courtyard, but more importantly free from the other Kings. Celine wolf follows my lead and is now right beside me.

Thank you, Goddess! We’re free.

Out of our parallel view, my wolf can detect the surrounding packs once again readying themselves for a fight. Seconds, away from shifting, and just like that everything I’ve planned is being spoiled.

Just like that, the war that I’ve tried so hard to prevent is seconds away from beginning.

Cyrus is in front of the Southern Alpha now, not even a second away from keeping his promise.

Unfortunately for me, I’m too far away from them. It’s no way that I will make it time, all hope seems to be lost until time pauses. Literally, followed by a bright, electric, emerald green light flashing, and out of nowhere an extremely powerful forcea my wolf to bow down.

“Enough!” viscously snarls an unfamiliar, but yet somehow a very familiar voice.

What the heck? I can not move.

My wolf golden vision immediately begins to search for the cause of this. We come in contact with the one and only Claire.

She’s now boldly standing in the center of us, all eyes are on her.

There’s a glowing emerald green light acting like an invisible shield gleaming throughout her body. The fight that was seconds away from breaking out has suddenly become non-existent.

Extinct and it’s all because of Claire.

Her miraculous power is holding everyone in place demanding every one attention.

Thank Goddess, she is okay. My friend has come to save the day.

The queen has awakened and she is pissed but she’s not the only one. Nicklaus and Xander come running in after her. Both of their eyes are blazing crimson.

“What the fuck are you doing?“He snaps at her. “You need your rest, you’ve been shot. You’re preg-!” He is seconds away from saying but with a quick flick of her wrist she silences him.

Literally! The King’s mouth moves but not a single word escapes his lips. On top of that, he is now also frozen in his spot like the rest of them.

“Brave one,” Xander pleads with her next, but she just waves her hand out at him. The greenlight flows throughout her fingertips with ease. Now, he too is stuck in place attempting to talk, wordless.

Claire decides to walk over towards me and places her hand on my wolf coat. A buzzing sensation runs throughout my body and then suddenly I'm free. I can move again.

She winks at me and then turns to address the crowd, who are frozen but fully alert.

Amazing! Right? I know.

“Now, that I’ve got everyone’s attention. I believe my friend issued a challenge and I will personally ensure that no one and I mean no one shall intervene during the matches.”

“Who the fuck do you think you are?” bellows, Mecca. Her yellow eyes are filled with so much hatred as she stares in my friend’s face.

Oh, Goddess! I'm so tired of her. All of this drama is because of her! We're all here because of her.

Gosh, off with her head already and apparently I'm not the only one who feels that way, each and every king delivers a series of vicious growls and menacing snarls in Mecca’s direction.

My uncle growls back at them in her defense, which causes the Northern Pack to join in.

“Oh, great! A growling party,” says Claire before silencing them all with yet another single wave of her hand. Then, she walks over in Mecca’s direction slowly, very slowly.

My uncle mate just stands there with glowing yellow eyes because she has no choice of course and my friend offers her a taunting smile. “You know exactly who I am, you backstabbing bitch.”

Ouch! I felt that to the core.

“My mother would be so ashamed.”

“You're mother?” Mecca laughs! “Who gives a fuck about whatever hoe birthed you?!!”

“Wouldn’t you like to know,” Claire is the one to now laugh like she knows something that Mecca doesn't and then out of nowhere she stops.

“You know what that doesn't matter but you do have one up on me as well that reminds me, I owe you one.” Claire hiss, but this time her voice is not her own. It’s dark and deadly, dangerous, extremely dangerous. It’s official.

Claire’s inner demon is now front and center.

In the next second, Claire pulls out a gun from out of her now crimson-stained bloody dress that I didn't notice before. Next, she aims it in Mecca’s direction. My uncle once again release a series of vicious growls, but there’s no use he’s stuck in place just like the rest of them.

Claire pulls the trigger back. “Bang, Bang,” Claire laughs while pointing the gun at Mecca, she's having way too much fun with this.

“You don't have the balls,” growls Mecca.

Wrong move, bang! One-shot to the arm.

Mecca penetrating screams hit the air as my uncle promises, “I’ll kill you.”

Mecca blood drops freely.

“I highly doubt that Mr. Alpha but now isn't the time for pointless grudges, if I was you I'll beg to be released.” She smirks while looking at Mecca, who blood is rushing down her arm like a waterfall. “That looks like that hurts!”

“Good one, Clairbear,” laughs out Marcellus from behind us.

Meanwhile, Mecca penetrating pleads for help is followed by more cries.

“I swear I'm going to kill you,” my uncle continues to growl. The kings growl back at him.

Which is such a silly thing to watch, when you consider the fact that neither party can really do a thing to one another at the moment.

“Calm down Mr. Wilde Alpha,” jokes Claire.

“She will live for now, your backstabbing bitch of a mate fate will rest on your future Alpha’s queen hands.” Claire says before turning back around to face me.

“Yeah, we shall see about that bitch,” my uncle growls at her, and the king goes crazy.

“Release us now,” says one of them, Rufus I think.

“Right now!” It appears that Nicklaus can speak again.

“Watch that bitch word,” Claire hisses defending herself, ignoring them all.

“Fuck you! Fuck you all!” he hisses back. “And fuck anybody that follows you're nothing but vampires scum!” My uncle says while looking in my direction.

“No,” my father calls out to his brother but it's too late. “I Alpha Maddox Ridgewater Wilde of The Northern Pack accept your challenge, Embry Destiny Wilde.”

Seconds, later I feel the impact from his challenge sink throughout my bones as well.

Then here comes the next Alpha-like clockwork, “I Alpha Dickson Dan Springlake of The Eastern Pack accept your challenge, Embry Destiny Wilde.”

That’s all it takes for his challenge to sink. Now that leaves one, my wolf golden eyes shifts onto the last remaining Alpha, Luke.

My close friend and first crush. The one person, who has always been nothing but nice and patient with me. It shall kill me to fight him and I don’t want to, but I will do whatever it takes to save my people. I will fight to the death if need be.

No matter, who I've got to go up against.

Instead of jumping on the bandwagon, like the Eastern Alpha, Luke turns to face my father.

“Luke, please don’t,” my father says to him. “It’s Embry, my Embry. Our Embry.”

My mate snarls his teeth at my father’s statement but no one has time for his jealous bullcrap!

“I know,” responds Luke, lowering his head. “As Belle’s already acknowledged you have always been a good friend and my close confidante. I owe you so much, this pack owes you everything.” He pauses for just a second.

“Where we’re from we live by a code, the pack is family. We love one another, never fight each and there is no in-between.” He states while turning to face my uncle.

“We live by that code and shall die by that code.” Luke gaze travels to me. “It’s the Westside or no side at all. This pack means the world to me, each and every member a part of my pack shall forever and always have a place in my heart, especially you Embry. That’s exactly why I have no choice but to do this.”

“Wait!” Farrah is the one to speak but Luke ignores her. “I Alpha Luke Land Lakewater decline your challenge Embry Destiny Wilde the new Western Alpha.”

Wait! What?

The room explodes, with outbursts as Luke’s words sink into me and my wolf core. Out of nowhere, a tingling sensation rushes throughout my body causing my wolf to release a horrifying howl. It’s the Alpha Aura spreading throughout our entire body as a shipwreck of power sparks and sizzle inside of me.

“What the heck just happened,” I asked my wolf.

“We’re an Alpha. It’s official. We are the Western Pack Alpha of North America..”
