Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Marleen was in the terminal stage of leukemia, suffering immensely.
Her parents had divorced and remarried, and now no one wanted to take care of her or pay for her medical bills. She couldn’t even afford her painkillers. Without the money for her medical expenses, the hospital threw her out.
Her friend, upon learning of her condition, feared she would die in the apartment and bring bad luck, so he threw her belongings out and kicked her out.
She called Alfred, crying, but he was too busy scrambling to borrow money to pay off his bank loans and credit cards to care about her.

Marleen tried to stay at the Walker Family’s house for a few days. Joan had originally liked her, but because of her, Alfred was in deep debt, had lost his company and job, and his life was ruined. Now, seeing Marleen was like seeing an enemy, so she yelled at her and kicked her out.
I don’t know what Marleen was thinking, but she came to me, hoping I would let her stay for a while. She was already emaciated from the leukemia, looking extremely pitiful. However, pitiful people often have something despicable about them, and I couldn’t bring myself to feel sympathy for her.
“Laraine, please, I heard from Alfred that you have a big place here, with many empty rooms. Let me stay for a few days,” she begged,

clutching my arm.
I gently pushed her hand away and shook my head. “Sorry, we aren’t even friends. We only know each other because of Alfred.”
She refused to leave, so I called the police. There’s no harm in calling the police in such situations.
Unexpectedly, when she saw me calling the police, Marleen suddenly turned vicious, her previously delicate face now looking fierce and terrifying.
She said she was jealous of me, questioning why I could be happy with Alfred while she had nothing. Her parents didn’t want her, and her boyfriend abandoned her. She had leukemia, so

she made those outrageous demands to Alfred just to break us up.
“Not only did I want to break you and Alfred up,
but I also wanted to ruin him completely. Yes, I wanted to destroy him! Initially, I was planning to drive you to the brink as well, but who knew you would be so heartless. You planned the wedding and then just broke up. Haha…”
Marleen laughed maniacally, asking if I never loved Alfred in the first place. I trembled with anger, about to speak, when someone suddenly barged in, slapping Marleen hard across the face.
Looking up, I saw Alfred’s contorted face. He grabbed Marleen by the shoulder and punched her in the head.

“No–stop!” I rushed to intervene.
“Get out of the way!” Alfred’s eyes were bloodshot as he glared at Marleen, clenching his fists. “Tell me, is what you just said true?”
Marleen, already in the late stages of leukemia, took a while to catch her breath after the punch but then laughed maniacally. “Yes, I purposely broke you two up. You’re so stupid.”
Alfred lunged at her again, but I managed to hold him back. Thankfully, the police arrived just in time and, given the complexity of the situation, took all three of us to the station for questioning.
At the station, Alfred, like a raving madman,

tried to attack Marleen again but was restrained by the police. After explaining the situation to the police, I prepared to leave. As Marleen was released, she blocked my path at the station entrance.
“Marleen, this is a police station,” I said loudly.
“I just wanted to tell you, during our honeymoon, he slept with me,” Marleen laughed like a lunatic. ” Actually, I didn’t have leukemia; I had AIDS, which is infectious.” With that, Marleen turned and walked away.
Watching her retreating figure, a chill ran down my spine. Marleen’s madness and Alfred’s foolishness terrified me.
In such circumstances, how could he lose

have been ruined.
