Chapter 93
Chapter 93
Alan was asleep by the time they reached home. Ana simply fell into bed with no energy for sex. Damien graciously offered to relieve her stress with his tongue, but Ana couldn’t even muster up the excitement to lie and enjoy it.
And that was exactly how the next few days went. Ana simply worked and had no time for Alan or Damien. She felt horrible about it, but sometimes that was just the way couples worked. Despite several cups of coffee, Ana fell asleep on the couch. before Damien finished putting Alan into bed.
Ana woke up in her own bed the next morning, so Damien must have moved her at some point in the night. Oh, how romantic it would have been if she weren’t snoring lightly.
Damien no longer seemed afraid to do things with Alan. Be it disciplining him or trying out new things. They had become a normal and healthy family. Ana learned to rely on Damien and found that she loved having a partner in parenting. Sometimes, she wondered why she was so afraid of it before. People wouldn’t have believed that their relationship was so rocky if they say them right then.
Ana had taken a long lunch break to spend with Damien on Friday, but fifteen minutes before the designated lunch time, she received a call from Damien. He sounded murderous.
“Someone broke into my car,” he said.
“What?” Ana whispered.
“My car. Someone smashed the window. My stereo is gone and the seats are torn to shreds. But I hate that they took Alan’s
car seat.”
Ana blinked in confusion. “Did you have anything important in there? Where did you park the car?”
“In the employee parking lot. Security is already working on finding out who did this.” He sighed. “I am just angry and I don’t remember if I left something important in the car.”
Ana gulped. “Did you call the cops?”
“They are on the way. There is no other way than to scrap this car, Ana. The steering wheel has been pulled out and I think someone tried to set it on fire.” His voice was quieter this time.
“Oh my god, are you okay?”
“Yes, yes, I am okay. But I can’t imagine what would have happened if Alan or you were in the car. I swear… if I ever find this guy, I am going to rip him to shreds and make sure no one finds him.”
Ana took a cleansing breath. At least he wasn’t physically hurt. “I’ll get someone to bring my car over, okay? Just calm down and don’t get ticked off in front of the cops. It is not their fault and I don’t want to see you splashed all over social media for behaving boisterously.”
Damien was silent for a minute before she heard him chuckle. “Thank you, baby. I really needed your rational input. I was going to lose my mind for a second there.”
“I know.” She paused. “I will call you back in half an hour, okay?”
He thanked her and they hung up. Ana rubbed her eyes. She couldn’t help but smile even though the situation was grave. It was nice to joke in stressful situations, though people rarely played along.
“What happened?” Liam asked from beside her.
“Someone broke into Damien’s car. It’s completely wreaked.”
“Does he not have CCTV footage?”
“I don’t know the details yet but the police will be involved. It’s definitely a shitty time in our lives.” She shook her head.
Liam grimaced and went back to work. It trudged on as Ana asked someone to pick her car up and drive it to Damien. Lord knew Damien needed to pick Alan up himself and then pick Ana up. He was too stressed to not see them until later that night.
The police bagged and tagged everything relevant and the car was taken to the impound lot. The car was so damaged that Damien couldn’t believe it when he heard the extent. The brake lines had been cut and something was poured into his tank. A random homeless guy wandering outside the parking lot said he saw a guy in dark clothing peering in the windows. But that was all the lead they had. The CCTV showed pretty much nothing. It was spray painted over.
When they got to Damien’s house, he practically collapsed on top of her. “Why did our first week together have to be like this?” he groaned.
Ana ran her fingers through his hair. “It’s just the first week.”
“Please tell me it’s over,” he mumbled as he buried his face between her boobs.
Ana snickered. “You’re in your happy place, why are you worried?”

Damien nodded and she didn’t need to see his face to know that he was grinning like a fool. “Yes, your body is my happy place.”
Ana rolled her eyes. “My body or my boobs?”
“Your whole body. Some places elicit more joy than others, but right now. Everything.”
Alan bounded into the room and stood next to where his parents were cuddling. Damien shifted as Alan forced his way into Ana’s lap. The three of them sat together, Damien nuzzling into her while Alan ran his toy car all over Damien’s shoulder and head.
The next week was equally insane. They found out how close Damien had been to dying. If Damien had somehow managed to get the car started, it would have exploded, taking him out with it.
The only good thing that came out of the situation was that Ana and Liam managed to finish the full project. That weekend. Ana decided to spend time with her parents. When she came back home, she found Damien hunched over talking quietly to a man whom Ana was familiar with.
The lawyer’s hand was still in Damien’s and his head was bent in as he listened to Damien speak. Finally, the man patted Damien on the shoulder before they broke apart.
“Why were you speaking to your lawyer?” Ana asked.
