Bound by the CEO’s Baby By Sun Scar Chapter 2
Chapter 2
“Ana?” a familiar voice shouted her name. “Anastasia Reid? Oh my god! I can’t believe it.”
Ana whipped around before she could stop her body and her stomach dropped. She could feel her heart go crazy until she could hear it in her ear. Long, slender hands circled her shoulders and squeezed. Ana held her breath as her own hands remained limply on her side.
*I have been wondering if I would see you again. I knew you had gotten a job in Chicago, but I knew you would have to come back to New York some time. Did you get a new job?” Wynne asked excitedly, completely unaware of how stiff and uncomfortable Ana was.
‘I need to get out of here, Ana thought urgently.
“No. I got transferred here.” She couldn’t get more out of her mouth after saying that. She was afraid to give away information.
“That is wonderful. Did you like Chicago? I stayed in Los Angeles for a few years and came back recently. The scene in Los Angeles is exactly what I like.”
Anastasia glanced around nervously, wondering where her mother and Alan were. She had been back in New York for two weeks and had just found an apartment to move into. Her current company had paid for her move, letting her stay in a luxury hotel and providing transportation and cost for her family so that she could focus on getting her work done quickly. She had yet to go to the office but working from the hotel had been relaxing.
Her parents had been so excited to move with her. They had taken the role of grandparents quickly after Alan was born, but they didn’t let Ana get away with her lies and secrets. After a good scolding, they were left with regret that they couldn’t meet their precious grandson as much as they wanted to. They were constantly on video calls, though.
After Alan was born, she took a couple of months off before going back to work. It was a boon that the company had an on- site daycare for full–time employees. She had scaled back her hours and worked only on weekdays. Moreover, her work allowed her to bring Alan to work if something happened in the daycare.
After her neighbor and best friend, Marcus‘ freakout on finding out she was having a baby, he was supportive… as supportive as a single twenty–seven–year–old could be. Marcus had fallen in love with Alan almost immediately. Therefore, Uncle Marcus was a big part of their life and the two boys couldn’t do without each other.
“So, what are you doing here, Wynne?” She had never expected to see Wynne or anyone from the Wright Group ever again. Wynne’s sudden appearance that thrown Anastasia for a loop. What were the chances that she could stumble across someone she knew so quickly in the concrete jungle that was New York?
Wynne furrowed her brow and seemed confused by her question. “Well, it’s lovely seeing you too, Ana.”
Anastasia sighed. “I didn’t… I just never expected to see you. What has it been? Three years?” Ana knew exactly how long it had been, almost to the day, but she didn’t need to say it out loud.
Wynne pushed a strand of hair behind her ear before speaking. “You know, I tried contacting you after you resigned. I tried your email and your phone number… but nothing went through.”
Ana gasped in fake surprise. “You did?” Ana had allowed a dozen conversations before she changed her email address and phone number. Guilt coursed through her body.
Wynne Boyd had been her best friend for almost four years before she stopped their communication. Ana completely shut Wynne out of her life once she found out she was pregnant.
“I tried for a year before someone picked up the phone and shouted at me. They said whomever I was trying to reach didn’t want me to find them. I even tried calling some of your college friends, but all of them had the same number as me.”
“Huh.”
Because that was a convincing response.
Wynne continued to stare, her brow arched. She knew something was amiss. “You didn’t get any of my messages?
“My phone was hacked into and all my information was compromised. I spoke to the company and they issued me with a new number and cleaned up the rest. I haven’t even checked my email since then… I completely forgot about it.”
Wynne sighed. “I really missed you. Ana. I wish you would have called me.”
Ana kept her calm. “I missed you too. I just didn’t have any numbers and things were so hectic at the new job. I gave up on keeping contact with people.
Now, Anastasia just needed to find an excuse to slip away-
“Mammaaaa“” she heard Alan signing.
Her composure shattered immediately. She didn’t have time to react before her mother came around the corner with Alan on her hip. Both of them were grinning and Ana couldn’t help but smile back at them before she registered what a bad
situation it was.
“Mamma, grandma let me ride the car!”
Anastasia’s eyes grew as big as saucers. Her mother met her gaze and her smile faded. She read the fear in Ana’s eyes. Anastasia glanced at Wynne from the corner of her eyes. Wynne had her eyes narrowed and her head tilted to the side as she stared at Baby Alan.
“Oh, hell-
Alan took a sharp breath. “Momma, grandma said “hell” he all but shouted. He knew these were the only times he could use adult words. And he made full use of it.
“Ana”
“Ah, is this one of your colleagues?” Ana’s mother asked.
Ana nodded. “This is Wynne. She was the CEO’s Secretary and my close friend when I worked at Wright Group.”
“Hello, Mrs. Reid.” Wynne’s voice was almost a whisper.
“I’m going to take… take Alan… outside.” Her mother trailed off and Anastasia quickly nodded and watched as the two scurried out of the door.
“Anastasia Wynne was still very quiet.
