Born From Ash (Book I of The Flame Trilogy)

Once the area is clear of all pack members, I drop my weapons relaxing and waiting for the intruders to show their faces.

They stride forward confidently, I might have been intimidated if I wasn’t one of them- above them. A couple of them have familiar faces but I also see some new faces too; Aleksandr is still continuing to experiment.

“Well, it looks like we’ve finally found our Hell bringer.”

Zakhar leans against a nearby tree, looking me over in amusement. He looks different than when I had last seen him over two months ago, and from the glint in his eyes I suppose he’s thinking something similar about me.

“Alpha Aleksandr was furious when you left.” Bogdan spits, his hand snapping out to strike me across my cheek. My head snaps to the side at the intensity of it, a line of blood trailing down to my chin where his claw grazed me.

Still kissing Aleksandr’s ass, I see.

“You’re going to receive one hell of a purge when you get back.” He threatens, grabbing my face in his hand. His eyes spark angrily at my vacant stare, but he lets me go.

His words admittedly strike fear into me, but I mask it well; punishment is to be expected and if it wasn’t for Dimitri or that dream I had with the moon goddess, I would’ve killed myself just to spite Aleksandr. That would piss him off greatly; I’d pay to see his reaction.

To them I’m a traitor, and I would be treated as such. I probably won’t have to worry about killing myself, because he’ll probably rip my heart out personally for my betrayal. I only hope that I can lie well enough to cover my ass, if only for a short while.

Things are up to Dimitri now. The fate of the werewolf race no longer rests solely in my hands. I only hope that everything works out because it would be such a shitty ending if I finally found something to fight for and it slips through my fingers.

Maybe it already has, but I’m determined to fight for what I want, even if that means having to charge through hell itself.

I may have been born from ash, but this is only the beginning; my story is far from over.
