~The day after ~

Elena POV

“Ginus, get ready and warn the guards! We leave right now.” My father was chatting with his Gamma. His powerful voice rumbled in the corridors of the pack house.

“Yes, we have a lot to discuss with them.”

When the door to his office suddenly slammed open, I winced.

“Hey dad! Rex and I were just-”

“Oh, hello Elena! Since you are here, you will come with me.” He ordered me bluntly. Despite being in Alpha mode, he still kissed me on the cheek like the adorable father he was.

Soon I would regret my last statement…

“Where do we go?” I asked, a bad feeling obscuring the horizon. It was not unusual for me to accompany him to one of his meetings in other territories. But a little internal voice told me to be on guard...

“In the territory of Black Devil. We will meet with the Alpha and Gamma.” He declared casually, almost making me suffocate with the apple I was chewing. Rex chuckled beside me, patting me on the back as my father rolled his eyes.

“But why, dad?” I asked incredulously, gaping.

Me, Mirko and my father, aka Alpha Giacomo, in the same room?! No no no no no and a thousand times no! Never, ever going to happen! Denied!

It would be a disaster!

Not to mention that Mirko and I still hadn’t talked to each other since the fight.

“What do you mean ’why’?” He countered by gesturing question marks. Raising an eyebrow and crossing his arms, Alpha Giacomo represented the stereotype of the typical Alpha male. All the others would have fled before his imposing figure. Obviously not me.

“Since when does it bother you to attend a political meeting in another territory? You have always wanted to join me since you were a child. Especially considering your status as an alpha daughter.” He explained with boredom, looking at the watch on his wrist. “You already knew what you were facing and your extra responsibilities.”

My father thought I didn’t want to accompany him out of laziness.

Oh, he could not be more wrong!

“I can’t dad!” I squeaked, louder than I intended to. Rex coughed, trying to hide the snicker that escaped his lips. I glared at him before I turned back to my father.

“I-I have to go somewhere ... for a school project!” And here was the excuse of the moment. Since my father knew me too well, probably he knew it was a lie.

“Because Rex” I paused, giving him such a strong hit on the back that he yelped like a girl. “He has no good marks. So, I need to help him.”

“Hey! That’s not true!” Rex exclaimed, offended. “Partially…” He then added with a shrug.

My father stared at me suspiciously, his eyes had narrowed to two slits.

“Tell me the truth Elena. Why don’t you want to escort me there and attend a regular meeting with another Alpha?”

Uff, so difficult. Why me?! Why!? What have I done?!

“Ok…you caught me.” I admitted with false concern, fidgeting.

“The truth is that, err, I’m afraid of him. He is so scary. I don’t want to meet him.”

And now it was Rex’s turn to cough to avoid choking.

“Of whom? Of Alpha Mirko?” My father asked in amazement. There was a weird spark in his eyes…

“Y-yes.” I stuttered, moving my feet to accentuate my false nervousness.

Maybe my plan would work ...playing the card of ‘Dad!! I’m so scared!’

My father surprised me with a thunderous laugh.

“Come on, he is not the terrific black demon as everyone thinks. And the fact that Marco and his Beta are mates, it plays in our favour. We can put aside the discord of the past and maintain a semi-civil relationship. I won’t need to watch out for a possible invasion anymore.”

‘Oh. Certainly, I didn’t expect this.’ I meditated on his words. A sense of relief overwhelmed me knowing that my father did not completely despise Mirko.

“And excuse me, but haven’t you met him at school yet?” He questioned, scrunching his eyebrows.

“Mhm, not really” I lied without hesitation. “But I don’t want to be near him, dad. So…better you go alone.”

“Don’t be silly. I will be with you, nothing will happen. Also, I’ve heard that Alpha Mirko is quite popular with girls, he might fascinate you too, Elena!” My dad chuckled, studying me for a second.

A wave of anger spread through my body. Who else knew about my mate’s past?!

"Is he?!” I curled my lips, keeping a stoic face. “Okay, I’ll come to meet this ‘I’m so popular with girls’ Alpha.”

~~~~~~~
I cleared my mind as I tried to forget the whole charade. Of course, my thoughts drifted towards the one wolf that made my nights sleepless.
My heart began to spin at the thought of seeing him again after our fight.
‘Awww, that was our first couple fight!’ Titilas cooed, reminding me of Marco. Her happiness was almost contagious.
Almost.
Never would I ever speak to him unless he apologized first. And even then, I’ll see what to do.
‘Pts, who are you kidding?!’ Titilas snorted, shaking her head.
‘Shut up, traitor.’
When we finally arrived at the border, in the place scheduled for the meeting, we were welcomed by no other than Mirko and his Gamma. Both in their wolf forms.
Craken was almost twice the size of Rolando’s wolf, with black fur and spike-like claws. Everything about him enchanted me.
I had no doubt that my mate had caught my scent miles away since his expression showed no surprise.
’Come on Elena, you can ignore this splendid piece of mate that is all yours.” I was repeating, closing my eyes for a split second. And it was at that moment that the stench of blood and death hit my nostrils.
I swallowed hard when I noticed the bodies scattered on the floor, blood pooling around them. What had happened? Was Mirko okay? Were they under attack?
Suddenly I relaxed when I realised that my mate had not suffered any damage, not even a scratch. Same with his Gamma. Although their muzzles were covered by a sea of blood.
I watched him shift and straighten to his full height, his posture relaxed as if he were the son of the Moon Goddess herself. Just the mere sight of him, drove my wolf crazy.
Titilas was bursting to free herself, to jump on her mate and offer herself to him, craving for his mark.
I held my breath as I tried to keep my heart as calm as possible, avoiding checking the lower part of his body while he was wearing a basketball shorts that a guard had given him.
“Welcome back to Black Devil. Sorry for this little mess here. Some rogues crossed my border and we...” He trailed off, wiping his mouth with the back of the hand, removing the blood. “We took care of the problem.”
His voice was so mesmerising I totally missed whatever he said. I was in deep troubles.
‘Why does it have to be so hard to stay mad at him?’
His eyes momentarily stopped on me, his gaze almost burned me. An emotion that I just could not decipher flared up in his dark eyes.
My father, who had no idea of our heated stare, was babbling something. Probably chatting about the increase in rogue’s attacks. I came out of my momentary daze when I heard him mention my name.
“Alpha Mirko, I hope you don’t mind that I brought my daughter with me. I assure you that she is perfectly prepared for this type of meeting.” He stopped for a second, studying my mate.
“Although I hope it’s safe enough for her to join us,” He added with a calculating look.
My mate’s beautiful eyes blazed into mine, and the emotion behind them was so strong that I was forced to look away. He made me weak on my knees. My mouth watered at the sight of his bare muscled chest.
This was a bad idea. Very bad.
“Nobody will lay a finger on her, Alpha Giacomo. I can guarantee that.” He retorted in that sexy rumble and my breath hitched.
From the corner of my eye I noticed Gamma Rolando’s lips twitched.
Weird.
‘Don’t worry Elena. Marco is the companion of his Beta. Nothing will happen; besides, I am with you. Me, plus the guards who escorted us up here.’ My father communicated me through our private mind-link. He thought I was scared...
Oh, dear father! If only you knew what was going on in my head! Definitely not fear...
“I’m just saying that because she told me she was very afraid of coming here.” My father’s words almost made me pass out.
Oh no... He wouldn’t dare-
“She even admitted that she was afraid of you, Alpha Mirko”
