Chapter Chapter Fifteen
"I knew the day I met you at the warehouse." He kneeled down in front of me. His eyes focused on mine.
Then I realized. He was the bouncer at the concert. "If you knew then, why didn't you try to help me escape then?!" I pushed him away.
"I didn't believe it. You are human and over time the bond grew. I trust the mark now." His voice was deep. "When I bit you, that's all I needed."
I touched the scar on the back of my shoulder, "You left that horrible scar!" I scolded.
He sat there on the floor, staring at me like I had two heads. "I can make it go away?" He offered. "Tomorrow." He slowly got back on his feet, "First thing in the morning I will come get you."
"What about this one?" I asked, showing the scar that was left from the Elder.
"Yes, but I'll have to bite over it first." R held my hand and helped me up. I knew it was time to go. R pulled me by my hand to the door, lightly shoving me out the door that led to the balcony. We walked silently down the stairwell and through the halls back to my pod. He left me alone at the door, without a word. It made for a restless night sleep.
After I had tossed and turned all night, I kept my eyes on the clock. I waited until it was time to get up. I was dressed before everyone else, even before the alarm had gone off. I rushed out the doors to wait for R, but he was already standing there. A smile had formed on his face.
"I'm ready." I said, realizing he noticed how eager I was to see him. As promised, he took me to the infirmary.
"Oh, what a surprise!" Doctor Toulouse was already at the door waiting for us. "What happened?" She said in her usually cheerfully voice.
There was no response from R. He drew a long breath, then the doctor looked at me. "Uh, he said something about getting rid of my scar?" I looked at him. He was acting strange.
"Oh..." She was just as confused as I was, "OHHH." Then she looked at R. "Okay, well. Let's get you into a private room for that. Shall we?" She ushered us to a back room. "Just clean up when your done. Condo-" She began. R glared and she quickly shut the door.
"Is there something I need to know?" I asked.
"There's a certain romance to this." He said sadly. He took off his uniform top and utility belt, "I'm going to bite you first so my venom can heal the wrist first and then I'll do the one on your shoulder." He removed the watch on his wrist. "I'm going to need you to take off your shirt for the shoulder." He began to turn around.
"I'm not taking off my shirt." I took a step back.
"Fine. Put this on." He rummaged through the cabinets to find a hospital gown. I took it and put it on once he had turned around.
"Okay, I'm ready." I tapped him on the shoulder. R flinched. He looked at me in a strange and wild manner.
He picked up my wrist delicately, "This will feel like when I bit you. It won't hurt." I watched as he brought my wrist up to his mouth. His teeth protruded from his gums, growing in length. I had never seen a vampire's fangs this close before. I felt a slight sting as his teeth punctured my skin. Suddenly, I could feel his venom flow through my veins, coursing with intense feelings. The melodic hum circulated through my whole body. It was so strong I felt like I was going to fall over and I did. R caught me.
Just stay with me for a little longer. I'm almost done.
R spoke in my head. All I could muster was a simple nod, he held me in his arms as he opened the back of the hospital gown and turned me around. His body pressed against mine. My body was his in that moment.
The touch of his wet lips on my shoulder felt like a sharp zap of electricity through my body, it was so strong that I reached back for support. I grabbed onto R's waist, but that didn't help. His skin was touching mine and my skin was on fire. It made my body crazy, not to feel every inch of his skin next to mine. I couldn't understand what was happening to my body.
"All done. Are you okay?" His mouth released me and his arms let me drift softly back on the bed. I tried to stand up. Something caught my attention and I looked down. Blood was dripping down from my neck.
"Just hold me a little longer." I quivered as I nearly fell into his arms. He had done something to me; changed me. R wrapped his arms around and created a pulse that surged through our bodies. Our blood was pumping as one. "That felt different from the last time."
"Do you feel it now?" He squeezed me a tighter. I felt the gown begin to unravel.
"No." I lied. I felt exposed. I was coming down from my high and my back was bare and open. R released me abruptly, making me keep balance for myself. He scooped up my shirt and handed it to me. He stormed out of the room, forgetting the blood on his lips.
Regardless of the answer I gave, R continued picking me up everyday at my pod. We walked side by side. I sat by his side as he stood watch in the balcony.
"Huh, would ya look at that?" Lee had whipped his head around while escorting me one day. We had passed a female Guard that I hadn't seen before. "She must be new!" He sounded intrigued as he ogled her one more time.
Over time, the new female Guard scared me. She seemed to follow me every where I went. When I cleaned the bathroom stalls, she would pace just outside the bathroom. When I spent time in the infirmary, she would be standing over me. She would watch meticulously as the nurses work. She inspected every little thing that I did.
"Is the meat finished?" The new Guard had asked the nurse. Her coined term for us humans. The nurse nodded and kept quiet. They all seemed afraid of her as well. She pressed hard on my shoulder. "Let's go." She growled and practically dragged me out of the infirmary with her grip still on my shoulder.
"Ow. You don't have to be so rough." I winced at how hard she was gripping me.
"Meat doesn't talk." She snarled in my face and continued to drag me along. "You smell funky. Maybe I should wash you." Threats. She had threatened me before, but this felt more dangerous. "Or maybe I should just taste and see if meat is spoiled..." She looked back at me, her nails digging further into my skin. She flashed her fangs and then, slammed me against the wall. All eyes were adverted to watch me struggle against her grip.
I squirmed again her, fighting to get free. Her strength was overpowering me as she lowered me to her mouth. Her fangs dangling just above my skin as she licked my neck. The all so familiar searing pain was injected into my blood stream as she bore down in my neck. Every vein in my body ached in agony as I could feel her crunch tendon and bone.
"Selena!" Muffled voices had shouted over the sound of my own heartbeat fading. "We don't feed from them." It was Doctor Toulouse. She had to compose herself as not to sounds too concerned. I was dropped. My body hit the ground hard. Like wet sand, I sunk to the floor and folded
"Selena, we don't feed from them in this manner." Doctor Toulouse sounded like a scolding mother. The new Guard had dropped me on the floor instantly, letting me melt into nothing.
"She tastes funny too." Selena shrugged and walked off.
