Chapter Chapter Eleven
The icy door that Thad had barged his way through was carelessly thrown over our heads. It landed down by the shore, miles away from us. Twenty or so Guards spewed out from behind it, all of them with their eyes fixated on their prey.
As the flung themselves past Anton and I, I noticed something different. All of them; their eyes were black and sunken in, their faces grey with no life left in their cheeks. All of them were monsters. They were all vampires.
Anton jumped up and pulled me up over him as a shield. He was shaking as he looked around frantically. One of the Guards had leaped onto of Thad, biting him in the arm. Blood was staining the snow underneath them.
I saw Dee lunge for us from the side, knocking both of us down. Dee had grabbed hold of Anton and tumbled down the rocks, blending in with the storm.
"You are still alive!" A eerie voice echoed over all the screams of agony. I looked back at the door to see that evil monster that ate Mina. "I think I'll have to keep you as my pet." He chimed as he chose a larger rock to sit on. "Look at all this food, just running around." He laughed.
I tried to stand up, but a hand landed on my back and pushed me back down on the frozen ground.
"Now, now. I want to keep you right where I can see you." His laugh was becoming more and more sinister. "What shall we do with you? Pets should be punished for running away." He tapped his foot on the ground. "Ah, I know. Let's test a theory of mine!" He snapped his finger and I could feel the hand that was once holding me down was pulling my shirt apart. My back was exposed to the cold winter.
Nails dug into my arms as they held me down, sharp fangs grazed the back of my shoulder. I stiffened as I knew what that meant. One of the vampires was just seconds away from killing me. I was so cold as it was, but I tried to fight. I kicked back and writhed under the heavy creature that was on top of me.
"Stay still."
A voice hummed in the back of my head, but it didn't stop me from trying to fight back.
"This won't hurt. Just stay still."
The voice was even louder, it almost hurt my head. I felt the teeth puncture the top layer of skin and I screamed out. As the fangs sunk deeper and deeper, I realized there was no intense pain like I anticipated. Instead, there was a warm feeling. A buzzing that engulfed my whole body. It almost made me forget that I was freezing to death in the middle of a snow storm, in pajamas.
"I promise not to hurt you."
The voice in my head was gentle that time. It was soothing as I began to slip into unconsciousness Then, I was out.
I slept for what felt like ages, only to wake up in pure darkness. I tried to readjust my eyes, but nothing helped. I lifted my hands and felt something was covering me.
A Blanket?
I tried to guess why it was so dark, until I found a zipper. I pulled the zipper down to have a bright light shine in my face. It wasn't a blanket at all, it was a plastic bag.
A body bag.
I read the first sign I saw and bolted up from the bag, I was no where familiar at all. This all had to be a mistake. Signs wrapped around the room, posters of muscles and skeletons. I squeezed my arm, just to make sure I was actually alive. I was still warm. There was no way I could possibly be dead.
The door creaks open. A nurse slipped her head in, "You're the girl?" She sounded disinterested. "He chose you?" She snorted and shut the door.
That encounter left me even more confused. I slowly stepped down from the gurney I was on. The floor was ice cold under my feet. The whole room was chilly. I looked down and noticed I was naked.
Where are my clothes!?
Frantically I searched through the drawers for something to cover myself with. Each drawer I tried gave me less and less hope that I would find anything.
A knock came at the door, "Christi, I have some clothes for you." Doctor Toulouse was at the door. "May I come in?"
"Uhhhh..." I tried to stall. She cracked the door open and slid a set of clothes through the crack. "Oh, thank you." Relieved, I took the clothes and slid them on.
It felt amazing to have something other than pajamas on for once. She had given me a pair of jeans with a black shirt and black matching underthings. It made me blush a little that she was that meticulous with picking out my clothes.
"Can I come in now? I think we need to talk." Doctor Toulouse was still at the door.
I slammed the door open, "Ya think?" I stared her down. "Why was I in a body bag?" I felt all the words bubble up from below, "What was that nurse talking about?!" I was shouting loudly.
"Shhhh...You're supposed to be dead." She pushed her way into the room. "Listen, let's just wait till everyone gets here and we can answer all your questions." She looked over her shoulder before shutting the door.
I was furious, "WE?!" I shouted regardless of what she wanted, "Who is WE?!"
A second knock came at the door. Doctor Toulouse allowed entry and the door opened.
Dee and R walked in, followed by a Guard I was familiar with and another I wasn't familiar with at all.
"What is happening?" I glared at every single set of eyes that were in the room. I wanted answers.
