Chapter 18
~Jack’s POV~
Ignoring Devin and Leah’s exchange with the guy on the couch, I tried to reach out to Emily.
It was pointless. I never marked her. There was no way I could get a feeling whether or not she was okay.
Punching the wall had released some of the tension from my body, but I needed to get out of here. I needed to find Emily and bring her back home.
The problem? I had no idea where she was. The guy that took her was familiar to Devin. Of that much I am sure. I’m sure he’ll tell me about it soon, as my mate is gone. As for everyone else in this room? There was nothing they could do for me. The only way they could help, was if they could connect with my precious Em and let her know we are looking for her.
Wait...
There is a way to find her. I looked towards Leah as a plan formed in my mind. I just hope that Devin is willing to go along with it.
“Anyone going to explain to me what the fuck is going on?” the unfamiliar voice cutting through my thoughts.
A growl ripped from my throat. My mate was missing and this guy was only concerned about himself.
Marching towards the boy on the couch, my wolf and I were in perfect accord as we grabbed him by the throat and lifted him inches off the ground.
“I’ll tell you what is going on,” my grip tightened, cutting off any words he would have said. “I came down here to find you threatening my Luna, so I shot you to knock you out. While this was going on, someone came into my mate’s room and stole her from her bed. Now you’re awake and you only seem to care about what happened to you when there are bigger things to worry about.” I dropped him to the floor, pacing away as he gasped for air now that I had released my hold on him.
“My mate is out there, pregnant, blind, and alone. My only concern with you is if you have any idea who those bastards were that attacked to keep us distracted while my mate was taken. If you don’t have the answers then you are useless to me.”
A restraining hand fell upon my shoulder. Turning towards the person who dared touch me right now, I came face to face with my Alpha and best friend. My shoulders slumped in defeat. I knew I wasn’t acting like myself. I am a cop for crying out loud.
I know how to interrogate someone. I know how to get answers that most can’t. But with Emily gone...I was losing myself. Every minute, every hour, she was gone, I was slowly slipping into a strange delirium. Nothing mattered to me now but finding her.
Turning on my heel, I stalked out of the office. I was going to be no use to anyone while in there with the way my thoughts were going. I needed to calm my wolf and my nerves. With that in mind, I headed towards Emily’s room. I would take something of her’s with her scent and keep it close. Hopefully, it will keep the madness at bay and my hope alive.
Everything came crashing upon me at once entering her room. Falling to my knees in her doorway, I couldn’t move. Her scent enveloped me, sending calming waves through me. But it also brought home the fact she was not there to tease me, to ignore me, to hold in my arms.
Curling up on the cold floorboards of my mate’s room, I wept.
I wept for chances lost. I wept for a future that may never be. But most of all I wept with the knowledge that I may not be the one to save my beautiful girl.
~Alexander’s POV~
Sitting on the floor, gasping in much needed air, I rasped, “Who the Hell is his mate and why the Hell is it my fault she is gone?”
I could not see everyone in the room, but I could hear them, as my eyes were closed. They were shuffling around, trying to figure out the best way to answer my question.
‘Her name is Emily, and she is your sister, as am I,’ came the disembodied voice, floating through my walls as if they were nothing more than paper.
Then the words registered, freezing the air I had desperately inhaled.
My sister? No, sisters!
This couldn’t be. I sat shaking my head back and forth, trying to rid my mind of the unwanted words. My sisters were gone. Along with my mother, father, and most of the White Wolf pack.
For the longest time, I had been on my own, hearing stories about how my siblings were out there somewhere and it was my job, my responsibility, to find them. To bring them home.
And here, here I come to save a pack only to find both my sisters and one of them has been taken.
A snort escaped through my nose. This had to be some kind of sick joke. How could the Mother Goddess bring my sisters to me, only to have one of them taken before I could even meet her? What had I done to deserve such a fate?
Then the words of the man who tried to choke the life out of me rang in my ears. This was not about me. I needed to help find her. I needed to get her back. I needed for us to be a family again.
‘Well, at least you are thinking about our sister and no longer about yourself,’ my other sister whispered into my mind.
“Which one are you?” I asked aloud. Not comfortable having a conversation in my mind in a room full of people.
‘I was once called Ainia, but now I am called Leah. Out sister is now known as Emily, and it is crucial we find her.’
“I have so many questions for you, but you are right. We need to find...Emily is it?”
“Yes,” answered my sister’s mate. Her mate! When I envisioned finding my sisters I never thought they would be mated. I thought they would be alone so I could spend time with them before they went off to find their other halves.
With a sigh, I stood from the ground, shrugging off the unwanted thoughts of being alone again once Emily was found.
“So what’s been done to locate her? Do you have any idea who may have taken her?”
Before anyone could answer my questions, there was a rustling at the door to the office. An older were with blonde hair cut close to his head went to the door to see what the commotion was about. A whispered exchange ensued before the older gentleman’s shoulders slumped in defeat. Whatever the news was, it wasn’t good.
A female appeared at his side and wrapped her arms around him. Neither spoke for a while, until the man seemed to collect himself and faced the room.
“That was one of the scouts I sent out to track the intruder’s trail.” A shaky breath escaped him, “He followed it to the edge of our territory and then it disappeared. The bastard must have had a vehicle waiting. There were tire tracks in the dirt and no sign of their scent anywhere.”
“Okay, so we can’t follow their scent. Maybe we can get some information from the Council about the man who took her,” stated Mr. Broody next to me.
My brows furrowed together, “How do you know who took her?”
If they already know who took her, then shouldn’t they know where she is?
“I don’t have time to get into the specifics, but his name is Jax. He is the same bastard that took Leah not too long ago. He helped hold her captive in the cellar of an abandoned house so she could be tortured.” He let out a sigh, “I’m not saying this is what is going to happen to Emily. Leah’s captor was killed before we found her, so we have no way of knowing who wants Emily and why. We need to find out as much as we can about this Jax fellow and see if it leads anywhere.”
I looked at my new found sister in stunned disbelief, “Wait, you were kidnapped too?!” I couldn’t believe my ears. What in the Holy Hell had happened to my siblings while I’ve been looking for them?
Her mate decided to answer for her, “We don’t have time to get into all of that now. We need to get a hold of the Council and see what information we can dig up.”
He walked over to the older gentleman, and they started to converse in whispers as they made their way back over to the desk and the phone situated on top.
‘Don’t worry,’ Leah’s said. ‘We will have plenty of time later to talk and get to know each other.’ I had to look down at her as she was so much shorter than my six foot five frame. ‘But until then, do you know how to use your wolf’s powers yet?’
‘Powers? As in more than one? Wait. Do you have powers? How do I have powers?’
Her chuckle floated through my mind, ‘I think you need to have a long talk with your wolf. Right now, I need to see my mate about something. I’ll talk to you later...brother.’
In a daze, I made my way towards the door. I figure I should find my other sister’s mate and make amends. After all we were going to be family.
As I passed through, a figure leaning against the wall next to me caught my eye.
It was the bastard I tried to strangle earlier. Why he was here, I had no idea. Deciding to leave it be for now, I headed out to track down my sister’s mate.
