Blindsided: Book 2 of the Bound Trilogy

Chapter 16

~Devin’s POV~

Storming out of Emily’s room, I made my way down the stairs and back towards the office. I needed answers and I needed them now!

Walking through the open door, I was greeted with the site of the spy laying the unconscious Alpha of the White Wolves on the couch. With one final grunt, he backed away shaking his head.

“Is there a reason you made him more comfortable?” the question startling the tall blonde before me. “You do remember he tried to kill you, right?”

Spinning around, and shaking his head once more, he answered, “Yeah, well, he and I have a history together. Not the kind he’s thinking of,” he shrugged, “but a history nonetheless.”

Not really caring about this history of theirs, I gestured him to a seat and got to the point, “The Alpha’s daughter was just taken from her room.” I stated looking the man in the eyes for any sign of deceit. “Do you know why that would be?” Folding my arms, I leaned against the desk, waiting for his reply.

Scrubbing his hands through his hair, and leaning back to stare at the ceiling, he looked subdued, but not all that surprised.

“What do you know? By the way, what’s your name? We never did get around to that with all the interruptions we were having.”

He brought his gaze back to mine, a smirk playing on his lips, “My name is Cameron Bennett.” He gestured towards the comatose figure on the couch, “I’m that douche bag’s mate’s brother. Although, he’ll tell you otherwise.” He shrugged, giving his attention back to me, “Part of that whole history together. As for what I know?” another shrug, “I was in the office when my boss got a call from a lone Hunter named Jax. Apparently, this guy was having issues getting into this resort-like pack house. So he called the guys I was assigned to infiltrate. Let me tell you, these guys were hard-core. If things hadn’t worked out the way they did out there, I was going to kill every single one of them myself.

There were things these guys did to packs that made my blood run cold. I tried to help as much as I could without getting caught, but there are still people held in facilities miles from here that need to be released.

If this Jax guy called them, then he was more than likely hired to kidnap the girl and bring her to his current employer. That’s about all I know. I’m sorry I can’t be of more help.”

I scrubbed my hands over my face. I needed to come up with a plan, and fast. When Jack finds out about his mate being the specified target, he was going to go on a rampage. This needed to be handled using our heads, and not our wolves.

It was going to be tough, just thinking of Emily being taken brought back the memories of Leah’s abduction. What was with this guy and going after them? Was he being hired to bring them in? Or was he doing this for his own personal gain? None of this made sense. Why would he need them?

A commotion outside the door shook me from my thoughts. A parade of people walked into the room, all talking at once, all wanting answers.

Emily’s parents were the first to walk in, and they looked as if they aged ten years from the stress of the evening. Then came the twins and the White Wolves’ Beta, all three arguing over what could be done, and who was going to do it. After them came Leah, my bright light in this whole mess of tragedy. Jack was the last to enter, his face was brooding, but at least he was staying calm.

Just then his fist shot out and into the wall next to him. Guess I spoke to soon. “Dammit Jack, there’s no need to damage someone else’s property.” I mildly scolded. “Save the anger for the sick fuck who took Emily. Believe me, you’ll need it.”

Everyone turned their attention towards me at those words. I looked at everyone in the room, still leaning against the desk with my arms crossed, as a groan issued from the couch.

Looks like sleeping beauty is about to wake up, I thought to myself.

Shoving away from the edge of the desk, I made my way over to the form stretched out uncomfortably on the leather couch. Upon closer inspection, the young man seemed to be familiar. I looked towards Leah, and then the picture of Emily on the Alpha’s desk. It was then something my father said to me after Leah was kidnapped rang through my head. ‘They appointed a new Alpha, but he’s not a real Alpha, he’s a protector.’ Oh crap, we knocked out my mate’s brother.

“Ah, Leah, honey, could you come over here for a second?” I asked hesitantly.

Confusion written all over her face, Leah headed in my direction. I gestured for her to look at the man slowly coming around. At first she didn’t seem to understand what I was trying to get across to her, then something flashed through her eyes.

I knew she was talking to her wolf, and figuring out what was going on. It was a little disconcerting to know that my mate was more powerful than any other wolf in existence, but she was mine, and that was all that mattered to me.

A groan brought me out of my reverie. Looking down, I noticed the man’s eyes fluttering open and closed, adjusting to the light in the room. He groaned again and clutched his head. Whatever Jack shot him with must have been powerful to cause a werewolf to feel like he had a hangover. Well, whatever it was, at least he was coming around now.

“Ugh, what happened,” he rasped to no one in particular.

“You were stupid enough to attack someone in front of my mate, and then threaten her, so you were shot with a tranq.” His head rolled towards the sound of my voice, and he tried to give me a baleful look. To bad he couldn’t pull it off, “Don’t worry, you’ve only been out for thirty minutes. You’ll be good as new in no time.”

He didn’t seem to be encouraged by those words as he rolled his head back and gripped the sides of his face. It was then he noticed Leah standing next to me. Slowly, he sat up, with an awed and bewildered expression on his face.

“Mom...” he whispered.

Okay, this kid was just weird. Why would he think Leah was his mom? I mean sure, there had to be a family resemblance, but come on, she was his sister, she didn’t look old enough to be a mom.

Well, she was going to be a mom, but she wasn’t old enough to be his mom. I rubbed my head, trying to figure out this kid’s issues was giving me a headache.

“She’s not your mother,” I growled out. “She’s my mate, so please refrain from referring to her as your mother again.” Okay, so I was upset, sue me.

Leah came out of her trance and shot me a look. I shrugged at her as if to say, ’What, I didn’t do anything.′

Shaking her head, she faced the man on the couch. Closing her eyes, I knew she was going to try to make a connection with the new Alpha of the White Wolves.

I just hope my assumptions are correct. If not, I don’t want to know what this will do to her.

~Emily’s POV~

My captor drove for what must have been hours. My arms and legs had already gone numb, my stomach was growling like crazy, and I had the strangest craving for peanut butter and hot sauce. Let’s just say I was not in the best of moods when we finally made it to where we were going.

The sound of the engine shutting off, doors slamming, and another sliding open, stopped my fixation on my discomfort and brought me back to the present.

Where the Hell were we? And what was going to happen to me and my baby? The gurney I was on was jolted, and I could feel it moving under me. Everything was silent, for a minute I thought I had gone deaf, but I could still hear the sound of the wheels rolling on the ground.

This just got creepier and creepier.

We stopped and someone decided to cut the bindings on my hands and feet. I was still strapped down across my chest and upper arms, and across my thighs. The sudden rush of blood to my hands and feet brought on a horrendous stabbing pain. Thousands of pins and needles attacked my extremities, while I tried not to let on that I was in pain.

There was no telling who was here watching my every move. Soon enough, the pain became too much and I started shifting my hands and feet along the thin mattress I was strapped to.

“Ah, I see out little mother-to-be is awake. So how are you feeling my dear?” an older male voice asked.

Are you kidding me?! This jackass had the nerve to ask me how I am after being strapped down for who knows how long, being kidnapped, not to mention pregnant. This guy was either stupid, or crazy. My vote is for the former.

A hysterical giggle escaped my lips, “Are you joking right now?” I asked between laughs. “I’m pregnant, you kidnap me, tie me up to the point I can no longer feel my fingers and toes, and you have the nerve to ask me how I’m feeling?” More giggles slipped past my lips, “You guys are insane. You know that? INSANE!”

“Well now, that’s no way to talk to the person who just saved you from the big bad wolves now is it?” What is he talking about?

I must have looked confused, as a sigh reached my lips and the older man went on to explain.

“You see dear, the family you were living with was a pack of werewolves.” I almost scoffed at this, really, didn’t he know who I was? “I know it may seem unreal to you, but it is true. Now I know this is probably a painful subject for you, but the night you were attacked, it wasn’t by some random psycho.

No, this particular individual was one of our captives who had escaped. He was a nasty piece of work, and had a penchant for attacking human females, such as yourself. He was what the were community called a rogue.

Now, you don’t have to worry about him anymore, our men took care of him. He will no longer be an issue for anyone.”

Seriously, this guy is insane! He thinks I’m just a regular human who got mixed up with something she didn’t know about? Ha ha, how rich! If only he knew. On the down side, I’ve been taken hostage by a bunch of lunatics. On the up side, the man staring in my nightmares can’t ever hurt me again.

“Now dear, let’s get down to business shall we?”
