Blindsided: Book 2 of the Bound Trilogy

Chapter 15

~Leah’s POV~

Everything that was going on was foreign to me. I had no idea why we were shoved through a door into a space crammed full of people. I had no idea why my mate had kept pacing back and forth in agitation--he blocked our connection. And I had no clue as to what Emily’s dad and some guy were talking about.

What in the world was a spy? What was a council? Why did I have to be here when I felt like falling asleep any moment?

It did not help any with Devin’s hand running up and down my arm. Ever since this pack’s doctor said I was going to have a pup, he has been touching me in one form or another. Not that I minded, but I just wanted to sleep.

According to the doctor, I was only a few days pregnant, but being a werewolf, my pregnancy would progress quickly. I had about four months until it was time for the pup to arrive. Now was another time I regret being locked up my whole life. I did not know how long that was actually going to be.

Devin was trying to teach me things, but it was going slowly. I do not really see the point in learning how to read and write, when all I have to do is enter someone’s mind and learn what I need to know that way. But being able to tell time, how to use the card thing in his wallet--or the paper stuff--that would be useful.

All of that was a moot point at the moment, as I was stuck in a room with people I did not want to be around and was thoroughly confused as to what was going on.

I perked up at the mention of White Wolves when a young man came into the room and introduced himself as their Beta. Then one of the Alpha’s sons appeared and introduced the White Wolves’ Alpha.

There was something familiar about him.

I did not have time to figure it out as he had the spy pinned to the wall, slowly choking the life out of him.

That got me going. Being abused and bullied my whole life, it was hard for me to sit and watch as this man was being attacked in front of me. Without thinking, I jumped up and pulled him from the angry Alpha’s hands, placing myself in his field of vision.

What that would accomplish? I had no idea. Having him start to morph halfway to his wolf? Really, not what I expected.

I sent a smirk in his direction. According to the doctor, I would not be able to shift until after the baby is born, but my wolf will be in control if my--or the baby’s--life is threatened. This boy had no idea who he was messing with.

A quick glance around the room showed shocked, uncertain, and angry faces. This situation needed to be resolved, and resolved now.

Then the boy in front of me spoke, “Mom...” before falling in a heap to the floor. Confused, I looked from him to the people around the room. Everyone held similar expressions of bewilderment. All except one.

Jack was standing in the doorway with something black in his hands pointed at the man laying on the floor before me. Looking down again, I noticed something sticking out his back. What in the world is that?

‘Jack?’ I sent to him.

“Yes Luna?” he said aloud.

‘What did you do?’ my eyes connected with his and he fidgeted a little in the doorway.

Reaching his hand up to rub his neck, he noticed he still had the thing in his hand and quickly shoved it into the back of his pants. Sending an apologetic look around the room he answered, “I just shot him with a tranq.” When no one responded he continued, “He was going to hurt you. I had to do something!”

A silent chuckle escaped me at the site of his discomfort.

‘It is okay,’ I assured him. It was then I noticed, ‘Where is Emily?’

A soft look came across his face when I mentioned her name. It was nice to see they were working things out. “She upstairs resting. It’s been a long day for her and the baby.”

At the mention of baby, my hand landed unconsciously on my stomach. All of a sudden, my head became light, and I felt like I could not move. Voices were shouting around me but I was unable to respond.

Something was wrong. Flashes of Emily in her room flew through my head. What I was seeing made me want to scream in agony. Instead, I sent the images to Jack. ‘Go! NOW!’ I yelled into his mind. I just hope we were not too late.

~Jack’s POV~

Seeing Leah cornered by an angry werewolf brought my protective instincts to the fore. One of the younger pack members was passing by with some of the Hunters’ weapons. Quickly, I grabbed what looked like a tranq gun and aimed it at the man threatening my pack’s Luna. Pulling the trigger, I watched as he fell to the ground in an unconscious heap.

‘Jack?’ Leah’s voice floated through my head.

“Yes Luna?” I said aloud.

‘What did you do?’ her eyes connected with mine and I fidgeted a little in the doorway. Her stare was disconcerting.

Reaching a hand up to rub my neck, I noticed the gun still in my hand and quickly shoved it into the back of my pants. Sending an apologetic look around the room I answered, “I just shot him with a tranq.” When no one responded I continued, “He was going to hurt you. I had to do something!”

‘It is okay,’ she assured me. Then she asked, ‘Where is Emily?’

At the mention of my mate’s name, I could feel my whole demeanor relaxing. “She upstairs resting. It’s been a long day for her and the baby.”

Leah’s hand went to her stomach and her eyes rolled into the back of her head. Devin caught her before she could hit the ground. Everyone in the room was yelling her name, trying to see if she was okay.

Something was wrong. Flashes of Emily in her room flew through my head. What in the world?

‘Go! NOW!’ Leah’s voice yelled into my mind.

Without a second thought, I ran from the office and towards Emily’s room. Were the images flashing through my head before real? Was my mate really in danger?

I hurried my steps, taking the stairs three at a time. Bursting through Emily’s door, I noticed the bed was empty and the balcony doors were thrown open.

No, no, no! This couldn’t be happening! I searched the whole room, but there was no sign of my mate.

The sound of feet pounding up the stairs reached my ears. Without turning from the room, I yelled, “Don’t come in here! Emily’s gone, and I don’t want anyone to disturb the scene!”

Making my way towards her bed, I sniffed the air. I could smell her scent, and if I let it, it would consume my senses. Letting her scent wash through me, I took another breath and smelled something foreign.

A growl ripped through my throat, someone had taken my mate. When I find them, they will regret being born.

Devin stepped closer to the door, “What is it Jack?”

Turning on my heel, I addressed my Alpha, “Someone was in here and took Emily.” Following the scent, I headed towards the balcony doors and out into the chill night. Devin followed and sniffed the air with me.

His whole body stiffened and I could tell his wolf was wanting to take over.

My cop instincts kicked in and I turned towards my Alpha and friend. “What is it? Do you recognize the scent?”

Devin faced me and ground out, “It’s the same man who tried to kill me and took Leah from our home. The bastard is back, but this time I’m not going to let him get away. He’s a dead man. No one messes with my family and gets away with it.” He spun around and headed back into the house. He marched past everyone in Emily’s doorway and disappeared from site.

I looked back out into the night and sent a silent prayer to the Moon Goddess. Please, let Emily and the baby be all right. Please, let us find them before something horrible happens to them. But above all, please, keep them safe.

~Emily’s POV~

I was slowly coming around. My stomach roiled, and I felt like I was going to be sick. To top it all off, a marching band was having a field day in my head.

Groaning, I tried to reach a hand to my aching head. It was then I noticed I was tied up. My wrists and feet were tied with something smooth and unforgiving. I also noticed I was strapped down around my chest and thighs. What the Hell was going on?

“Just relax and enjoy the ride. We’ll be where we need to in a few hours. I would suggest not moving around too much. You’ll just end up hurting yourself.”

At the sound of the unfamiliar voice, everything came rushing back to me. The strange sounds in my room, someone lying on top of me, then the pinch in my arm before everything went away.

Oh man, I’ve been kidnapped! Jack was so going to go ballistic! At the thought of him, I hoped he would realize I was gone quickly, and find me soon. I was scared for me and the baby.

Now that I was awake, and couldn’t move, all I could do was think. I thought about Jack, I thought about my family. I thought about the fact that I now had a sister and a soon to be brother-in-law. But most of all, I thought about the baby growing inside of me.

I was scared of what would become of her. After everything that has happened, I realized that I wanted to keep her and raise her with Jack. I just hope that wherever I am going, she will be okay. I don’t know if I would be able to survive if something happened to her.

Silent tears fell from my eyes, as I prayed for Jack to find us.

Please hurry, I don’t know what’s going to happen to us.
