Chapter 44
William Hawk tugged at Vanessa as well for a response.
Vanessa’s heart seemed to have been struck by something unknown.
It was as if trust and security had suddenly surged into her heart.
A flower bloomed in its wake.
It was delicate yet beautiful.
It was perfect.
It was accepted.
It bloomed in the wind.
“Tll go with Grandpa’s decision, too,” she said.
She knew she was not worthy of William Hawk and had no fantasy.
She would readily agree if William changed his mind and asked for a divorce.
However, his grandfather and mother did not object or say anything nasty.
She was sincerely grateful for that.
“Dad, why don’t we take our leave and let Henry have a good rest?” Madison Hawk said after the decision was made.
She had initially hoped for the two families to have a meal together. She changed her mind when she saw Vanessa’s father was too sick and weak to move around.
It was no big deal. They could eat together later after Henry had recuperated.
Instead, Madison told William to bring Vanessa and Danny to the Hawk residence for a meal this weekend. Everyone could take the opportunity to get to know each other better.
Arthur Hawk smiled politely and said, “Henry, we’ll take our leave. Have a good rest.”
“Okay, okay.” Henry Sanchez wanted to get up, but his body was too weak to move.
Arthur immediately held him up. “Don’t move around. Lie down and rest.”
Henry sighed, lamenting that his body was becoming increasingly useless.
Madison walked up to Vanessa and smiled gently. “Let’s exchange phone numbers and WhatsApp. Vanessa. Tomorrow is Saturday; are you available? We can go shopping.”
Vanessa’s back stiffened. So, whatever would be, would be.
She took a deep breath, took out her cell phone, and exchanged WhatsApp and phone number with Madison,
She would not overthink it. Vanessa was grateful Madison did not say anything nasty in front of her father.
Madison pushed Vanessa’s WhatsApp number to the top. “I’m leaving now. I’ll contact you tomorrow. Take good care of your father and brother,” she smiled and bid farewell.
“All right,” Vanessa replied politely.
William considered taking Vanessa to visit the Highland Villa or Lilyville that night.
But Vanessa was not in the mood and wanted to stay in the hospital to accompany her father.
William knew she was stressed, so he did not force her. He stayed put in the hospital with Vanessa instead.
The next day, Vanessa’s cell phone rang during breakfast.
She saw the caller ID was William’s Mom.
Vanessa almost jumped out of her skin.
She took a deep breath and picked up the phone, trying hard to calm down. “Good morning, Auntie.”“
Vanessa knew she should call her Mom since she was officially married to William, but she feared being scolded.
However, Madison did not care how Vanessa addressed her. She laughed on the other end of the line and said, “Have you had breakfast, Vanessa? If not, I’ll get the driver to pick you up. I know a cafe that serves excellent breakfast.”
“I have breakfast already, Vanessa said immediately.
“Good. Where are you now? I’ll come and get you.”
Chapter 44
“No, you don’t have to do that, Vanessa said.
Madison laughed again and asked, “Are you with William?”
“Mhmm, yes.” Vanessa could not figure out why she was so nervous. She had wanted to face Madison calmly.
“Hand the phone to William,” Madison said.
“Okay.” Vanessa handed the phone to William beside her.
“Mom,” William said.
Madison told him the location to send Vanessa over.
“Okay, no problem, William said readily.
He hung up and gave the cell phone back to Vanessa. “Don’t be nervous. My mother is a gentle soul. Here, eat this,” he said gently as he picked up a pancake for Vanessa.
He knew it was her favorite breakfast.
Tm full,” she said.
“Let’s go. I’ll drive you,” William said.
“All right.” Vanessa nodded.
She consoled herself in silence that it would not matter even if Madison humiliated her; nothing would beat what happened to her three years ago. She had given her all to Jackson Foster back then.
She did not know William Hawk for long before they got married.
Moreover, his family was very thoughtful and did not say anything harsh before her father.
She calmed down and relaxed after thinking it through.
William told the driver to take them to Liberty Building.
It was the most luxurious mall in Lantrie City. All the international brands were present.
When they arrived, Vanessa looked up from the car window and saw Liberty Building. She became calmer instantly.
It would not matter, even if she were humiliated. She would explain everything.
“Vanessa.” Madison got out of a car not far away.
Although she was dressed modestly yesterday, she looked elegantly stylish today.
“Why don’t you keep Mom company while I go to the office?” William asked for Vanessa’s opinion.
He felt that if Vanessa and his mother could develop a relationship, Vanessa would feel more secure surrounded by family.
“All right,” Vanessa replied.
She got out of the car and walked toward Madison.
“Did you not sleep well last night, Vanessa? You have dark circles under your eyes.” Madison held her wrist and asked with
concern.
Vanessa’s body stiffened again..
“You must take good care of yourself in the future, Vanessa,” said Madison.
Vanessa’s heart tightened.
They were practically strangers, yet Madison was concerned like a mother.
“Let’s look around and walk off the breakfast, shall we? We’ll go for a full–body spa treatment later. I’ll get your VIP card. done while we’re at it,” Madison suggested.
Vanessa was flattered. “Auntie, I don’t need it.”
“Let’s go Madison held her arm and walked toward the Liberty Building.
She liked her new daughter–in–law more and more by the minute.
The young lady was shy, reserved, and knew her limits.
She was filial and not greedy.
She was beautiful and compliant.
She was from an ordinary family, yet she had a good temperament; she was a sight for sore eyes.
Vanessa walked into the Liberty Building with Madison.
Chapter 44
The latter took Vanessa straight to the luxury goods department on the 15th floor.
“Let’s start with a bag first. A woman must have all kinds of bags, like handbags for banquets and daily handbags. When you dress casually, you will need a more dainty handbag for lipsticks and such in the summer.” Madison pulled Vanessa into a name–brand shop as she rattled on.
The shop was extensive, with over ten counters and various branded bags.
Madison smiled and said. “We must choose slowly when we buy things to find what we like. Come, let’s take a look around.” “How about these? Do you like any of them?” Madison asked, pointing to some exquisite and trendy handbags. Vanessa had mixed feelings. Was shopping the reason for Madison to bring her here?
When Madison saw that Vanessa kept quiet, she said smilingly. “It doesn’t matter if you don’t like them. There are many other styles. Let’s take another look.”
Her cell phone suddenly rang. Madison said, “Look around while I take the call.”
“Okay.” Vanessa did not wish to eavesdrop on Madison, so she immediately walked to the counter on the other side.
A woman suddenly bumped into her.
Vanessa quickly dodged.
The woman lifted her chin and smiled. “Hey! It’s you, Vanessa. What a coincidence!”
Vanessa’s eyes narrowed when she heard the familiar voice.
It was a small world, after all. One would bump into friends and foes alike
