Chapter 16
CHAPTER 16
“I can smell her!” Cal exclaimed as he tilted his head and rolled his eyes in a brief moment of pleasure at having located her scent, he and his army were just making their way through the woods when he caught a whiff of the very strong essence of magic. “Pay attention,” he shouted out. “I am sure they are awaiting our arrival. Alina is mine, destroy everyone else who may stand in our way!” As he finished saying those words, a battle cry could be heard like a wave coursing through the trees.
~~
We watched as Cal and his followers burst forth through the forest, rushing straight towards us. I can feel the confidence of my group start to wan as we see the vast number of “monsters” emerging from the woods. “No matter how many come towards us , we are stronger in every possible aspect!” I hear Ella shout out trying to encourage everyone not to lose faith in us, making my heart swell with pride.
I take hold of Dominic’s’ strong, firm hand, absorbing his strength as he in turn absorbs mine. To the left of me stands Ella. She takes my left hand into her right hand and we interlock our fingers. El looks into my eyes, offering me the smallest smile before quickly turning her attention to Devon who stands on the other side of her. They take hold of each other’s hands and so it goes as each one of my dear friends joins hands until my father and Natalie clasps their hands together and then James lifts my hand, placing it firmly within his and our circle is complete.
The moment we are all connected with one another, a burst of energy begins to pour forth from us, a swirling array of colors, at first appearing as a smoke like substance. Each soul-pair has their own very unique color and the intense electric hues that flow into each other’s soul bond only seem to heighten the pair standing next to them until our circle blurs into a white-hot blinding light that lights us all from our insides, out! Pure, untouched power begins to crack like static electricity, striking like lightening all around us.
A wind that could only be brought on by a magic like ours begins to stir, becoming progressively stronger by the second as it begins to whip through the graveyard. The sky above starts to rumble with thunder as the battle continues to grow around us as though Mother Nature herself knows what we are trying to accomplish.
I can feel Cal’s cold ominous stare bore into me and I can feel myself wanting to turn so I can face him head on. Clenching my jaw, I maintain my focus, but just barely. If ever there were an entity, I wanted to wipe off this earth, it would be this demonic asshole! I hold my ground as does everyone else until I can feel him practically breathing on my neck. Glancing at Dominic, I nod my head ever so slowly, giving the signal.
Nic and I break our hold, stepping aside ever so slightly and holding my breath, because everything depends on the next few seconds, we watch as what we hoped would happen begins to manifest. Cal is sucked into our vortex that is the center of our circle. A second later, Dominic and I have reunited our hands and the magic that is pouring out of all of us intensifies.
Even though I can hear the battle though muffled as it may be due to the wind, just beyond our circle, my body is yearning to partake. I have not been in a really good fight for a while. Distraction is not an option and I give my full attention to Cal, even offering him a smug smile. He is just now realizing that he is immobile as if held in the air by invisible chains and then we begin our chant, and I watch in satisfaction as his eyes grow wide with fear. Serves you right, you bastard! I think to myself.
Evil shall not be
Thy demon be gone
No longer earth bound
Are you allowed!
The spell is spoken out loud and said until we are shouting the words towards Cal. Power has built up ten-fold and is all being pushed into Cal’s body. Still chanting, we watch as flesh begins to crease, and crack and slivers of light seem to be trying to break free from his being. I know it is wrong but hearing him scream in agony brings pleasure to me.
The force from Cal’s body exploding sends hurricane like wind in every direction of our circle, causing anyone with long hair to whip around violently, clothing tugged so fiercely, it felt like at any second it could be torn from our bodies; and yet, somehow, we managed to hold our ground, staying in place so our circle would not break.
Even though Cal’s exterior had disappeared, his spirit was still held captive within our magic, and we know that to vanquish him fully, we must destroy his ‘soul’ as well.
Soul of death
Be at peace
Haunt this world
No more
You are no
Longer welcome here!
It takes every freaking ounce of strength and magic within each one of us, I can literally feel it being summoned from within my very soul as the chant is shouted out.
Just as I feel myself begin to slip from reality, I hear the faintest of pops come from the center of the circle. At the very edge of my mind I wonder if I am once again being called my death and then darkness consumes me.
*
I can’t really say how long I was out, it could have been weeks, days, hours but I am shaken so hard out of my slumber by someone that I end up shouting out; “for the love of life, please stop shaking me!”, before I’ve even had the chance to open my eyes.
With a groan, I slowly maneuver myself into a sitting position. Taking in my surroundings, I see that we are still in the cemetery so I must not have been out for to awfully long. “Thank the stars!” I hear someone say to the right of me. Glancing past my right shoulder, I see Ella on her knees, tears quietly slipping down her face as she watches me.
I try to grin but think it turned out as more of a grimace as I locked eyes with her for a moment. “What, you didn’t really think I was going to leave you guys again, did you?” Suddenly I am wrapped in the tightest bear hug ever. Before I can look to see who is doing this to me, I hear the deep timber voice of my father speaking.
“I swear to the sky above, from this moment forward I’m locking you up in the house and never letting you leave my sight again. You are no longer allowed to battle evil anymore. I will not allow it! Having you die once was bad enough, but to fear that it was happening again, well…”
Turning into his embrace I say, “I love you too dad. And I promise to never ‘nearly’ die on you again.” A half chuckle, half sob slips past his lips before he releases me from his grip.
Letting go of dad, I can feel a certain someone’s gaze upon me and I look to my left to see Dominic ‘patiently’ waiting his turn to come to me. With my index finger, I motion him to come to me. He yanks me into a standing position but only for a second before scooping me up, cradling me to his chest like a baby. He planted sweet little kisses on my forehead, cheeks, and nose before kissing me delicately on my lips. As he pulls away from me, causing me to pout, I hear him ask; “are you ready to go home?” Nodding my head yes, we all begin our trek back to our vehicles.
