Black Sun Academy: Vampire Hunter Book 3

Chapter 14

CHAPTER 14

I heave a sigh of relief as I approach the double metal doors only to have a moment of panic as I see they are bound by heavy chains. Closing my eyes, I lean my head against the cold metal, can’t anything ever just be easy?Pulling myself together, I place my palms against the chains and focus all of my energy into forcing my powers to a heated level that will essentially melt the links within my grip. Just as I feel the metal weaken, I can hear noise coming from the other side of the doors.

Not quite sure what the commotion is from beyond, I freeze for just a second before I realize that someone is trying to break into the building. I manage to jump aside in the nick of time as the doors scream and screech on their hinges as they explode, flying inward. Once the dust clears, I find myself looking at all of my friends and family. Before I can utter a word though, Nic has scooped me up into his arms and in a near death grip, he twirls me about causing me to laugh before he places me back on my feet and everyone gathers around us. “Don’t ever do that to me again!” Dominic says as he is moves out of the way so Ella and dad can look me over, to make sure I haven’t been injured.

“As lovely as this little reunion is,” I begin; “can we move it to the house?” I look pleadingly towards my dad who in turn chuckles.

“Of course dear! You all heard Ali, let’s get out of here.”

“What do you mean she’s gone?” Cal snarls as he turns piercing ice white eyes toward Joey.

“S-she, she broke free of her bindings and when I tried to stop her, she used her magic to knock me out cold, (no one need know the truth, that Alina had simply punched his lights out). I only came to a few minutes ago and as soon as I realized what had happened, I came straight to you!”

With a frustrated, rumbling growl, Cal shoved Joey out of his way as he went through each room to confirm Joey’s statement. “Unbelievable,” he muttered to himself as he took note that all areas were indeed empty. Turning on his heel, Cal made his way back to where they had taken residence and with a heavy sigh, sat himself down in the only leather black chair in the entire building. “Where is Beth?” He looked around waiting for any of his minions to respond. “Will someone find her and bring her to me?” Cal growled out to his nearest follower. With a quick nod, the non-descript male dashed out of the room.

Dominic holds my hand the entire ride back to my dad’s house. I think he thought that if he were to let go, I would disappear on him again, which causes a smile to tug at the corners of my lips. “You know, you’re going to have to let my hand go when we pull into the driveway. I’m going to need it so I can get out of the Blazer.” He looks down at our intwined fingers with a surprised expression on his face; like he had not even realized he was holding on to me.

Flashing his blue eyes up at me he says sheepishly; “sorry. I am just so happy to have you back. I’m afraid that if I let you go; you’ll have been just a dream and we will have to start our search all over again.” Placing my hands on either side of his face, I pull him in for a quick kiss.

“I love you so much, but you don’t have to worry about me, you know. I can take care of myself,” I add, giving him a wink; “I am a big girl after all.”

Nic gives an exasperated sigh; “you know I know you can take care of yourself. I just don’t want to ever, EVER, lose you again!” This causes an even bigger freaking grin to spread across my face and I plant another kiss on his lips briefly before the car comes to a stop.

As we all file through the front doors, Dom has his arm wrapped around my waist and right before he removes it, he leaned in close to me and whispered in my ear; “I haven’t begun to show you how much I’ve missed you. Just preparing you for later tonight!” With that stated, he pulls away from me, not giving me a chance to respond which causes me to growl in aggravation, especially because my cheeks are flaming red!

Good thing Ella is just on the other side of me because at that exact moment my knees decide wobble. I loop my arm through the crook of hers. With an arched eyebrow, I can tell that she surmised what had been said to me because she can see the very deep shade of red across my cheeks. Giving her an arched eyebrowed look of my own, I say; “don’t say a word.” This of course causes her to laugh loudly at me. “Shh, stop drawing attention to us.” I yank on her arm to quiet her which makes her laugh all the harder at me. “I really hate you sometimes, you know!” I loudly whisper to her.

In between trying to catch her breath, she looks at me with nothing but love in her eyes before saying; “you love me, and you know it!” This causes me to grin because it is true. Next to Dominic and my father, Ella is the most important person in the world to me.

“Alina!” Hearing my dad shout from the kitchen, El and I glance at each other, our eyes wide with curiosity as to why he would be shouting and then we dash towards him.

“Dad? What is it? What’s wrong?” I look around the room, expecting him to be under attack or something to the like. Instead, I see him and Natalie sitting at the kitchen table each with a white ceramic mug in their hands, staring back at me and Ella like we are the crazy ones.

“What in the world, Ali? Why do you look so panicked?” Dad stands from his chair as he asked this, instantly going into protection mode for me.

Spluttering, no words managing to slip pass my lips, I continue to bounce my eyes between the two of them and their calm, collected appearance. “Seriously, dad? You shouted like someone was being murdered or you needed rescued!”

“Oh, sorry dear. I did not know my voice sounded that way. I just wanted to know if you heard anything while you were held captive. Did anyone happen to feel inclined to share their hopes for how the outcome of this story will play out, like every bad guy in every movie ever made does?
