POV
I had a good night's sleep and felt pretty rested. When my blurry eyes finally focused and I saw the time, I woke up quickly. I have never slept in this late. I was wondering why the alarm on my phone didn't go off when I realized that an arm was pulling me into a hard chest. Last night came flashing back quickly, and my face warmed. I don't know why I was so shy, I know that Alexei had seen ever square inch of me last night. But I can't help but feel a little shy now that I am not consumed by passion in the bright light of the morning. "I turned your alarm off. Brenna texted that she was unwell and going to the doctor. So, since you didn't have training this morning, I was trying to let you get some more sleep. I just couldn't t leave you, so Adrik is at the hospital for me," Alexei's voice was deeper in the morning, and it was doing things to me.
Alexei turned me around to face him. He could probably feel that I was uncomfortable. I wanted to avoid looking at him, but my eyes were always drawn to him, no matter what. "Are you not happy that I marked you, love?"
"No, I wanted you to mark me, Alexei. I will mark you, too; I just need to learn how to do it. This is all new to me. I am still a little unsure of everything. I can feel how much you love me. It isn't your love that I doubt. I just don't know if your family will accept me, especially since I'm not a vampire. I know they would, if I had let you change me. Are you sure that they will if I stay a witch? I don't want to cause problems between you and your coven either," I asked him.
I knew we had spoken about me not changing to a vampire between the two of us. But the realization that his coven members might not trust me caused me some worry. Jana hated me and she got someone to fall in line with her, all because she refused to accept me as Alexei's mate. I know that she wanted him because she wanted to lead the coven. I couldn't help but wonder if my being a witch wasn't a larger part of her hatred towards me. That concern was now at the forefront of my mind. If she felt like that, I am sure she might not be the only one. I don't know if I would feel safe living inside the coven. I do want to be with Alexei, but I have concerns about how I am going to be perceived or welcomed by his people.
"Do not worry, Cara. I am going to make sure that you are safe. I know that my people will love and accept you, but I also want some separation from the coven. I know that you would feel safer being near your sister, so I've already spoken to Jaxon about building here. They wanted to expand their land as eighty acres behind their packland have now become available. I am going to help him out by acquiring that land for him. He is giving me a spot of land for us to build our dream home on. I wanted to take you to see my brother Anton's home. It is very safe, like a fortress. He built it like that because he wanted his family to be safe. I want the same thing for our family. So you can tell Anton what you like, and he can design it for you. I just want you to be happy and safe," Alexei told me.
I was stunned at what he was willing to do just to protect me. I didn't anticipate him wanting to build a home outside of his coven. Especially one being built just to ensure my safety, correction, and our family's safety. I couldn't stop myself from leaning forward and kissing him as I wrapped my arms around him. I snuggled into him, thankful that I was given such a wonderful man. I could feel his emotions, and I was absolutely sure of his unwavering affection for me. Now that I am marked, I can feel his emotions. I know for a fact that Alexei would willingly risk his life to save mine.
"You don't have to build me a home, Alexei. I am happy to live where you are now. My training is going well and I am getting to be pretty strong. I can be on guard until I know that I am safe in the coven," I breathed out softly to him.
"I know that I don't have to build you a home. I want to. There is a difference. I want you and our children to always be safe inside our home. I want that space to be a comforting and happy place to raise our children. Do not worry about the cost, my brother and I could not spend all our money over several lifetimes. Now, let's get ready to go, love. I want you to show your mark off to everyone we see," Alexei told me and gave me a light smack on my butt as I hurried to grab a shower.
I didn't anticipate him following me into the bathroom and showering with me. I turned to shut the door, but he held it and entered behind me. As I watched him walk to the door, I asked, "Where are you going?"
"My clothes are in my room next door. I will bring it over here. I need to be by your side, even though it was just for one night. I can't sleep away from you ever again," Alexei replied as he opened the door.
I could hear my mother downstairs speaking to someone. She is going to know the moment she sees my face. I guess the cat is about to be out of the bag. I am sure that when we both didn't come downstairs this morning, she probably suspected as much. I am sure it will be fine, she likes Alexei. It is a little too late now anyway, I am already marked. I already know in my heart that I can't be away from Alexei any more than he can be away from me.
