Beta Zachary Alan By Amina Hazim

Chapter 2

Sarah Williams – POV

The trees zoomed past me as I drove over the speed limit. Mom’s parting words were still ringing in my ears. “I will love you no matter where you are, sweetheart. Don’t forget to call me every single day.” I don’t know if the decision I took right now, was right or wrong, all I know is that I am traveling toward a new beginning in my life.

Ring, ring.

My phone vibrated from the center console, and I reached. out to answer the call, while I kept one eye on the road ahead of me. “Hello Sarah speaking

This book had been added on your bookshelf. “Hello, Miss. Willaims, I have mailed you your acceptance letter that we just received from the Alpha of the White Blood pack. And I wish you all the happiness on behalf of the Silver Moon pack.” the woman on the other end said and I let out a huge sigh of relief because I don’t think what I would have done if my application was rejected.

“Thank you,” I replied, and soon after that, the woman ended the call, and I was back in lonely silence.

The White Blood pack is the largest werewolf pack in the united states. And there are rumors that their land quantity is so big, that the Alpha and beta are running two different packs but in the same region. While the alpha runs the bigger pack, the beta runs the smaller portion.

I pulled over to the side and got down from the car to

stretch my legs, and I also opened the mail that I received, which said to which pack I have to go. After reading the letter a few times, I sighed, I was supposed to stay in the pack that was run by the beta, and I wasn’t thrilled at this arrangement. The pack that the Alpha runs are filled with families and old people, while the pack that the beta runs, largely accommodates warriors, and almost ninety two percent of them are male.

Ring, ring.

I looked down at my screen to see that it was mum. “Hey, mum!” I answered in an overly cheery voice.

“What’s wrong, Sarah?” she asked in a worried voice, and I shook my head.

She always finds out when I am trying to lie to her.

“I got accepted into the White Blood pack, mom,”

“Oh my! That’s great news, sweetheart! But why are you sad about that? You are the person who desperately wanted to go there, right?”

“I did, but I wanted to join the pack that the Alpha was running,” I said with melancholy, the line became silent, but I was able to hear the background noise from the other end.

“Oh, maybe, it is part of their protocol. Perhaps, you have to show them your worth before you get promoted or

something?” she reassured me, and I nervously ran my fingers through my hair.

“That is my problem, mom. You know how much I suck at

combat skills. And, I have heard that the beta of the White Blood pack is a cold-hearted person who doesn’t show mercy to anyone, and he doesn’t really do favors either. I am afraid that I might get kicked out from that pack within a month.” I rumbled

“Darling, calm down, you are a bright girl, and I know that you will learn everything easily. So have some hope. You of all people know how hard it is to get into that pack. And you should be grateful that they even took you in.” mom

consoled me, and I nodded my head even though she wouldn’t be able to see me.

“I guess, you are right, mum. I will give it a try. Thanks for looking out for me.” I mumbled, and she laughed.

“I am your mother, Sarah. I will always look out for you because you are the only reason that I am still holding onto this pathetic life,” she said, my eyes watered, and a teardrop slid down my cheek.

“Once I am in the main pack. I will try my hardest to take you here.” I promised.

“I will be waiting for that, sweetheart. Alright, take care, darling. I have to go now.”

“Take care, mom,” I said before the line went dead, and I went back to my car and left that place.

The scenery around me gradually changed from the highways to a single-lined road that was surrounded by lush. green trees, and a few meters ahead, I saw a signboard that said. “Welcome to Nashville.” I passed by the signboard, and a few miles on the road, I entered a small town that had

splendid architecture, and the entire place was beautiful with the sun setting behind. I reduced my speed and looked out to see if I can spot a werewolf, but sadly no one was there, so I passed the town and drove till I neared another town. This was a few miles away from the first one, but everywhere I looked, I thought I only saw humans, so I decided to stop at a restaurant that I saw and grab some dinner before I go in search of the White Blood pack.

This restaurant was made out of logs and glass which was lit up with orange lights, with fairy lights wrapped around the trees surrounding this place, which gave it a festive vibe. “Hello ma’am, you are new to town?” I looked to my side to be greeted by a nice old lady, who was shorter than me with a pleasant smile on her face, and I discreetly assessed her to see if she was a werewolf. “Darling, I am a born werewolf, if that is what you are trying to find out.” she was blunt and I liked her instantly.

“Oh, thank Go d, I just got accepted into this pack, but I was not able to find where the houses are located.”

“If you pass by this town, you will come across a road to your right, and you go straight inside, and that is where you will start to see the houses.”

“Oh, thank you so much. So, is that where the pack that is run by the beta is?” I asked her, and she gave me an implausible look.

“They have given you a house at the beta’s pack?” she asked me, and I nodded my head. “Oh, dear!” she mumbled, and this made me start to panic from within.
