Chapter 72
Eleanor Amato - POV
I haven't gone to check with the pack doctor yet, but I want to go for my first checkup with Xavier, so I will have to wait till I tell him this good news. “Ellie, shall I book an appointment with the pack doctor?” Xavier asked me for the fourth time, but I shook my head while I concentrated on my mascara.
“I am fine, Xavier. Trust me.” I reassured him, but I saw a doubtful look on his face through the mirror.
“You already threw up twice this morning, and you are telling me that you are fine?” he asked me with an arched eyebrow. I placed the mascara stick on the table and turned around to face him.
“Do I look pale or sickly?” I asked him, but he shook his head. “Then I am fine.” I asserted as I turned around to grab my lipstick.
“At least come and check with the doctor so that I can have peace of mind, Ellie,” he argued, and I knew that he was never going to let this go. Once I was done with my makeup, I turned around to face him.
“If I throw up tomorrow, then we will go and see the doctor, all right?” I asked him, and even though he looked like he didn't want to agree with me, he finally nodded his head. “Okay, I will see you later,” I told him as I grabbed my bag, walked toward him, and placed a kiss on his cheek. Before I could leave, he held my arm and pulled me towards him. “What?”
“Take this,” Xavier said as he placed a credit card in my hand. I looked down at my hand to see that it was his.
“Why are you giving me this?”
“For you to use. And there is no limit, so buy whatever you want,” he told me, but I shook my head, and when I was about to hand it back to him, he glared at me. “Take it, Eleanor. Or I will come with you and make sure that I pay for everything you buy.” he threatened.
“Fine, I will take it,” I said, took the card, and stepped back. “I will see you later,” I said, and he nodded his head. I walked out of the house and made my way to the pack house when I saw Rebecca waiting for me in her car.
“Hello!” she greated me in her cheery voice.
“Hi, have you been waiting here for a long time?” I asked her.
“No, I just came. So shall we go?” she asked me, I nodded my head, and we soon drove away from the pack. All the way to the human town, we kept listening to music and singing to the tune. “Where shall we go first?” she asked me as we rented the busy streets. Just then, my stomach grumbled in hunger, and a shy smile formed on her face. “I think I know where to go,” she said as she parked her car on the curb and got down.
“Do you know a place where we can have Italian pizza?” I asked Rebecca as we wore our sunglasses and started walking down the street.
“Yes, but it is quite expensive, but their pizzas are to die for,” Rebecca said.
“Then let's go there,” I said, and we started walking. The weather was hot today, and I was already starting to sweat.
“That is the place,” Rebecca said after ten minutes, and I looked to my right to see a small shop that was already crowded with people. It had a colorful signboard in the front with the name Ricardo’s Pizza while the smell of the pizza wafted into my nostrils, making my mouth water.
“Are you sure we can get a place inside?” I asked Rebecca, sounding unsure when I saw the crowd.
“I hope so, or we can have a takeaway,” Rebbeca said, and we soon crossed the road and made our way to stand in line. Twenty minutes later, we were finally able to enter the air-conditioned restaurant. A content sigh left my mouth as the cold air touched my hot skin.
“I don't think we can have a table here, Ellie,” Rebbeca said looking around at the crowded place.
“That's all right. Let's get a takeaway.” I told her, and she nodded her head, and we quickly made our way to the cashier. Thirty minutes later, we walked out of the restaurant with two large pizzas while people around us had weird looks.
“Shall we go and eat in the car?” Rebecca asked me, I nodded my head because I didn't plan to eat in this boiling weather.
“This is so good,” Rebecca said with her mouth full and a smile on her face, and this made me frown.
“You are commenting as if you are eating here for the first time.” I asserted. She didn't answer right away, but I saw the smile fade away. When she finally looked me in the eye, I saw something, an emotion that I knew all too well.
“Well, t…this is my first time, Ellie. All these years, I have only heard people comment on how good the food is here, and I have always wanted to try it out, but I never had the money to afford such luxury.” her voice broke at certain points while I clearly heard the pain in it. I placed my hand on hers when she finally looked up at me.
“I know what it feels like, Becca,” I said, even though I never told her my past, a nonchalant smile formed on her face that told me that she gets it. “Where did you live when you were a rogue?” I asked her, curious about her past.
“In the forest. I was only able to afford an apartment six months ago. It was not easy, but I knew that I had to save enough money to rent an apartment.”
“You know my mom used to tell me that whenever you are facing a rough patch in life, don't complain and try to overcome that phase because god has something more beautiful waiting for you.”
“I guess that is true.”
