Chapter 7

Eleanor Amato - POV

My father’s face had gone pale, and his mouth was slightly open for the next couple of moments, he froze in this position before his eyes locked with mine again. “How is that possible?” he asked me, but didn't know what to tell him.

Is he stupid, or was that a rhetorical question?

“I know you must be shocked, but I think now that she is my mate, she will be staying in this pack,” Xavier said in a calm tone, and this time it was my turn to look at him. Well, he never asked me to stay back, and even though I knew that once I found my mate, I might have to remain in his pack, his behavior hurt me.

My father didn't speak for a couple of minutes when I saw Karla walking towards us, and she took her place next to my father. She placed her hand on his shoulder, which made him briefly look at her. “She found her mate, sweetheart. And I think it is best if we leave her here.” well, looks like my father mind linked the situation to her.

He kept staring at Xavier and me for a couple of minutes when he finally nodded his head. “You are right,” he told Karla before he turned around to face us. “We are happy that Eleanor found her mate, so that would mean we will take your leave now.” my father said, and I saw Xavier nod his head.

With a final look my way, Karla and my father walked away, and I saw my entire family leaving the ballroom with Alpha James’ family. “Why didn't your siblings come to bid farewell?” Xavier asked me, and this made me stiffen.

“It…It’s complicated.” was all I managed to say when an Alpha came to speak. The night passed by in a blur, and it was two am in the morning when the last of the guests left the ballroom. I was now seated at one of the chairs, waiting for Xavier to finish his conversation with one of the warriors.

I was busy meddling with my fingers when a masculine voice startled me. I looked up to see that it was Gamma Dante. “Gamma Dante, I am sorry, I didn't see you there,” I said as I got up from my place.

“Oh, please drop all these formalities, Eleanor. Well, we are practically family now, so I think it would only be right if you called me by my first name.” Gamma Dante said, and I nodded my head.

“If you don't mind me asking, what is your name?” the question slipped out of my mouth before I could stop myself, and I saw Gamma Dante’s eyes widen in shock.

“You don't know my name?” he asked me, and I shook my head. I never really bothered with pack politics, and I guess that is backfiring on me now.

“Never mind. I am Marquez. And I hope you already met Alpha Samuel Derek?”

“Yes, I met him went I first saw Xavier,” I answered, and he nodded his head, but then a frown appeared on his face.

“Oh, um, did Xavier tell anything to you?” Marquez asked me.

“We only got time to introduce ourselves. We didn't get to speak a lot.” I said, and he nodded his head but a suspicious look crossed his face. “Is there anything you want to tell me, Marquez?” I asked him, but he abruptly shook his head. And right then, I saw Xavier come and stand next to Marquez. I saw both their eyes glaze, which means that they are talking over the mind link.

From the scowl that appeared on Marquez’s face, I know that it was not a pleasant conversation. “I will see you around, Eleanor.” Marquez quickly said before he stormed out of the ballroom.

“What happened?” I asked Xavier, but he chose to ignore my comment, took my hand in his, instantly making the sparks fly, and started walking out of the ballroom. “Where are we going?” I asked Xavier, but this time, he didn't answer, instead, he dragged me out of the pack house, and we followed a bricked path that led toward the residential area of the pack.

There were only four houses here, or more like mansions, and Xavier dragged me to the second house. Once we reached the house, he left my hand and took his keys, and opened the door, and walked in. The house was simply beautiful. It was a mix of modern and traditional. The moment we entered, there was a huge living room to my right that had a glass wall overlooking the forest and was furnished with black furniture, while the room was done in white and grey.

To the left, there was a flight of stairs that led upstairs, and that was where Xavier went, so I quickly walked up behind him. The upstairs was just as beautiful as the downstairs, and the entire house was done in white, grey, and black theme. I walked further to see a door slightly ajar, and the light was pouring out into the hallway, so that was where I went.

I stood outside the door to see that it was an office, his office. There was a wooden table right next to a glass wall, and there were two large book racks on opposite sides of the room combined with a pearl-white sofa and coffee table in front of his desk. “Come in and close the door, Eleanor,” he instructed, and his voice was void of any emotions while his glance was fixed on some papers that were on his desk.

Something didn't feel right. He was not the charming Xavier who spoke to me a couple of hours ago. This man looked annoyed, and there was some sort of anger in his voice, which didn't sit well with me.

Nevertheless, I closed the door behind me and slowly walked toward his desk. “Take a seat,” he said, and I did as he said.

“You look different,” I mumbled, and that's when his eyes finally looked up at me, this made me cower.
