Beta Mates

She turned at the scuff of a foot and found Adam standing several feet behind her, “My sister will be here in two days” she said. Adams eyes turned hazy as he passed the word to Shane. “It will be a long two days for him” he said. Kara nodded. “Katie is very happy, she has been waiting a long while for her mate too.” He closed the distance between them and took her in his arms. “At least we found each other.”

She let him hold her for a minute enjoying the feeling of being held with tingles shooting all over her body. She looked up at him and said “I need time, I’m not ready, this thing with the other female has me confused and I don’t know how to get past it.” He looked down her and grimaced, “I wish I’d have never touched her, it just causes you pain but I can't change the past.” She also grimaced “yes it does” remembering the rage her wolf caused still makes her temples throb. "There are other issues that I need to think through too."

He looked into her brown eyes and said “What if we take this slow and try dating like the humans do, maybe this will straighten itself out with time.” “If you are willing to wait I agree with you”, she looked in his gorgeous jade eyes “my wolf doesn’t want to deny the claim and wants to give us a chance.” He bent his head and gave her a soft kiss that quickly heated as he swiped his tongue across the inside of her bottom lip. They broke apart both breathing heavily.

“Okay, that’s enough for tonight,” he sighed, “I will walk you to your room and say goodnight.” They walked hand in hand to the pack house and up the steps to the long hallway that led to her room. “If you need anything I’m across the hall three doors down on the left,” he said with a roguish grin. “Thanks” she said dryly, privately thinking if she gets any sleep after that kiss it will be a miracle.

She entered the room which had a queen sized bed with a matching oak dresser and night table. There was a closet door on the right side of the door and on the left side of the room was a door that led to a private bathroom. She had put her bags in the room earlier so she spent some time unpacking and putting her clothes in the drawers and hanging up some blouses, pants and skirts in the closet.

She finally gathered up clean underwear and a nightie and went in the bathroom to shower. After showering and towel drying her hair she brushed her teeth and got ready for bed. As she turned off the overhead light and turned on the bedside lamp she decided to read to calm her mind after the chaotic day. She started to read but couldn’t get into the story. She ended up reading the same paragraph several times before she gave it up. She tossed and turned for hours and her wolf paced in her head. Mia knew her mate was close and wanted to be close to him. She kept repeating he is here and he wants us. He needs us.

She was ready to scream with frustration when a soft knock sounded on the door. Adam spoke softly at the door. “May I come in? My wolf wont let me sleep and I can hear you tossing and turning. If I promise to behave myself can I sleep with you so we both can get some rest?” Kara sighed heavily, “Sure, I’m having the same problem and I am exhausted, I can’t train tomorrow without some rest.”

He entered the room in a pair of sleep shorts and no shirt. She looked at him and her mouth went dry. Why do all the betas have to have bodies of hot male wrestlers she thought wryly. She was having second thoughts about him crawling in bed with her especially without a shirt on. Too late, he was in bed with her and snuggled into her side. He kissed her neck where he would maybe someday put his mark and told her goodnight and promptly fell asleep. She stayed awake a little longer with the gorgeous cut muscular chest snuggled into her back and his arm slung around her. She started yawning and was surprised to be falling asleep.
