Benson

Chapter Benson 289

Chapter 289: Obsession

Bella looked at Yvonne’s weary and troubled face, and she felt a deep, indescribable sadness. She had never been pregnant herself and

didn’t have much experience with such matters, but she knew Yvonne needed a clear direction.

Biting her lip, Bella thought for a moment before speaking, “Why don’t you call Benson? There’s no deep hatred between you two, right? Maybe having a child will change your marriage for the better.”

Bella’s voice was full of hope, trying to give Yvonne some encouragement and confidence. She hoped that perhaps the arrival of the child would bring about a change in Benson, prompting him to cherish their marriage and start anew.

However, Yvonne’s eyes gradually filled with tears, and her voice choked with emotion, “How could it be different?”

Her eyes were full of exhaustion and pain, and the emotions she had buried deep inside now surged out like a flood.

Yes, there was no deep hatred between them, but too much disappointment had already worn away her love for him.

She no longer trusted Benson, nor did she believe there could be at future for them.

Yvonne took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, and continued, “Benson is a very conflicted person. He can help me, but at the same time, he does things I dislike. Whether it’s helping me gain control of the company or solving company issues, I admit he’s charming in his work, and I acknowledge that he respects me. I don’t hate being around him, but he never maintains this behavior for long before reverting to his true self.”

Her voice grew softer, almost to a whisper, “He’s a businessman,

after all Every effort he makes is for a greater return. At least for

now, I just can’t trust him anymore.”

Yvonne sat quietly on the sofa, holding her phone, her emotions in turmoil. The existence of this child seemed to upend all her plans, forcing her to confront this unexpected reality.

She wondered, could a child really change a marriage?

She wasn’t optimistic, but she knew this was something she had to discuss with Benson. After all, Benson was the father, and he had the right to be involved in the decision about the child.

After much consideration, she realized that since Benson was the father, he deserved to know. If he decided he didn’t want the child, she could accept that. She could still choose to have the baby and

raise it on her own.

As for their relationship–since they were no longer married, they would just have to be co–parents.

With this thought in mind, she finally made up her mind to call

Benson.

She dialed his number, her heart racing. The call connected, but it was answered by Benson’s other assistant, Joseph.

Joseph’s tone was polite yet distant, “Mr. Benson is busy. Is there something I can assist you with?”

Yvonne felt a pang of disappointment but tried to keep her voice steady. She replied, “Please ask him to call me back when he’s free. I have something important to discuss with him.”

“Of course, I’ll pass on the message to Mr. Benson right away,” Joseph responded formally, with no trace of personal concern.

Yvonne hung up the phone, her mood growing heavier. She waited until the afternoon but received no return call from Benson.

She knew he wasn’t busy he was deliberately avoiding her call

She understood his reaction after all, she had pushed him away and even used their past as a bargaining chip for some pence of mind Her actions had wounded Benson’s Bride, so ignoring her was a natural response.

Meanwhile, Benson was abroad, completely overwhelmed with work. There were serious issues in the overseas market, and the domestic supply chain had also encountered problems, causing the Australian market to nearly collapse.

The source of the problem was elusive, adding to his frustration and anger. In the meeting room, everyone was desperately trying to find solutions, but the results were disappointing.

This sense of powerlessness only increased his dissatisfaction, and his anger grew towards those he considered “useless.”

After the meeting, Benson felt crushed under the weight of the

pressure.

Just as he was drowning in his frustration, Joseph approached him, his expression slightly solemn. “Mr. Benson, Ms. Yvonne called.

earlier.”

Benson’s brow furrowed deeper, his irritation growing. “Did she say what it was about?”

“She didn’t specify, just asked that you return her call when you have time,” Joseph replied.

Hearing this, Benson felt a surge of annoyance. He was already. overwhelmed and didn’t want to be distracted by other matters.

He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. “Don’t bother with her.”

It had been nearly a month since their last conversation, and they had no contact since. Benson’s fingers drummed absentmindedly on the

desk as his thoughts drifted back to what Yvonne had said that day.

He would never forget the words she had spoken to him in the car.

Tl trade our past if you promise to never appear before me again.”

In that moment, her voice had been cold and resolute. like a sharp blade piercing his heart.

Her words had been so final, as if she intended to sever all ties between them, leaving no room for anything else.

Benson narrowed his eyes slightly, his expression heavy with fatigue. He had once believed he was her support, her salvation.

But now, he had to face a harsh reality–he was nothing more than a tool to her, something she could discard whenever she pleased.

There was a time when, for Olivia’s sake, she had used him without hesitation. And now, for Saul’s sake, she once again saw him as a

pawn.

This realization stirred a deep sense of anger and disappointment

within Benson.

He silently mocked himself, realizing he had never truly understood

Yvonne.

He had thought that after everything they had been through, there was an unbreakable bond between them.

However, her coldness and decisiveness had repeatedly shown him that their relationship had perhaps deteriorated into nothing more

than a transaction.

She could summon him or dismiss him as she wished, while he remained trapped in the past, unable to move on.

“If she doesn’t need me, then I won’t continue to do things that degrade myself.”

Benson muttered to himself, his tone filled with stubbornness and resolve.

He knew deep down that no matter how hard he tried, Yvonne’s heart was no longer with him.

The beauty of their past had long since faded.

He had to accept that their marriage was over, and their feelings for each other were beyond repair.

“Married and divorced.” Benson reflected on the moments they had shared.

He had once believed their marriage was a lifelong commitment, but reality had torn that promise apart.

He remembered the way Yvonne had loved him, the warmth and dependence in her eyes.

But now, all of that was gone, replaced by coldness and distance.

She had once been his guiding light, leading him forward, but now that light had dimmed, leaving only darkness in its wake.

“She loved me but couldn’t have me.
