Chapter Benson 279
Chapter 279: The Web of Conspiracy
Mary felt a pang of doubt as she listened to the man’s words. She knew that
Benson’s marriage had been affected, but she hadn’t realized just how complicated things had become.
Her fingers tapped rhythmically on the table as her thoughts churned, searching for a solution. “Wait for the right opportunity ?” the man suggested, his tone tinged with
resignation.
Mary looked up, a glimmer of uncertainty and hope in her eyes. “You mean there’s still a chance?”
The man’s gaze softened, and he spoke gently, “As long as you stay calm and find the right moment, everything could still change.”
Mary’s anxiety eased slightly, but a sense of unease remained. She knew the current situation was dire, and she had to find a way to turn things around. Her future and reputation hung by a thread, and the only thing she could do was wait and look for that potential turning point.
She adjusted her posture, trying to appear less disheveled, and a determined expression crossed her face. Inwardly, she vowed that no matter the cost, she would reverse the situation and reclaim her position at the forefront.
“I’ll wait,” Mary said firmly, her voice resolute. “I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure things don’t stay this way.”
The man seemed reassured by her words, a hint of relief in his eyes. “That’s good. Remember, stay calm–there will be a turning point.”
Although Benson had explained the situation with Mary online, the public wasn’t entirely convinced. People found it hard to believe that there was nothing personal between them, especially considering Benson’s past efforts to promote Mary’s
career.
Public opinion didn’t settle, and the media’s relentless coverage only added fuel to the fire. Yvonne, as the head of Aura Film, knew that this scandal could impact the upcoming opening of Caesar Plaza. Her face was tense, her eyes filled with irritation and worry.
Sitting in her office chair, Yvonne stared at the computer screen as negative comments continued to flood in. A wave of helplessness washed over her. The PR team was on high alert, ready to handle any sudden influx of negative news.
The Ap
The office was abuzz with tension, everyone on edge, fearing that the bad press might have a fatal impact on the company’s major projects.
As night fell, Benson was working in another city when his phone lit up with a call from Yvonne. He stood in his hotel room, the evening breeze blowing gently through the open window. Outside, the city lights twinkled in the distance. Dressed in a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up, revealing his strong arms, Benson looked tired but determined.
Yvonne picked up the call, remaining silent for a few seconds before speaking.* Benson, you’ve issued a statement, but it hasn’t been very effective.”
Benson’s voice came through the phone, soft yet firm. “I’ll handle this. It won’t affect the opening of Caesar Plaza.”
Yvonne felt a swirl of complex emotions as she listened to his reassurances. She knew she couldn’t afford to let her emotions get in the way. “Your statement had little/impact,” she replied calmly, trying to maintain her composure because she understood that losing control would only worsen the situation.
Benson stood by the window, the soft light from outside casting a gentle glow on him. His voice was sincere, “Do you trust me? I don’t think it’s wrong to pursue you. There’s nothing wrong with openly going after the person you love.”
There was warmth and honesty in his voice, and Yvonne felt a flicker of emotion. She could sense Benson’s sincerity, but the current circumstances made it hard for her to relax.
She sighed softly, unsure of how to respond.
“I know what you care about most right now,” Benson continued, his voice soothing.” No matter what happens, I won’t let these minor issues ruin what you’ve worked so hard for.”
Yvonne felt a bit more at ease, knowing that Benson was right. Still, the challenges they faced left her feeling helpless. She nodded slightly, even though Benson couldn’t see her, and her voice was resolute, “Understood.”
After hanging up the phone, Benson stood in silence, gazing out at the city lights. He reached for the pack of cigarettes on the table, lit one, and took a deep drag, the smoke curling around him.
His thoughts returned to the conversation with Yvonne, and George’s words echoed in his mind as he began considering his next steps.
“Expose Mary’s past,” Benson instructed George hie
George hesitated. While he understood Benson’s plan, he still wanted to offer a word of caution. “If we expose her past, it might stir up more trouble. If your wife is
investigating something and Mary’s past comes to light, won’t her resentment toward you grow even deeper?”
“There’s no time to worry about that now. Get it out there,” Benson’s voice carried an urgency, aware that there was no time left to waste.
George knew it was hard to change Benson’s mind, so he continued to discuss the plan. “Actually, there’s another way–more direct and effective.”
“What way?” Benson’s interest was piqued
“Release your marriage certificate,” George suggested, a clever glint in his eye. “If your marriage is public knowledge, all these issues will disappear. As for Mary, she’ll be completely sidelined.”
“Do you think Yvonne will be happy about that?” Benson asked softly, his gaze turning contemplative. “Won’t she feel like I’m forcing her? Didn’t you say I need to respect her? Won’t this make her feel disrespected?”
George looked at Benson, a bit pleased with himself, and chuckled. “Seems my coaching is paying off.”
Benson shot him a satisfied glance and then nodded. “Alright, let’s go with your plan.”
George smiled, feeling a sense of accomplishment, and quickly got to work on putting the plan into action.
The next morning, a well–known media outlet broke a shocking story photos and details from Mary’s past, showing that she had once worked in a nightclub, were made public. In the photos, Mary was dressed in glamorous nightclub attire, her smile radiant, while the accompanying text described her work environment and role in detail.
The swift and intense media coverage exposed Mary’s past entirely.
As the news spread, it caused a huge stir. Many people began to doubt that Benson could have had any personal involvement with someone with such a questionable background. Mary was dismissed as nothing more than a woman who had been propped up due to some fleeting talent.
This report began to replace the earlier rumors and speculations with cold, hard facts.
